The decision to transition Mom to an assisted living facility was not an easy decision. The family of Quillen came along beside us, held our hands and guided us step by step. Keeping her safe was a huge factor in choosing assisted living but, we also wanted her to thrive in her new environment ! [name removed], [name removed] and [name removed] were so kind and patient.. with me, mom was excited for her new adventure. The staff are definitely called to this kind of service, from asking her what her favorite snacks are to have on hand when she wins at bingo to the comfort they give her when sundowners comes around, it’s made this part of the journey so much easier on us all. When hurricane Helene hit, they lost power, like many of us but worked around the clock to make lemonade out of lemons. I can Tell you without a doubt that Quillen is an extension of our family and we love them more than they will ever know!... Read more

My mom adjust well and the staff s Seems to really care. My mom says the food is hit or miss sometimes it's great someday it's not so great. The biggest issue I think they have their lack of staff or staff turnover but right now everyone's having that issue.

This was a nice community, just too expensive for us.
We chose Quillen Manor because they have a buy in program as far as if her money runs out she can go to medicaid, they accept that which is great. The room sizes at the facility seem to be good. She really enjoys the food that they here. I would recommend to other families.

The staff members would be above five stars, and we are very impressed with the cleanliness of the community. We have heard from other residents that they are very pleased with the food they serve. Sometimes our loved one is a picky eater so she complains, but they are very accommodating to fixing her something special that she will like which we appreciate. Compared to other communities we feel that we got a very good deal.

I would tell people it would be a great place to consider. The community was accommodating with the menu, and getting the food you would want. The food was enjoyed by my loved one. The room was nice and had windows. There was a great space for my loved one.

There seems to be a huge problem with management and communication at Quillen Manor. Yesterday, on April 1, [name removed] (QM's executive director) and [name removed] (QM's director of health and wellness) came to the door threatening my mother with what was essentially an eviction. "We could have you out of here in 24 hours," [name removed] said – though she had just paid April's rent. While [name removed] was relatively respectful and calm, [name removed] was downright nasty, going so far as to accuse my mother of "taking over" her mother's (my grandmother's) apartment. They also told my mother that she needed to be out within the next day or so because someone planned to move into the unit that weekend – something that now seems to have been a lie. Some context: in December, our home burned down due to an electrical fire. Shortly after, my grandmother fell ill with cancer. My mother quit working and began taking care of my grandmother, wanting to spend my grandmother's last months alive by her side. My grandmother passed at the end of February, and because my mother had no home to go to, she spoke with the interim director at the time, [name removed]. [Name removed] assured my mother she could stay "as long as" she needed as long as rent was paid. So that's what she did, planning to be out by the end of March. However, as everyone knows, we are now facing a global pandemic with orders to shut all nonessential businesses down, making moving a slightly more difficult feat. My mother was able to send a check to Quillen Manor for April's rent, which cleared. Despite having lunch delivered to many of the units every weekday (and clearing the checks for rent), [names removed] insisted that they "were not aware" that my mother was there, and when my mother asked how this could be possible, [name removed] said that it was the tenants' "responsibility" to let them know they were there. What? After a couple hours and some calls to corporate, we were told the entire situation was a "horrible mistake." In short, Quillen Manor is apparently experiencing frequent changes in management that have resulted in fragmented communication, careless errors and horribly rude employees. I would not recommend this location.

Nice facility and [name removed] was very helpful. Not for mom as too expensive for shared rooms and out of reach for a single.

Quillen Manor does not have any social activities or social directors. There are no social events. People living in Quillen Manor go there to just sit around waiting to die. The food is not very appetizing. I made my own activities by building a rose garden in front of the facility. I maintained the back yard which was supposed to be a garden area but no staff member did anything out there.

This is the first community I have visited so I don't have anything to compare. However, I found the community clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly. I like the option of villa housing for independent living, but I did not get the feeling there is a lot of contact or support for their care.

We really loved the location of this facility, but were disappointed in the facility on several levels. The prices were very reasonable, but the facility still allows some of the residents to smoke in certain outside common areas at certain times, which is a concern. Another concern was that there seemed to be a lot of "conditionality" of whether a resident could continue to stay, as our contact cited an example of a gentleman with some abrasions/tears on his arms and they couldn't allow him to stay. The shared room which was available was small and could be manageable, but I found it unprofessional that the personality of the resident was discussed just outside the door, between our contact and an aide. The resident would have been the person that my mother would be sharing a room with, but I don't feel that it was appropriate to discuss a resident's personality with people touring a facility! We were also asked, what provisions we could make for my mother's care, if they chose not to accept her, once we moved her down, which led me to respond, "that's the only reason why we're here...to find a place for my mother to live!" The contact focused a lot on the condition of the property and what cosmetic issues she felt need to be resolved, but overall, we are concerned with the happiness and well-being of my mother, and not so much on whether the trim on the screened porch needs to be touched up.

My mother is doing better now here, everything is working out well. We've had a few problems, but they are good at resolving problems. The community looks great, they do keep her room and the facility very well maintained. They keep her room very stocked with supplies. They have been very accommodating. There are many activities offered. She is pleased with the food. Overall everything is working out well. I would recommend this community.

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. They are worth a look, if you're looking into senior living in the area.

A Place for Mom has scored Quillen Manor Assisted Living and Villas 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
