Our family had an in person tour with Beach House Jacksonville and we thought the tour experience was a good one - it had a lot of the same amenities as others we had toured. Ultimately it was just not the place for our loved one
My loved one is currently a resident at Beach House Jacksonville Memory Care and everything is great here, it's a great place. The staff is friendly and competent. The facility is clean. There is a good variety of food. I would definitely recommend this facility to family and friends.

The Beach House Jacksonville was very nice and was our 2nd choice. The location of San Pablo rd won because my mom is a mayo patient and it's more convenient.
After two weeks of our loved one being admitted to Beach House I started the process to get her out. That being said-my sister was assessed by Beach House personnel as to whether she would be a good fit for their facility. Her apartment seemed cleaned. Although one week-end there was no trash service so I had to take the dirty diapers out myself. I got the impression they were short on staff. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I approached them for some problem we were having. I think the Beach House would have been a better fit for an adult who didn't need as much assistance as my sister did. The problems we faced were: my sister didn't not receive an alarm pendant to alert the staff until a few weeks before she was leaving. She had to call the front desk to get assistance. There were times her meds were not given as prescribed. She has COPD and we almost had an emergency situation because of that. I would like to complement the mobile medical staff that treats the patients there. They were always easy to access with issues and gave the family feedback on what actions were taken. My sister would not leave her room to eat in the dining area so her choices of food were limited. Again, my sister needed more assistance in this area than Beach House could provide. My sister never participated in any activities. The director did have the activities person pay a visit to my sister after I requested some motivation to get my sister out of the room. They colored a bit. My sister NEVER left her room in the 6 weeks she resided there. The value of ANY assisted living is OUTRAGEOUS. It is ridiculous to pay 5 times a mortgage payment and not have a personal staff member by your side 24/7. The Beach House charges in line with other assisted living facilities. My sister had no family to watch over her care so she was moved to SC. Even here I feel as if I work at this facility as they seem short staffed and I have to question medications, meals , ect. We looked into private home care which is DOUBLE the price. In our situation there would have been no oversight with family living out of state. Bottom line is-people need to be an advocate for their family members in these situations. Especially because of the money being spent. After the private funds are depleted then the govt starts paying for it.

From our point of view - we think Beach House Jacksonville has been a very positive experience. I think the staff are all angels that are doing their best, they are all so friendly. It is a God send that we were able to find this place and the location is where they lived their whole life so it is perfect. They have plenty of activities provided for the residents, if you want to do something you can and if you do not, you don't have to. I would absolutely recommend the facility to others families.

When we toured with Beach House they were getting ready to do a commercial for the facility so all the upper management was there from other states. There were so many people there any everyone bombarded us and they were way over the top. It was a beautiful place but there was so much going on that it was a turn off for us.
The staff members at Beach House are super friendly but they are having some staffing troubles which is causing certain areas to lack. The quality of care could use some improvement - such as the consistency with showering and changing beds. It is not entirely their fault but its causing some frustration. The activities are horrible, they do not have anything for the residents to do - on the weekends and even during the day. They do not have nurses on the weekends they really only have the med-techs there to give medicine to the residents.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a nice tour but when it got down talking about pricing, the individual we were working with was going back and forth not really be straight forward so it kind of gave us some red flags.
The staff members were fine, we had no problems there and when it came to the care services they did what they could. However the community was not made aware of the severity of our loved ones health condition. They were lied to by another worker who evaluated our loved one. The head nurse told us they would not of accepted our loved one has a patient if they were just truthful about the condition in the first place. The food was good, she did seem to like it. When she needed help eating, they were always very accommodating.

Beach House - there is no harder task than finding the right place for your loved one. Fortuntely we found Mom's place at the Beach House. It is beautiful and all the staff is loving and kind. The care is excellent, gourmet food, and the schedule and focus revolves around the residents. It is impeccably clean & the grounds are beautiful. When moving my Mom to the Beach House the staff put me at ease and made the transition seamless. Beach House has a passion for providing the best memory care. Thank You.

My mother who lived in Beach House Memory Care for eleven months had a very unfortunate experience with this facility. Prior to COVID, I visited daily to make sure she was being cared for. On [date removed] VITAS Hospice confirmed that Mom was not allowed out of bed and was no longer provided meals because “she took too long to eat”. I immediately initiated a change in Hospice facilities and had her evaluated and moved to a Hospice House. My 4’11” Mom weighed 60 lbs, was extremely dehydrated and had extensive gangrene on both feet, bed sores on her backside and her teeth were rotted to the point of falling out. Mom died on [date removed]. Beach House never notified me that Mom was near death or that she was not allowed out of bed, & not being fed, however Executive Director, [name removed]verbally gave me 45 days from [date removed] to move Mom to a nursing home, as Mom could no longer “stand & pivot” and they could no longer care for her. BH staff was unaware that her pressure sores that began in [date removed] had progressed to gangrene. They are also refusing to refund rents paid but not earned, after her death. I could provide further details of incompetence but choose to end my review here.

I was surpriced by the lack of thought that went into this community since it is relatively new. The rooms were small and there were wall units instead of central air with thermostats. It felt more like a motel than a community and I did not think it would be a very good fit for my father.

Since my loved one has moved into this community I have been very disappointed with how the staff has handled his medication. I am concerned about the lack of organization and the failure to distribute medicine at the right timing. Overall this place needs a lot of improvement and direction.

My mother is doing fabulous here at this community. It is truly a wonderful community. The staff is excellent, they have been very helpful and accommodating. She is really getting involved in the community. She participates in many of the activities they offer. The food is great, they have a fabulous menu. I know she is safe and in good hands. They are providing her with great care and I would highly recommend it.

I recommend giving this place at least 30-60 days to rectify some problem areas. They are on their fourth Director of Health Services and a third - temporary person for Community Services. The RNs and LPNs work for short periods and then leave for new opportunities. Communication among staff members and a smooth shift change is almost non-existent. Been open for over 10 months. 100 beds and less than 40 residents. Avoid Memory Care at all costs. Looking for a new place for our family.

They did a good job. There is a lot of paperwork for a short respite stay, but once I figured out how to navigate all of that it was fine. They are real nice. They were nearby, and new, which we really liked. They are able to do just one day, or more. They are pretty laid back, and flexible.

A Place for Mom has scored The Beach House Assisted Living and Memory Care 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
