I really liked the Assisted Living section of DC. It was clean, inviting, it has wide hallways and gives the feel of private apartments. The apartments themselves have good layouts for comfortable living. I also liked that there was always a nursing staff on duty in case of an emergency.... Read more

I toured Discovery Commons South Biscayne; it was beautiful, everyone was nice and the nurse spoke to us. My mom had an incident and Discovery made sure to call and check on her during that time and that was very nice. We chose another community because as soon as we walked in, we felt like family. Discovery didn't have that same feel. During our tour of Discovery the lady showed us some of their past activities, whereas the other community had activities going on at that moment. We could have toured at the wrong time, but we just knew that the other place was the right fit.
Good community. it was too far from family.
We are very happy with Discovery Commons South Biscayne. I cannot say enough good about them, I think it is a great facility. It is not institutional at all, it is a wonderful place. It is definitely worth taking a look at if you are in the market for this type of care. I am not worried about my parents care at all anymore - they have given me great peace of mind.

Every since this place was bought it went down hill. My father has had sores on his foot and heel and had a rash. He been taken to the doctors with out any family member and even to the hospital. Closes family member is not being notified. They do not look at paperwork that has been signed and had my father signed paperwork even when he is not supposed to because of a medical report stating my father has dementia. I also have him on a recorded line stating one of the staff member is very rough with him. I will be taken my next steps....

We visited this community but were not able to tour it. The staff seemed distant and really didn't offer a lot of information
So far everything has been great and my mom has been very happy here in the memory care unit. We looked at a lot of other places and halfway through our tour here, we were already ready to move her in. She could not walk when she moved in and she is now exercising at ballet bar and participating in activities. They offer tons of activities to keep their residents busy. They have a Facebook page where you can see your loved ones participating as well.. They seem to be doing great with COVID and keeping their residents safe. They have been very open with communication and we have had no issues. We are very happy with our decision with The Springs at South Biscayne.

Response from Discovery Commons South Biscayne
January 13, 2021Thank you for your review! It has been an honor to serve your mother and watch her thrive.
DONT BE FOOLED, my husband was evaluated by 4 different people on 2 separate occasions & he was accepted, I paid all the move in fees , advance room fees etc.. his monthly bill for his studio & care was 6700.00 a month & you have to provide the furniture, linens , all hygiene items (diapers, bed pads, wipes , shampoo etc) so it came to more than 7,000.00 a month. After being there for 6 months (5) of them in quarantine, locked away in his room 24/7. They discharged him ! They said he had become to much work !!! He entered the facility as a 2 person assist & left as a 2 person assist! It’s a beautiful place but they will take your money & discharge your loved one with no warning !

Response from Discovery Commons South Biscayne
November 16, 2020Patti, we are sorry to hear about your experience. We found your review concerning and would like to discuss your concerns further. Please contact us at [removed] at your earliest convenience.
I am surprised at the positive reviews, especially about it being bright lol Moms room was so dark like living in a morgue. The Springs is okay but the place is sleepy and dark and boring. The most exciting activity is bingo and they cram everyone into a small room. In our case our biggest concern is that twice in 9 months a nurse accidentally threw away moms urine. Mom gets back to back UTI's and this last time the order from the Dr was given on [date removed] and on [date removed] they finally told me they accidentally threw it away. I was calling and emailing daily in between. This is not acceptable care. borders on negligence. in the meantime mom gets more and more confused and the infection gets worse. We moved mom last week and at the new place they had her on an antibiotic on the second day. Not used to such efficiency. There are some bright spots about the Springs. We had a couple of incredible caregivers, [name removed] and [name removed]. [name removed] is a wonderful nurse. [name removed] in the business office is wonderful. [names removed] at the desk as well. The dining room staff is great and the food is always good. Unfortunately, they are understaffed. It's a sinking ship with a new ED and I feel for him because he has a lot to fix. Everyone there is not friendly and walk past you without even a smile. All in all if you are looking for a place for your loved one, I just can not at this time recommend the Springs. They have a lot of work to do to get up to par with their competition.

The Springs is clean and bright and the atmosphere is cheerful. Staff is fantastic. Each and every staff member can be counted on to greet residents on a first name basis and always with a smile. We have absolutely no concerns or complaints. Choosing The Springs for my mom was a great decision

It is amazing! My husband came from Conselate Health of Port Charlotte , which I don’t recommend to anyone, please keep your loved one away from Conselate ! But The Springs of South Biscayne is a top notch facility! Clean & efficient, & amazingly beautiful. The staff is kind , courteous & really care about there residents, my husband has a private suite, with a couch, tv , mini kitchen, bathroom. They tend to him immediately with a button around his neck or on his wrist . It’s independent, but full care facility. My husband has had 3 strokes & paralyzed in both legs & his left arm , he is mentally handicap also . He only has use of his right arm . We believe the “Springs” is an assisted LIVING facility, my husband is LIVING Again

I recently moved my 93-year-old mother from CA to The Springs in North Port, FL. Big, big change for mom after living in her single-family house she and my dad built 43 years ago. Hard to leave all that behind, but mom likes The Springs and knows it’s one of the nicer places in SW FL. Plus it’s very close to where I live. She likes the food and says it’s very good, except she says the bacon is over cooked. She said we all have old teeth and need softer bacon. I do get that. But she orders food from a menu and if she doesn’t care for the choices, she can get a burger and fries, or a BLT, soup and/or salad. Plus ice cream whenever she wants. She really likes that. The entire staff is very professional and very conscious to the resident’s needs. Mr. [names removed], Senior Sales Consultant, is easy to work with and very responsive. The maintenance staff has bent over backwards to do things for my mom. The nursing staff is attentive and the cleaning staff work extremely hard to keep the facility clean. This is not a cheap place by any means, but the facility is new and nicely done. They are competitive in price with other facilities around the area and it’s a first-class facility. Mr. [name removed] works with people to best suit the needs of every new resident. So far, mom is doing well.

[Name removed]'s mom likes it very much. She often remarks how clean it is and how good the food is. She says all the workers are so friendly.

Looking for another person, I thought she would feel safe, get around easily, have nice sitting options besides her room. Activity I noticed was well attended, beautiful dining and outdoor patio. Facility very impressive and rooms, closets, bathroom were spacious and walker friendly. Only visited once but on the top of our list to consider.

I have lived at The Springs at South Biscayne for over a year now. I moved to Florida to be closer to my Son, Daughter-in-law and Grandchildren. I couldn't ask for a better place to live. I have gained so many new friends and keep busy with the activities throughout the day. The food is delicious! I am truly blessed knowing that there is always someone here to help me when needed.

Everything was very appealing to the eye, very upscale, clean, well managed. Many very nice amenities. The 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments we compared. Neither one can hold a king size bed for my parents. They have no conterspace in the kitchen to even wash dishes because the microwave sits on it. The wide hallway space prob 10 ft should have been reduced and added to the apartment to make it an option for us. The bathroom does have a roll in shower unit for a wheelchair. It is great for a single occupant. It is very expensive with a poor layout in the apartment. The staff was very professional and eager to please.

Excellent respite stay for my mother. She was there in August/sept for 11 days. She has dementia and so needed reminders for mealtimes, etc. The care team was very attentive and caring. I just hope the facility has opening the next time we need respite care.

Everything is working out very well for my mother with her move to this community. i do feel comfortable with her move here. I know she is safe, and in good hands at this facility. This is a good, safe community, and I'am pleased with all they have done for us.

Spacious rooms, friendly caring staff, plenty of appropriate activities and above average food service made this a perfect respite for my mom. I probably will have difficulty in getting her back home.
