August 5, 2024Christine, thank you for your lovely review. We're thrilled to hear your parents are enjoying their time at HeartLands Village at Ellicott City. It's fantastic to know they appreciate the delicious food, friendly team, great neighbors, and plentiful activities!
I would tell others that there is no Sunday dinner meal before movie night. Also- be sure to check the actual activity schedule because a lot of times the advertise activities aren't really offered. I would not recommend them unless they have improved their menu and activity calendar.

Response from Heartlands Senior Living Village at Ellicott City
June 26, 2024I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for sharing your thoughts. On Sundays our Independent Living residents enjoy a giant brunch -- including an always popular bloody mary bar -- rather than a regular dinner meal. Resident feedback on this meal schedule remains very positive. We do apologize when occasionally a scheduled activity does not run as planned, but often these are due to circumstances outside of our control and when they occur the team does its best to cover the time with alternative programming. As I want every resident and family to have a five star experience at HeartLands Village I invite you to contact me personally if you have any questions or concerns -- and invite any family to come pay us a visit!
Senior living at Heartlands Ellicott City is simply the best. The entire campus feels safe whether walking during the day or night. The staff and assistants are all so helpful and friendly. Everyone treats you with respect and sees you as a person. I love that I found this place for my Father and his wife. There are lots of activities for everyone. If you don’t want activities there is movie night or just sit around the grounds outside and enjoy the view. You can even sit by the Koi pond and watch them swim. This is the best place to live if you need assisted living or independent living. The cost is great for all that you receive.

June 10, 2024Thank you, Margo, for your glowing review! We're delighted to hear that you and your family feel safe and respected at HeartLands Village. Our dedicated team strives to create a welcoming environment with diverse activities for all preferences. It's wonderful to know your father and his wife enjoy their time here, whether they are engaged in an activity or simply relaxing by the Koi pond!
Mother loves the outside activities each week since she can no longer drive and explore and keep active outside. She really enjoys how the staff care about her well-being. It is definitely a great deal for the price. She really likes this place over her previous facility.

March 12, 2024You are welcome Ellen! We are honored you call Heartlands Village your home and were touched by your kind words for our entire team and how they care deeply about each and every resident.
I would rate them all as of 5. However my uncle had a little trouble adjusting to leaving a large home with a 2 car garage, so he may have a slightly different take. Although there are activities he doesn't really participate, he has only been there 6 weeks, so maybe as time goes on he'll adjust better.

December 29, 2023Thanks for your 5-star review. We're glad your uncle now calls HeartLands Village at Ellicott City his home. Please encourage him to join in on some of the many programs put on by our Lifestyle 360 team and we will do the same as it is a great way for him to get to know some of the other wonderful people who also call Heartlands home.
My experience with Heartlands has been good but it really depends on what your loved one is looking for. My dad, while older than most residents, is more independent and active and in better healthy than most. The early dinner time is probably his biggest (maybe only?) complaint. The food is a bit bland but that's hard to avoid in a collective setting of this type.

December 18, 2023We are glad to read you've had an excellent experience so far in our community. As our culinary team is always looking for resident feedback we encourage your dad to attend our monthly food committee meeting so they can gather his input directly. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.
After I paid for the property that my mother was living in which has my name as paying on the contract. I have been going through the process to determine if she is to stay living there or not. When walking my mothers dogs, [name removed], who supposedly works for Heartlands, (he did not have a name tag on to identify that he actually works for Heartlands) runs over to me and ask where is my mother, who is in rehab and is my mother staying at Heartlands, I told him she stays here at heartlands but I do not know if she will come back. He then ask am I staying there, I told him sometimes and now until I can make determination on her moving out. He then says you are not on the lease. I ask is this for sure, he says I don’t know boy, I then ask him what did you say, he says is [profanity removed], I step back and say I served honorably in my country, I’m an American too. He then says I served too, that does not work anymore. When I asked to speak to supervisor, he said he is.

December 5, 2023Cory, we take issues like this very seriously. At HeartLands Village at Ellicott City we hold ourselves to the highest standards, and we have a zero tolerance policy regarding discrimination or harassment based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, or any other category protected by applicable law. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will be looking into this matter further.
All of the staff at Heartlands at Ellicott City are wonderful! All of the residents that we talk to report being happy living there. My parents have made a lot of friends. The activities are abundant and their social life has exploded. They even love the food! The walking distance from their apartment to the dining room / activities is the only negative, but so far it is working out and good exercise for them.

November 2, 2023Christine, thanks for your kind words for our wonderful residents and your shout out for our amazing team. It was great to read that your parents are enjoying the social aspects of life here, and nice to see that they absolutely love the food!. We're honored they call HeartLands Village their home and are part of our family!
It is hard to say if we would recommend this community or not. The kicker was when our mother passed we were not notified by Heartlands we heard from Gilchrist hospice. When this was addressed with Heartlands they said there was one digit wrong on the phone number. But they had 3 numbers, mine, my brother's and my wives. One I could understand, 2 maybe, but all three is hard to believe. One other thing is when we make the initial visit we were shown a handicapped room, my mother was not mobile and the handicapped room would work, well we never got a handicapped room even after asking several times. She was also supposed to be given a Lidocaine patch, on for 12 hours, off for 12 hours. The last day the patch had been on for 24 hrs. The nurse was not aware. In hindsight, to do it all over I would have kept my mother in her home. It would have been more costly but she would have had better care and would have been more comfortable.

October 4, 2023David, I am the Executive Director and want to again express our condolences on the loss of your mother. As I mentioned when we talked, unfortunately we did have incorrect contact numbers in our system, so when we were unable to get in touch with you we reached out to Gilchrist Hospice to assist. As a result of this experience we are also working with Gilchrist to ensure that communication between the two of us and families is improved. It was our honor to have cared for your mother during her brief stay, and please let me know if we can be of any further assistance.
If someone is truly independent then Heartlands is fine, I would not recommend subacute- not enough staff, basically a nursing home. When my mom required more assistance I hired a caregiver to have one on one care which was very expensive but gave me peace of mind.

April 4, 2023I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for your feedback. We strive to provide the best care possible for all of our residents throughout our community, and would welcome the opportunity to chat with you about your concerns as we are always looking for feedback in order to continue to improve our services. I look forward to hearing from you.
My loved one says she likes the place. However she wishes the dining room was closer to her room so didn't have so far to travel. Because of the distance she only eats one meal a day at the dining hall. She likes the large room. The other place she stayed had a washing machine and dryer in her room. This place does not. So it is inconvenient to wash clothes.

March 22, 2023We are thrilled to read that your loved one likes life at HeartLands Village at Ellicott City, and appreciate your 5-star review!
It was okay. But since our loved one had a stroke and these were like cottages, it didn't offer as much help as our loved one needed. It was also a long walk to go to breakfast, so we knew it would not work for our loved one.
Response from Heartlands Senior Living Village at Ellicott City
October 19, 2021Thank you for visiting us Sheila. We would be happy to show you and your loved one some other apartment options that are closer to our dining room and other amenities. We would like for you to consider our Assisted Living option which is in the main building at our community. Not only would your loved one’s residence be convenient to the dining room and common areas, there would be the opportunity for additional support services. Our Ageility therapy team also has extensive experience helping individuals maximize their independence after a stroke. We invite you to come back so that we can explore these options with you. W best wishes as you continue to search for senior living options.
Having made one friend in four years at Heartlands, I find the facility to be big-city cold. Before the quarantine, I was part of a warm, friendly, six-member regular dinner group, which ended daily with, "See you tomorrow." I now am at the end of 4 months of devastating isolation, from which one of my daughters rescued me a few days ago. In defense of my people skills, I was a psychiatric RN and a Methodist Minister's wife, unable to break the ice at Heartlands. The place needs a warm country heart.

July 30, 2020I am the Executive Director and would very much like to talk with you when you return. When the COVID-19 crisis started and we suspended meal service in our dining rooms and curtailed many of our activities we understood these restrictions would result in some hardship for residents and their families, but we took these steps to safeguard our entire community. Our team members have been supplementing in-room activities and programming to try to keep all our residents engaged and from feeling isolated, and we're happy to provide assistance with FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, texting and email. Note that we're also making licensed or credentialed counselors available to residents who may especially feel affected by COVID-19. While none of this replaces your regular dinner group we are all looking forward to the time when we are able to dine together again.
I toured this community for my father, and his needs everything went well, and everyone was kind. The community from what I saw was clean, and appeared to be well-kept. The staff I met was friendly. I did find another community that met our needs better, but my tour of this facility was nice.

When we were looking for options for my dad and not knowing exactly what we were going to do we had taken a tour of this community. It was a nice place it appeared clean and well kept. The staff seemed to be friendly at the time. However, my major issue was that they only offered assisted living and not memory care and I knew I was going to need memory care at some point.

We toured the HeartLands Senior Living Village at Elliott City. It was a nice facility and was nicely landscaped. It had a wide open lay out where the dining area was quite a distance for the residents to have to walk to the dining area from their rooms. I thought this might prove difficult for my mom. We chose another community that was a better fit for her needs.

Everything is working out well for my parents with their move to this community. It is a nice community, and I'am satisfied. I do feel they are safe, and in good hands at this community. They are doing well. I would recommend this community, it is working out well for my parents.
