Care services - There have been occasions when I have asked for a wellness check because I couldn't get a hold of the resident on her cell, and it took me calling back to get any news. A land line in the room did not seem to be much of an option two ago. The cost of minimum care beyond residency will be over [fee removed] in January. That is way too high of a cost for someone living independently and just needs a presence, in case of a fall, while they shower completely on their own. The resident pulled the emergency string in her room because her cell phone was not working and she could not walk. It took 30 minutes for someone to arrive. The staff could not have known what the emergency was so 30 minutes is shockingly long to respond. There had been a change in ownership to Grossmont Gardens, and the food service has significantly gone down hill. We are no longer there. It went downhill after it was sold. The food was terrible. Caregivers were over worked. Took 30 minutes to 1 hour for call button response. They let people sit in their own filth. It smelled horrible when you walked in. Two people per room but did not add more staff for added residents

The room carpet gets dirty - could be cleaned more often. Our loved one doesn't like the food, but she doesn't like anything, so I can't really say and she also doesn't participate, so I can't really say. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families, I think it's a very nice community especially for the cost. The staff is always very friendly and communicative with me.

The quality of food is very poor. It's on older facility so sometimes the residents don't have hot water (this has happened twice since February- one time it lasted 10 days). The grounds are nice...lots of plants.

I have a lot to say. More than I can say here. I would NOT recommend this place for: 1. couples that are intent on staying together in the same apartment. They will get separated based on their abilities as they age. 2. Skilled nursing is not actually skilled at all. I definitely would NOT recommend that. 3. It's more expensive. Not only did they charge us more when my mom was moved to skilled, because she was incontinent, but they wanted a separate incontinence program monthly fee. It's more than a la cart. It's double charging in my opinion. 4. Constantly losing all my mom's stuff and clothes. We got so fed up with the rotating workers and lack of personal care. 5. Do NOT tell someone to live here if they have Kaiser. Kaiser will not be allowed in to provide services to residents. And the management does not care.

I like that it gave my friend her freedom back. It gave her a way to live on her own with the help she needs. She has friends, a community, and a place to call home. Based on the experience we have had so far, we have already recommended this community to others and will continue to recommend

This facility has many levels of care. Management changed hands a year or so ago, but we didn't notice a huge upheaval. It all seemed to go smoothly. We have been pleased with our Mom's care. The rooms (ours is a single/no kitchenette) are nicely sized. Plenty of room for a bed, chair, dresser, bedside table, TV stand, bookshelves, etc. She has a balcony (she's on the second floor) but all rooms have a small patio/balcony. She has a frig in her room and room for a microwave. She is even able to do her own laundry, if she wants, in their community laundry rooms. Lovely dining room, pool, the grounds are well kept with lots of walkways for strolling. A library, community room and lots of activities. The only thing they are having an issue with is getting drivers for the weekly "bus tours" that used to take place. We are hopeful those come back soon.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have made the transition for my sister smooth and she is adjusted well to her new environment. They respond quickly to emails and do all that they can to try to include my sister and they meet her where she is. What I mean is they want to include her but they don't force her

I love the grounds! I do have a wonderful caregiver Monday thru Friday in the AM. They have one caregiver who is not nice at all. She's very intimidating.

I don't require medical care. I'm home-bound in my apt so I don't see the grounds or activities. Everyone I do see are very nice. Still having problems getting 1 meal a day delivered to me. ( after 18 months). Lots of staff turnover. But overall I'm happy here.

My mom was in Grossmont Gardens for a month until the house renovations were completed, and she's been home doing well, since leaving Grossmont Gardens a year ago. Friendly staff; available for questions & comments; clean facilities including spacious room, elevator, dining room.
Lower cost for value. Responsive when called or questioned. Food is unappealing to look at. Very little color in the dishes. One dinner cauliflower, chicken with a sauce (same color as cauliflower), and I think mashed potatoes? I remember thinking this whole dish is off-white. My Father in Law hates the food and asks for a hamburger everyday, which they supply, but probably not so good for him.

So far I rate them all a 5. We are having a good experience. It is easy to come and go. I can go straight to her apartment with out going through the office. It makes it a lot easier. Apartments are a good size for her oxygen. She has everything she needs in her room.

As this is my brother's first experience at an assisted living there us no comparison. Plus he's been in the hospital or a nursing facility the majority of the time

A very competent and well run business is Grossmont Gardens. We checked out this assisted living home for our parents and were very impressed with the staff's professionalism and knowledge. The facilities are also quite clean, and the food is both varied and delicious. They were able to provide us detailed responses to all of the queries my family had. They are always kind, never irritable, and take care of all of our problems! Despite the fact that they were very content living at [removed], we consider ourselves fortunate to have found this house and that our parents appreciate it. That is all that matters.

Our family had an in person tour with Grossmont Gardens and it was nice. Nice area as well. Somewhat expensive for my sisters budget. But I did negotiate a lower price but then [community name removed] called and said they had an opening and my sister opted for that. But it was a nice place, nice rooms and friendly staff.
My family and loved one had a good experience with the community. The staff was caring. Everyone seemed to be friendly. We would suggest you check in with the staff often to make sure things are going well for your loved one. Overall, this is a community you should check out to see if it would be a good community for your loved one.

A Place for Mom has scored Grossmont Gardens 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
