Worth considering for your loved one.

The staff was generally pretty good. They know their patients and are good at engaging them. [name removed] did not like the food, but that's most likely due to low salt. She was so far gone at that point, I'm not sure she would have liked anything. She was only there 11 weeks before she died and 3 of them were in the hospital. Their cleaning staff was not very good, but in all fairness, [name removed] was a slob and had 2 cats she couldn't care for. I think the staff was kind of shocked and sad when she died.... Read more

Greatwood Senior Livestyle has really deteriorated over the last year or so. The building was built in 2000-2001...and updates have been minimal. The carpet in the common areas is worn and stained, water leaks both inside and out, mold and mildew throughout ventilation, lack of proper maintenance, and sadly, the food now served is not nutritionally balanced. In fact, the food is hardly edible. The residents have complained about both the service and the meals but are constantly given excuses such as menu items being restricted by Senior Livestyle - if this is part of a "family-owned" community, I would hate to be family. As rental rates rise each year, the expectations should also. The rates do not match the poor quality of food and the lack of proper building maintenance. Please explore the many other newer communities in the Richmond and Sugar Land area before you decide...it will be well worth it.

September 17, 2015

We are very disappointed to learn about your dissatisfaction with our community. Our maintenance and food services departments have completed an internal audit of issues to be addressed for the satisfaction, comfort and safety of our residents and visitors. You will be pleased to learn that we are now in the process of renovating and upgrading many of our common areas in the community and the outside drainage issues. We have also recently changed our daily menu choices offered, which are all reviewed and approved by a licensed dietician. It is our top priority to deliver the highest quality of services and care to our residents! I would be happy to talk with you in more detail about your concerns. We welcome any additional insight into how our management team can better serve the residents and their families. I can be reached at [removed]. Lesha Vaccaro, Executive Director.

It is a pretty place. It is also very welcoming to everyone. Everyone smiles, speaks and really cares about each other. I visited 17 places. When I walked into Greatwood, I knew instantly I was HOME.

Upscale, but a little impersonal.

This is one of the places we toured when we were looking around. They were a little more upscale than some of the other places we were looking at. I just felt like it was a little impersonal, they were friendly, just impersonal.

It's clean. The staff is excellent there.

It's clean. The staff is excellent there. My mother in law is not taking advantage of the value. There are lots of opportunities to participate and join in. My father in law loves it, he loves the food and, the people are happy there, he enjoys being out among everyone. We really liked the location.

Nice looking place!

We toured this community when we were looking into senior living options for a loved one. This was a nice looking place! It was clean and well kept, and the staff all seemed very friendly. From what I saw during the tour the residents appeared to be very active and social.

Nice staff, just didn't work

When I came and visited, I had no problems with this place. Aside from the day to day wear and tear, it was clean. The staff were all very friendly, and I enjoyed working with Melanie. This just didn't work out for my loved ones. They felt boxed in by the small 1 bed/1 bath unit. The food was the biggest complaint. I tried it and thought it was alright, but the residents say that it is all around not good. Also, my loved ones never got involved with the activities, so that could have possibly helped their transition. Overall, it didn't work, but everybody is sweet and nice!

Response from Greatwood at Sugar Land

March 26, 2014

My name is Erica Willis and I am the Executive Director of Greatwood at Sugar Land. I would first, like to thank you for the feedback. We agree that Melanie does a wonderful job in assisting prospective residents and their families. I am sorry the apartment that was selected ultimately did not have the space desired. In addition to the 1-bedroom apartment we also have a more spacious 2-bedroom floor plan available. Our restaurant offers 3 freshly prepared meals per day with a variety of options to choose from including daily specials. The meals served in our restaurant are driven by the feedback we get from our residents on the food committee, chef chat meetings and resident council meetings. We welcome and encourage our residents to participate in these forums in order to provide honest and direct feedback. I agree with you that getting involved in programs such as Brain Health University, a Fitness Class, Book Club or even joining a committee or participating in any one of our many volunteer opportunities may have made your parents transition from home to Greatwood a better experience. We do appreciate that you trusted us in serving your parents, albeit for a brief time. I want you to know we will keep an open door and we would be happy to welcome them back to Greatwood at Sugar Land if anything changes in the future.

Melanie was very professional and highly effective at communicating the offerings of the community. We appreciated her openness to the 'Day Stay' concept which could fulfill a more immediate need. The facility was very nice and we appreciated the options of the combination of independent living with added assisted living as an option especially in the care of a couple coming in with different needs. This probably is closest to meeting our immediate needs. The two bedroom apartment (royal oak) that she showed us was by far the most 'homey' of all of the rooms that we saw and would provide the best transition option if they moved today. I liked the indoor carpeted hallways. The facility was very clean and appealing in every way and the festive decorations were a fun touch we didn't see at other places. We didn't see many residents, again due to the time of the day of the tour. Of the residents we saw, Melanie greeted two by name and they responded positively to her as well. We would definitely keep this community on the list of options for the future care of our parents.

Happy with Greatwood

We've been very happy with Greatwood. It's the only facility that we've had my in-laws in so I don't have anything to compare it to but I would say that the value has been very good. My father-in-law is refusing to get involved in any of the activities. We've looking into them for him but he's not interested. She has dementia and we're probably going to have to look at another facility before long because we've had to add night time home health because she needs more supervision.

At Home Again

Two years after my wife passed away, the prodding by my children and my self realization that living alone in my home with all the related upkeep and typical expense, I agreed with the children and decided on Greatwood at SugerLand. After my initial visit, meeting some of the current residents and touring the facilities, I was impressed with what I saw and made the decision to "Move In". The location was also big factor in my decision in the my children and grandchildren live relatively close by. Now a seasoned resident of 1 year and 7 months, I have found the fellow residents to be of different backgrounds and experiences yet with like needs and desires. Spare time activities are in-place and growing as the request an participation requires. The fellowship and commonalty is inspiring and helpful in the daily life. I STRONGLY recommend Greatwood @ Sugarland to all commers.
