My loved one is currently a resident at Richmond Heights Place and they have been quite good. Tolerant of my loved one's mental shortcomings. He lives there quite comfortably. The facility is kept clean. My loved one, however, is not very good at keeping his room as neat and organized as I'd like....but he does suffer from Cerebral Palsy and is mentally challenged. The staff is friendly and helpful when called upon. My loved one's neighbors are friendly and helpful, also. The food is pretty good and the cafeteria is easily accessible. My loved one will run down for coffee and a snack in the mornings, then pop in for lunch or dinner if or when he is hungry. My loved one spends most of his time happily watching TV, so he does not engage in the activities. As for the value for cost, the place is not inexpensive, running between [fee removed] per month.... I would give Richmond Heights Place a -5 if I could. I would never recommend or refer anyone to Richmond Heights Place. They are horrible all they care about is taking your last dollar and the staff are just warm bodies no engagement at all with the residents. That is why I moved my Aunt.

The staff at Richmond Heights Place seems okay. I wish they would check on my loved one more frequently, like once a week ideally. I don't believe that he comes out of his room with any frequency. I'd like to see him going down to the dining room for breakfast and dinner, at minimum. Otherwise, my loved one seems to have adjusted and seems to be doing fine at Richmond Heights Place.

I would give Richmond Heights Place negative stars if it were an option. I would not recommend or refer anyone to this facility. They went downhill fast and this is the reason we moved my loved one to [facility name removed]. When you start off, they tell you as your love ones condition (dementia) begins to deteriorate they will need to move them to full care. What they don't tell you is that your bill will go up like $[removed] a month. The staff just let the residents sit there, it's just sad for the money you pay.
Friendly staff, but unresponsive and an inability to perform their jobs. Poor quality meals as mostly soft foods with little flavor and never served hot. Always lukewarm or cold. No condiments available. Decent dining room and again, friendly staff serving the food. Very little activities offered. Housekeeping doesn't get done. My mom has been there almost two months and no one has cleaned her room despite her putting her name on the sign-up sheet.

My mom started in Independent last June, and this June was moved to Memory Care. They are raising the rates, but not sure why since the services promised never happen. Independents front door has no lock. It broke this summer and was never fixed so any one can get in. If they are short help, meals are late and their is no one to serve them. As for Memory Care, they tell you they clean the room and provide laundry service, and that is not true. Her room hasn't been cleaned since she moved in. We clean it. We also do her laundry, towels and bedding. No one has ever come to do her laundry. Most of the furniture in the common area could use a good cleaning too.As for the $XXX.XX [rate removed] rate increase come January, they say the staff wages have increased 15-22%, I bet if I ask the staff they haven't gotten a raise like that! So if you think it sounds to good to be true....

They were as good as they could possibly be. My mothers dementia was very rapid with the changes in the last few months and it took my family and the staff by surprise. They assessed her for memory care but she was not there very long. She really needed skilled nursing within about 5 weeks of being here. Overall I would recommend them to others looking. Both my mother and my aunt were happy she was here. She had been here for rehab before and the location was very convenient for our family.

Richmond Heights Place has been really good. My mom loves it. When I go to visit, the staff are very friendly. They're open to suggestions. They keep the facility really neat and clean. The apartments have housekeeping service that comes in and vacuums and things. When she first moved in, there was debris left behind by the movers, and they came in and cleaned it up right away. They are really on top of cleanliness. Overall she likes the food. Here and there they might serve a meal she doesn't like, but that would be the case anywhere. And she's happy with it overall. All things together, I think it's a good value.

It's a small community with round the clock staff that keeps the residents engaged. They offer lots of activities. The facility is very nice, and the living spaces are nice and big, and clean. They put a sticker on the door that gives the date each resident will have housekeeping in their private rooms. My loved one seems to like the food, and that's coming from a picky eater.

I would want other to know that this facility does not provide any linens or things such as soap and diapers, so you will need to provide that for your loved one. They have an outdoor porch area where residents are able to visit with their loved ones even during COVID and they still have bingo and other activities that they are keeping residents busy during the virus. The staff members have been very accommodating to my mothers routine and always call whenever anything happens, they are great at communication. It is always the same staff members who take care of the residents, so I know them and they know their residents very well. Overall, we have had a good experience so far.

Response from Richmond Heights Place
October 2, 2019Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are committed to continuous quality service and care and will share your feedback with our management team.
This was a very different feel from brookdale mentor. Needs maintenance. Peeling paint scuffed walls. Staff not engaging or very welcoming.

Rude, unprofessional staff and nurses. Will never take my parent back there again Admitted for rehab and was disappointed with the way the facility was ran, lazy rude unprofessional nurses and especially the clinical nursing director. Poor managed facility with under skilled nurses and staff. Have no clue in what treatment and care the patients need.

Nursing staff are rude especially the ADCS. She is constantly talking down to family members that approach her or even call to check on their loved ones. The entire nursing staff seem to be in a state of panic and are very disorganized. I truly do not know how they received a 5- star rating.

Hello, we moved my Mom to this facility because she has dimensia but they allowed her to keep her beloved dog. However, after two months we had to move her again. The staff is lazy and not trained to deal with dimensia no matter what they say. The in-house medical support was lame at best. The Executive Director left as we moved Mom. I would never recommend this facility. Find a better facility which is actually prepared to deal with memory care and not just advertise it. Mom's new facility is much better although no dog. She doesn't remember her dog so the best case is do the right thing for your loved one but it is not Brookdale, in any of their facilities!

A very nice facility and one of the residents had nice things to say about the staff, but this was not the right level of care for my mother at this time.

We toured this community for my father. We liked the staff. The community was clean and they have a lot of different buildings for the residents. My father wanted a bigger room than what was available at the time needed. We would recommend this community from what we saw from this nice tour.

This community is very nice and clean and seemed to be good. It was a little older and a little more worn though. I also did not like that there rooms were very small. My mom needed a little more space.

My tour of the Brookdale went very well. The Place was very clean and while I was touring, the residents were playing games and seemed to be having fun. Everyone was very friendly.

A Place for Mom has scored Richmond Heights Place 6.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
