The first community we visited via a virtual tour, therefore, somewhat limited. Seemed nice, with activities. Shared laundry room on each floor. Limited outdoor spaces. Indoor pool. Billiard and ping pong tables & game room with movie theater when virus is abated. Friendly folks, did not discuss details of meals, etc. as we are looking at general information, costs, etc. not so much for comparison of communities but input for future. We were pleased with what we saw and the current rates seemed more reasonable than some locations in the nearby area. We liked the layout of apartments with atrium in the center for a more spacious feel with more light.

Really liked this community. Residents and Staff very friendly and involved. Wonderful activities and outings. Menu did not seem to have good alternatives and rooms entirely too small for my power chair.

Just the openness of the space as you walk in is so welcoming. [Name removed] kept that feeling of caring and home alive as we toured. I was welcomed with not just hand shakes but hugs and care. I found a loving home.

Its a beautiful facility. Its clean and well maintained with added bonuses like indoor plants and a koi pond. It has plenty of space for activities, and the rooms are very nice. The staff I met was very friendly also.

I want to give this a 4.5 rating. I really liked the people there. It was originally made to be a hotel so there are no balconies. I am meeting with Valerie again on Saturday to take a look at the 2 Bedroom. It is still in contention. The people will be the determining factor here if the two bedroom works.

After living at Dunwoody Pines for two years, I would not recommend it to anyone. The turnover in dining room staff is terrible and under staffed. They have a few good wait staff who have been there a long time, but most of them are new and not well trained. The food is cold, vegetables are undercooked, rolls can be used as hockey pucks and you are lucky to get a roll before your main meal is over. Desert is either served while you are eating your meal or you are sitting for 15 minutes waiting for it. The dining room manager has no idea on how to run a dining room. He should have never been placed in that position. He has no personality and barely grunts at you. What a terrible place!!!

PROS - [name removed]i is a great tour guide. We had lunch with friendly residents & the food was good. Service is leisurely but fine. The open-atrium gives the place a spacious hotel lobby feel. There seems to always be activity going on there. Price for 1 BR is within budget. Size of apartment is OK. CONS - High rise is not as appealing to mom. Not much room for landscaping or grounds for walking. There are sidewalks into neighborhood but no trails. Do not currently have first floor apartments available, which would be preferable if you have a dog. Also heard that elevator wait can be long. One elevator was out of order.

My good friend lived there for 11 years. Friendly staff, and I loved the open layout, no long corridors where you never saw anyone. Great location and super nice management

Friendly environment, fair choice for indoor living. No rooms with balconies or patios. Not much space for outdoor living or walking with pets. Missed the feeling of caring attentive staff, sense of community, and attention to detail. For example, on arrival for my appointment I was helped at reception desk, and invited to wait in the cafe, and to coffee or something to drink but both coffee dispensers were empty. Residents were not greeted by name and not engaging to visitors.

I have recently made the move into this community and my husband will be here with me in a few short weeks. I this place is just wonderful and I am comfortable in my new living environment. When I make my way down to the dinning experience the meals are always excellent and the company is even better. They also have a great activity program with different events throughout the week that I am looking forward to getting involved in. Overall it has been a perfect fit and we are pleased.

A Place for Mom has scored Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
