This was our second experience at Encore and it was just as pleasant as the first. Everyone of the staff was professional, but friendly. The facility was always clean. Food was exceptional. Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists were encouraging, very positive, and constantly pushing to improve performance. The Nursing Aids were kind, prompt, gentle and caring. Extra activities for all residents included seated exercise classes, Parkinson exercises, crafts, bingo, seated yoga, professional entertainment in the lobby, religious services, and even a happy hour every week. Nobody wants to need a rehabilitation facility, but when you do need one, Lorien Encore should be your choice.... Read more

From the management to the food service to the RN’s to the support staff, this is a place to avoid for people you care about. If you want to drop someone off, never visit, get overbilled, see your family experience malnutrition/weight loss, stress, isolation, assistance calls go unanswered, temporary staff being rude and unavailable, then this is your place. For everyone else with a conscience, with realistic funds, with expectations of care, compassion and services that match the exorbitant prices, there are better options almost anywhere. Do not believe the lies you get when you have an initial visit, as the owner (nepotism at its worst, as his father is the ceo) is only about $, not your needs, health, property or happiness. The few staff that are nice are leaving daily, replaced by untrained temps that don’t do their jobs. This perspective is shared by many residents, past and present, but fake reviews fill these sites. Just say no to this place.

Horrible. I regret ever falling for the bs sales pitch. Yes it all looks so pretty but the staff is [inappropriate phrase removed] of the administrator, who cares about nothing but having an easy job and money coming in. He does not care about his staff or the residents. Everyone in contact with my parent complains about him and the way things are run. Food is pathetic and the dining staff offers non-defrosted food and wonders why anyone complains. Aides and nurses don’t help each other and residents suffer by being forgotten, not getting meals or assistance for the bathroom or showers. Turnover is weekly; anyone good at their job leaves. The staff is condescending and obnoxious and treats elderly like children. I think the people that write great reviews are not at Encore often or have relatives not disclosing. After a few months, I am taking my parent out. Anywhere is better than this place, and for the insanely high costs, untrained and uneducated staff, it’s been a waste of money and time.

I would not recommend this facility unless you have time to do things yourself for your loved one, like take them out to eat and get them supplemental food because the meals are inadequate, very small portions and not enough for an adult man. They also don't accommodate dietary needs. Elderly people need choices that don't give them Gerd or aggravate their diverticulitis or hypertension. The assisted-living can be a little challenging in the sense that family members need to initiate, schedule and for the most part transport their loved one to medical appointments.

Lorien bills [business name removed] as a Skilled Nursing Care center and not as a rehabilitation Center. Consequently if you expect [name removed]to pick up any deductibles after Medicare they don't! You will be liable for [cost removed] not paid by Medicare!! What skilled nursing care did my wife get? Well the so-called "Skilled Nurses" most often would just call for an aide to help her get to the toilet as they walked away! As far as the 5 days a week of both Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) she was supposed to get. The sessions were often for far less than the requisite 45 minutes and many week she did not even get such services for more than 4 times,

When visiting my grandmother, the building was beautiful. There was live entertainment for all. And every staff member that passed by smiled and said hello.

I am happy to be in a place that has a Parkinson's support group. I am happy to have access to information and people that I can relate to.

I've been performing music for the residence at Encore Ellicott City for a number of years, and the activities and administrative staff are extremely friendly and passionately hard working. You can tell they love their job and the smiles on the residents faces reflect this!

I toured Lorien Encore and it was a nice facility. However, the room and floor set up felt more hospital like to me than it did Assisted Living. The tour was nice, though.
As a nursing home they are severely understaffed. When your loved one has issues and you bring it to the administration's attention they say it will be addressed, but one day later it is right back to the original issue. Once the issues start adding up and it begins to become highly egregious the administrator will no longer address the issues and he will not take or return calls. To top it all off, our loved one was moved to hospice and when we went to get their belongings they could not find them. When we tried to bring this to the administrators attention, he refused to answer the phone. Never have I ever encountered such an inept individual in an administrative role in my life. For your loved ones sake please avoid this place at all cost.

I was a patient at Encore for several weeks and I don’t think anyone should have a loved one stay here. The night staff consists of two people to service one floor level of a wing (approximately 50 patients). I concur with other comments posted here about the food and medical care.

Aides and nurses object to doing their job. Immobile Patients rarely receive a bed bath (for example, I only had one bed bath during my 27 day stay). Loud fighting goes on in the hallways any time of the day or night (usually involving staff who have disputes),. Patients are frequently left to lie in their own excrement for over two hours after a call button has been activated, staff frequently dispenses medication improperly and many staff members speak abusively to patients (I hear this from the halls or when i am passing by other rooms and I have experienced this personally).

They basically deliver what they claim they would deliver. I think they are pretty up-front with everything. There are no hidden fees or costs that I was unprepared for. As reflected with the ratings I gave, their services have exceeded my expectations. The whole experience has been very pleasant.

Lorien Encore was a nice and newer, more modern facility. They were running a special where they waive some of the move in fees when we were looking. The location was wonderful and very easy to get too off of interstate 97. It was comparable to the facility we ended up going with, the only difference was the price and the other facility had memory care split into two levels.
It is heartbreaking because this used to be a really great place! My mother was there for rehab and AL a few years ago and the staff was so caring and compassionate. The process to get her in AL went smoothly and you can tell they cared. My friends mother was there recently and it was a horrible experience. Breaks my heart because I recommended the place.

My grandmother is a resident at Encore. She has been there throughout the pandemic and we could not be happier with how they have handled everything. They have kept her safe, healthy and happy over the last year. The staff is caring and attentive and responsive any time I have a question. We are very thankful that our loved one is there!

My mom was at this facility and they provided the best care for her. All the staff was extremely knowledgable, friendly and helpful. Although her stay was during the covid pandemic we did not get to enjoy all the amenities associated with the facility. But the facility was always maintained and very clean. The staff did a tremendous job of adhering to all the regulations and policies associated with dealing with the covid requirements. A top-notch facility.

Do not put anyone you love here!!! Do not think they do what they say they can do!! We chose Encore because they said they were certified for Parkinson's patients. The facility did nothing for my husband and in fact he had serious anguish issues being so isolated for such a long period of time. Thank God we were able to Face Time him and witnessed the many mean nurses and care givers who were abusive. They did not realize my husband kept his phone on when they came to deliver any care (not much of it). He showed us bruises on his arms and hands. The care at Encore is subhuman and there is nothing I could do to change a thing. My husband needed thickened liquids and they kept giving him thin liquids. He had to correct them. He had a swallow test done and no matter how many times I called I was not provided with the result. Family members and I were put on hold for 20 minutes or more at a time. They knew why we were calling and would not take our calls. I spoke to the Administrator and he was extremely rude and would not listen to my issues. I am not sure how or why he has a job in public health. He certainly does not care for the residents. I will say the physical therapists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists were good to my husband but that was only minutes in the few days a week they worked with him . Please do not subject to any one you know to this horrible facility.

We chose this community because of the convenience, it was very close to my residence and plus my dad had been here so it was familiar. The room sizes are good, very spacious. She had a one bedroom so you have a separate living area from the bedroom which is nice. My favorite part about this community would be the overall friendliness of the staff members. I would recommend Encore at Turf Valley.

A Place for Mom has scored Lorien Encore 7.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
