The reason for the 4s was due to Covid. They had a large turnover when the government (taxpayers) started paying people to stay home who were "afraid" to work in the health field. Prior to that, it was all 5s, but it was never quite the same after. They were short handed much of the time. The administration and office staff are super! Most of the CNAs love the residents and their jobs. My mom passed away in April, but I visited frequently while she was there. We picked this community, because of the of the price and it was really close to where I live. Also, they were allowing small pets. They feed you a big line when you go there to view it. After being there a couple weeks, you see through all the smoke and mirrors. They kept blaming the fact that they couldn't find any help. They were very short staffed one night I went there, and the nurse on duty was chatting with one of the girls sitting in the office. didn't look to me like they were out, doing rounds and giving meds out.

Experience was awful, and traumatic. Staff lacks training with dementia. You can't ask a person with dementia anything like would you like to take a shower. Have to say let's get you in the shower, use pleasant but firm voice.Brought meals to her even though I'd emphasized need to walk her to dining hall for meals. I moved her. So disappointing since price and room were good. I would not recommend Jackson Oaks unless it has changed tremendously.

My loved one is a resident at Jackson Oaks Senior Living. There's been a big turnover in staff, so I rated all at a 4 instead of a 5 due to that. Otherwise, I have found the staff at this facility friendly and courteous.

Jackson Oaks Senior Living has people who care. Sometimes it's hard to get in touch with top management. No matter where your family member goes, stay involved.

The caring staff, life stations, activities and engagement of the professionals here are reassuring and a blessing. They even have pet therapy! Even with the burst pipes after the big freeze last month is testament to their “All hands on deck” teamwork while providing great care.

All of the staff was very friendly. My loved one loved the food. She didn't participate in the activities, so I can't rate those. She had bugs in her room, but she also ate her meals in her room. My suggestion for improvement would be better clinical skills (I'm a retired nurse so I pick up on their lack of knowledge), but I realize that's an issue with all facilities.

Once again NO hot water !! It continues , never know if you can take a shower. Nothing changes or improves. It’s cold this morning and I would like to take a shower. Not only affects showers, it affects washing clothes and doing dishes.

Response from Highlands Senior Living Jefferson
November 23, 2022Hi Mary: Thank you for sharing your reviews with us. I apologize that we did not meet/exceed your standard. While we recognize that we aren't always able to prevent such occurrences, we pride ourselves in being immediately reactive to these types of concerns and hope that you found the issue to be resolved rather rapidly. As always, your feedback is most important and we would love to have you attend our resident council meetings for suggested improvements as well (you can find these meeting dates and times on your monthly calendar). In addition, feel free to email questions or concerns to tammy.rumfelt@jacksonoaksseniorliving.com any time! Sincerely, Tammy Rumfelt, Executive Director
Staff go through your rooms when you are not there. I have lost money that I hid. There are a few staff who are WONDERFUL. But others who are lazy and treat you poorly.

October 12, 2022Hi Mary B: Thank you so much for your feedback. Good community, too far from where we wanted to be.
They bring people in to give the residents to give them cognitive test. The staff here seem to know a lot about the industry. There is always someone to answer questions and they are very friendly and cooperative. I would for sure recommend this community over some of the others that I have seen. They are having some maintenance shortages but I think that this is the same for everyone with staff.

This place is absolutely horrible at caring for your loved ones. Once the relatives leave, they treat your family member more like an inmate than a person. They have little to no regard for the physical well-being of the people you entrusted them to care for. This is more of a death camp than a care facility, don’t be fooled by their smiles and false words, they want your money and fail to follow through with what they promise.

We chose Jackson Oaks because of the community, when we visited we noticed that a group of people that we felt my mother would fit in with. I would recommend to others to check it out and see if its what your loved one is looking for.

The staff is extremely friendly. The community has had extreme staffing issues; however, I know this is nationwide. This has caused not having a lot of attention. My loved one didn't feel like they had privacy as the staff wouldn't lock doors or come in unannounced to their room.

The main common area of the community would be a 4 out of 5 stars for cleanliness, but the individual house keeping for our loved ones apartment would be about a 3 out of 5 for cleanliness. However the staff members are all very good, we have yet to meet one that is not friendly towards us. They do a really good job with the activities, they always have plenty going on. The issues is, is that they are all repetitive so it sometimes is hard to keep the residents wanting to go back and keeping them engaged. For us, the value for cost is fairly reasonable.

Our loved one was only there for a couple of weeks and had to serious falls the resulted in them going to the hospital. We did try to give the community the opportunity to get to know our loved one, and for our loved one to adjust to them but it was a terrible experience. The rose wing is their memory care unit, and during our loved ones stay their dementia progressive way to quickly. Our loved one was very physically active and energetic and at the end of two weeks they had lost their mobility. The care that was not shown to our loved one was detrimental. Before our loved one moved in they promised us all the bells and whistles and that they could take care of our loved one, but not one of those promises were met. They do not take care of their memory care patients. Half the time when we visited the med techs and aids were mingling and hanging out with each other and ignoring the needs of their residents, they treat them like dogs. The meals there looked awful, all full of sodium and looked like slop.

Overall the community is a good place for anyone's loved one. They keep the community clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I would recommend this community based on my experience.
