Response from MorningStar at Golden Ridge
October 8, 2024Stuart, we're thrilled to hear that MorningStar is the perfect fit for you! Our community strives to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all residents. Thank you for your kind words and for choosing MorningStar!
Lack of staff to patients in memory care resulted in my father being found on the floor in his room for an unknown amount of time. They sent my nonverbal father to the hospital in an ambulance with no paperwork and no one to go with. The hospital nearly entered him in as a John Doe because of this. The day he was discharged back to memory care he fell again due to lack of care to assist resulting in another hospital stay. Again no paperwork sent with him. This happened a third time and the staff advised ambulance care that my father's nonverbal condition and right side weakness was sudden and onset so he was nearly unnecessarily airlifted to a specialty hospital under suspicion of a stroke. Thankfully I called the hospital before that happened. When we cleared out his room, it was filthy. Shoes were missing. Clothes were missing or not his despite other men's names written on the clothing tags. My father had been urinating in drawers and other inappropriate places due to his dementia and it was being left there. No one brought this to our attention. They advised they cleaned every day. I would go and clean it when visiting my father. My father's toilet handle was broken for weeks. I had to address this with maintenance 4 times before it was fixed. When we would visit my father would be wearing other people's clothes and his nice clothing was missing. When I asked why no paperwork was sent with him the staff told me that the printer was broken. These facilities are supposed to provide families a peace of mind that their loved ones are being cared for properly. This facility did the opposite. Some of the staff were incredibly nice and caring, it seems as if the issue fell from higher up in management. It was a lot of overpromising and under delivering, and I unfortunately fell for the initial sales pitch. Do your research and look up other reviews and official reports/claims made against this place before committing.

Response from MorningStar at Golden Ridge
September 23, 2024Kirsten B., on seeing your review we quickly searched the records at MorningStar at Golden Ridge and don’t see your name listed as a resident’s daughter. Our Executive Director is eager to understand the situation you describe. Would you please directly reach out to Kerri at the community to resolve? We want to repair our reputation in your eyes and settle matters to your family’s satisfaction. Thank you!
I would not recommend them because the workers are fun but management not so. [name removed] actually escaped from the facility and they had no camera footage showing how she got out.

August 16, 2024While we always welcome feedback, we find it difficult to respond without knowing your identity as reviewer. The resident was quickly and safely returned thanks to the prompt and collective efforts of our leaders and the Glendale Police, whose assistance we immediately engaged as is our protocol in such circumstances. She was grateful and happy to be home, sharing smiles and hugs for all.
My father lived in the independent living casita. It was quite expensive when he wasn't taking advantage of the meals (feeding tube) and activities (got too ill to attend). That said, it's a nice place with nice people.

July 23, 2024Hi MD, thank you for sharing your feedback about your father's experience at MorningStar Golden Ridge. We're glad to hear that you found our community to be nice with friendly people and team people. We appreciate your review and are blessed to have been able to serve your father.
[name removed] has gotten out of the facility once and the police had to find her and bring her back. The caretakers are kind but disappointed in the staff. I have to cut nails and give her a shower. Management has been a disappointment. She has fallen a few times ending up in the emergency room. I would not recommend them to anyone.

May 22, 2024Hi Dale, thank you so much for sharing your positive experience us! We're thrilled to hear that the space is meeting your needs and providing the accessibility you require. Your feedback is truly appreciated and we hope you continue to enjoy your time with us.
MorningStar at Golden Ridge is poorly managed, but we have a great casita with an attached garage and the food is mostly good. The employees are stretched thin and over worked, but they mostly get the job done.

April 26, 2024We are pleased that you are enjoying your casita! The Casita Village at MorningStar at Golden Ridge is an excellent option for those looking for an active senior community. Every effort is made to serve with excellence. We are strengthening culinary services with new leadership in the kitchen and dining room. Every department holds the team accountable to meet needs throughout our campus, with leaders working in front-line positions, whenever necessary. We accommodate flexible schedules, building a culture that encourages as it empowers. While we respect your anonymity, Executive Director Kerri would welcome a conversation and the opportunity to adjust her leadership to better serve you. Thank you!
Staff very considerate and helpful. Community health staff very good and ready to help when needed to coordinate with emergency transport when needed.. The only real change to consider after speaking with my in-laws, who are residents at the community would be to broaden the dinner menus. Don’t need fancy things like shrimp and scallop linguine more of the basics. Maybe mix a little more pork and beef dishes. The age group was raised on what we call comfort food.

April 1, 2024Julie, thank you for your positive feedback and valuable suggestions for improvement. We appreciate your kind words about our considerate and helpful team. We will definitely take your feedback into consideration regarding the dinner menus and work on incorporating more comfort food options. Thank you for choosing our community!
The best thing about the facility itself is the open concept at the entry. It is more like a cruise ship with lots of windows - bright and airy. The dining room is open continuously until 630pm and not closed off like other places. It is a very pleasant environment. The only downside is that, like a lot of places, there is a lot of staff turnover and some care givers are better than others. Overall, however, the atmosphere is very positive and the residents seem to get along together.

Everyone is welcoming and kind. We did experience a few speed bumps when my mom first moved in, but those seem to have been resolved. Typically, when I bring an issue to someone's attention, they will address it quickly.

February 22, 2024Thank you so much for your kind review! We are grateful you chose MorningStar and are so honored to serve your mom!
The meals are very good quality and I like that the café is open all day rather than specific hours. They also get to know the residents very well. Like a lot of places, I think they are sometimes understaffed, but overall they are fairly responsive. However, I would encourage all family members to stay very aware of the promised services and make sure they are being delivered. Sometimes they do not get to my mom's needs on a scheduled day.

Response from MorningStar at Golden Ridge
August 30, 2023There is nothing like words of affirmation to spur us on toward even more love and goodness. Thank you for that gift!
Our family had an in person tour with MorningStar Senior Living and we really liked it. It was actually my first choice of the properties we toured at the time, but Mom did not like the open closet/walkway into bathroom. The tour was great, but it was too much for her and she had to keep stopping to rest, giving her the impression she would not be able to maneuver the hallways. Then someone at church told her it was a bad neighborhood, and that was the last straw for her.

June 12, 2023Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are encouraged to redouble our efforts in helping each senior find his or her best life!
I was very grateful for how efficiently we were able to get my mom settled on short notice. The staff has been great. Staff communicated could improve a bit. I do think communication could improve. I usually have to find the nurse etc to find out how things are going. Recently my mom fell again so back to hospital and rehab. We haven't gone back to morning star yet, but now I believe her care will need to be elevated, so we will see how that goes. I did feel like we would have heard from them more during her hospital and rehab stay. I had to let them know how she was doing.

April 19, 2023Thank you for the praises extended. We regret reading of your disappointment in our communication and will strive to redouble our efforts. Thank you!
This place is amazing! My loved one LOVES their new apartment there and raves about the food. Everyone there including staff, residents, and visitors. Have recommended it several times already. Honestly from what I have seen they are doing it all really well. They have lots of activities that they publish to residents and have posted on several spots. The food is another. It is served in a dining area that is operated like a restaurant with nice linens and is ordered from a menu. Nothing is institutional many other places have.

December 19, 2022We live for praises like these…ones that give testimony to our aspiration to serve with distinction for the sake of love. Thank you!
This was a beautiful and newer community. They wanted to place our loved one in memory care immediately and the family didn't fell that this is what our loved one would need. The off campus activities were limited to the number of spaces available in the van.

October 3, 2022Life at MorningStar is an invitation to “more”…more connection, more vibrancy, more love. Thank you for affirming our success in this.
I've already expressed with others how great MorningStar Senior Living at Golden Ridge is! I love their caretakers, they make you feel like you're part of a family. They talk to their patients like they're part of that family too. I would describe their communication as average. It'd be nice if they mailed me the bill earlier in the month, right now I receive it two days before it's due. I realize most of the residents families live in Arizona and I don't. As far as the office staff, I wish they were more responsive and quicker to respond. I've left messages and had to call back the next day because I hadn't heard anything. As for the staff who takes care of them, they're great.
