Somerby at St. Vincent's One Nineteen

My husband has Vascular Dementia & this is the 3rd facility he has lived in. So far this place is easy to deal with. The staff work hard to make sure people are safe and needs are met. It is not a “fancy” facility but they are trying to take care of family members that we simply can’t do on our own.

Our experience has been very positive. But I would advise anyone looking for a senior living faculty to do a thorough inspection and interview current residents for an unbiased opinion. That is what we did and I believe that is why we are so satisfied. Plan ahead so sudden decisions don't have to be made.

Just feel like management does not communicate well with staff and residents POA. Still trying to get forms submitted to Long term Care Insurance Provider. They indicate they have requested four times. Lots of turnover.

I am currently a resident at Somerby at St. Vincent's One Nineteen and everything has been just excellent for me at this facility. The staff at this facility are all superb. The cleanliness and friendliness are excellent. The meals, activities and value for cost are great. Due to personal issues, I am not going to be able to stay at this facility. However, this place is an excellent retirement center and I would highly recommend it to others.

I had a wonderful experience with [name removed] and [name removed]. They answered not only all my questions but made me feel right at home from day one and that's mot something I got feom my other tours in the area.

We were very impressed with all the facilities. If our situation has been different, we would be living there now. We plan to try again in the spring.

It's very appropriate for any level of care for your loved one. The staff assists with any extra needs the resident has and they work well with the family.

It’s a great community. It allows all levels of independence, which is what we were looking for, and as my mother’s needs change, we don’t need to go anyplace else. Everyone was very nice and helpful when looking, and the activities are varied. They are always getting new people to come in to talk and do music, there is always something going on.

This is a good community. I would recommend this community for a loved one . The activities at this time are a little limited, however that could be due to covid more than anything. The staff are good to go I just would like for the activity staff to do more and take the residents outside.

We love Somerby. This is the best place for our loved one. She is thriving, more pleasant, and really getting involved more. We are able to take her out anytime, and they have just been wonderful. During Covid, everyone has been struggling, but they are trying to be back to normal with the field trips and other activities. Our loved one is able to have a little garden. She is able to feed the ducks and geese. We would recommend Somerby community.

They've been very friendly, very attentive. If you bring something to their attention, they take notice and are very reactive. They are pretty proactive in their communication with me, especially in memory care. We started out in the assisted living segment. I've been very pleased with the overall friendliness of the staff, from the minute you walk in until the minute you leave. I think the weekend staff is not as strong as the weekly staff. But I would definitely recommend Somerby at St. Vincent's.

I really like the facility quite a bit. when looking I figured this would be the one that she liked the most and fit her needs the best. The units here are very nice and spacious, they have 9 and 10 ft ceilings. The ground floor units are less expensive. They are very well maintained and finished nicely. I would recommend this facility to others looking.

The overall respite care was excellent! However, they have billed for an extra day that was NOT utilized. I did contact the billing office and to-date, I have not received any response. This is my only complaint.

Beautiful very clean facility, Allows for Independent Living to Assisted Living to Monitored Living as needed, Excellent balanced meals provided in a beautiful dining facility. Medical staff on-site with Geriatrics Doctor on-site 1 day/wk., Physical Therapy center on-site, On-site church services by a resident retire minister, Washer/Dryer combinations in every apartment, Stainless Steel appliances in the Kitchen, Residents must press a button in their apartment each morning by 10:00 am notifying security they are okay. If action does not occur, the staff checks on the resident. Clearly the resident’s safety, enjoyment, comfort and wellbeing are a high priority of Somerby. The only con in our opinion, it had the highest lease and community fee of the all the communities we toured in the Birmingham area.

My mom is doing really well. She likes the fact that everybody is welcoming and kind. They had an ambassador who showed her around the community and she has got to see the activities and made friends. She stays active with the activities and the staff are really helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better place, it is unbelievable.

My loved one is still adjusting to living at this community. The kitchen staff I have met have been nice. The food is good. They keep the community clean. They have a beauty salon on site and the lady there is nice. We are trying to help get her involved in some of the activities offered.
