The staff is very friendly and approachable. I feel I can them with questions and any issues. Also, by having an executive director in place in the past several months, it's been much better in terms of communication and having someone in charge to communicate our concerns. As far as the food goes - They could give more nutritious snacks and less sweet treats.... Read more

Our tour was wonderful, and I wanted my loved one to pick this one. I liked that the room was a little bit bigger, and it wasn’t a high-rise environment. There were just three floors. The people were friendly enough. The virtual tour was good under the circumstances. I would have rather had an in-person tour, but the times and the pandemic just didn’t allow for that.

I have been trying to contact them since November for things that she needs and I cannot get anyone to answer me and these are very important things. The TV's were off for 3 months and they did not fix it, they are not responsive or very slow when they do. Overall, I would not recommend the community.

February 23, 2021Dear Gayle, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about your experience and would like to work with you further to resolve your concerns. Please feel free to contact us at [removed] or call us at [removed] to discuss your concerns in more detail.
It is ok. It is a quasi nursing/ALF. If you can walk, and care for yourself, it is an ok place. Since COVID-19, there are rules in place as they are following CDC guidelines, working with the health department and following corporate guidelines. That is a plus. However, those with dementia have suffered the loss of a hug, a kiss and close contact with loved ones. They are doing their best to accommodate families with window visits, patio visits, etc... however the time is short...15 minutes. I worry for those with dementia because they can’t remember what they have eaten, if they eaten, if they participated in an activity, I& they had a shower or a hair wash, etc... talking to the resident just does not provide the answers you would like to hear. The staff is pretty good but not all are the same. Communication regarding your loved one days does not happen unless you call and ask. Even if you do, you may get an answer or may not. I try not to overwhelm the staff in getting answers. I do know my loved one is not happy being there currently. It is tough to get old.

We chose this community because the staff members, the openness of the facility, as well as the price and location to travel to. The room sizes here are great. The food here is also great, they have a lot of variety. My favorite part about the community has been the activities they provide and the interaction between the staff and residents. I really like during the holidays or season changes they have decorations throughout the facility. I would and have recommended Spring Hills Mount Vernon.

My family's experience with Spring Hills has been nothing short of phenomenal. The caregivers are extremely friendly, there is always something to do and I have met an abundance of great people. I have loved the food while here. This community has left an impact on me and my family that we are forever grateful for.

February 23, 2021Dear Peg, We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Your feedback will help other families looking for care in Alexandria, VA.
My mom was very well taken care of. The staff were just amazing. They were very accommodating to both myself and my mom's needs. The staff were always able to answer all of my questions and concerns that I had. It's really the best place you could possible give your parent to stay. The staff went above and beyond all of the time. I have no regrets and it is certainly worth the money.

May 20, 2020Dear Lisa, Thank you so much for sharing your positive story. We appreciate the time you took so others can learn from your experience.
The facility is very well maintained based on what I've seen of the public areas, restrooms, parking lot, elevators, sample units and some office areas. The variety of apartment floor plans are appealing but, of course, cost more if you want more space. I especially like the polite and friendly staff, attentiveness to medication protocols, the stately decor and even the fact that they use actual fresh table cloths at every sitting and a rather surprising list of menu items that are custom prepared to your liking. They are taking precautions against the COVID threat by curtailing trips to busy public spaces. So, far this place has my vote.

May 20, 2020Thank you so much for taking the time to share your positive experience. We are certain that this will help others looking for care, especially during these uncertain times.
This is the worst place I have ever encountered. Management is horrible, staff are rude, caregivers are lazy. For the amount of money they charge seniors, the level or care should be much better!

February 23, 2021Dear Anonymous, Thank you for leaving us a review. Your feedback is important to us to make positive changes moving forward.
Warm and welcoming property. Residents were moving about the rooms, reading in library, playing piano, talking with staff. Residents talked to me about food and activities. Staff was attentive. Studio units were roomy. Enclosed garden and porch which my mom would enjoy. Walking opportunities. Diverse population. Affordable with a wide array of services.

February 28, 2019Thank you for your positive review and feedback.
We were very happy to find a place where we could keep Mom & Dad together. SpringHills, was able to accommodate both my parents. My mom has early stage Alzheimer's and Dad has some health issues and dementia. The living space was larger than most. My parents are enjoying the facility. They are generally pleased with the food and friendliness of the staff. We are also glad that there is a memory care unit that fortunately isn't needed at this time. Since they both have dementia, they will be able to continue living together if/when they decline.

October 29, 2018Thank you for your kind words and positive feedback! We truly appreciate your support.
Things are going down hill, corners being cut, short staffing and poor food choices. The phone system has been down for months. Not all residents can use cell phones due to health reasons and family members haven't been able to speak to each other for weeks at a time over too many months. Recent experiences are unacceptable.

October 29, 2018Thank you for your feedback. If this has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please contact our Family, Residents, and Associates Concern Line at [removed].
The place looks nice, has a lot of activities, and has variety in their menus - although sometimes something on the menu isn't available. The staff members are friendly but seem overworked. Communication with staff can be frustrating. A few things about the wellness (nursing/meds) care have been a little bit alarming. I believe this place is best for fairly independent people, because care seems minimal at times. However, if you're mobile, "with it" mentally, and can afford a retirement home rather than assisted living, you probably don't need Spring Hills. Unless you're VERY independent (i.e., have a car, have a friend who visits regularly, etc.) you might be bored - or sad - living there. So overall, I'm not sure I'd recommend Spring Hills or not. It has its strengths, and maybe isn't any worse than other AL facilities. It's certainly not perfect, though.

My mother is doing great with her move to this community. I do feel comfortable with her move here. She is safe, and in good hands. They have a good staff, and they are providing her with good care. They do a good job with the cleanliness around the facility. There a nice meals, and offer good activities. The only issue I had was on our moving day the elevator went out, and that made moving day harder than what we thought it would be. Other than that issue everything is working out well, and this is a community I would recommend.

I like this community for the care and more attention for my wife's care. We were not happy that they kept moving her into different rooms and she had lost some personal items for a few weeks. They might want to consider staff to be informed in every area The menu is outstanding and she is pleased with the nice variety. We would recommend this community to other families for care of a loved one.

August 7, 2017Thank you for reviewing us and recommending us to others.
[Removed] was gracious and professional. She spent about an hour talking with us about Dad before beginning the tour. All parts of the facility were fresh and clean. There are only 19 memory care residents, and it appears that everyone gets individualized attention. I like the "flower" system. [Removed] had high praise for the activities coordinator, although we did not meet her. Memory care residents have access to Assisted Living facilities such as the dining room. Overall, we were impressed. I would like to do another tour after a few weeks where I could observe an activity, meet the Activity Coordinator, and have a meal.
