Have to give it an adjustment period. We have had a lot of adjustments especially with nursing. But after a 6 month period every thing seems to be going ok. Not very good views on the 2nd floor. At first he didn’t like the food but all in all things are ok now just give it 6 months for everything to settle before judgement.

Based on my moms situation they were able to accommodate and attend to her particular needs. I would recommend Discovery Commons. They watched over my mother until the end.

DC was clean, Aides were awesomely wonderful, my loved one got lots to eat, but Management sucked. They kicked hubby out because THEY had obsolete alarm systems. He kept escaping, like it's our fault. And way Too expensive. Disliked management from day 1. I wish he could've stayed at DC. Can't say enough good about the Aides caregivers. Top notch.
I like that Mom gets regular showers, medication dispensed to her, Laundry done and apartment is cleaned. What I like least is the daily charge to deliver mom's meals to her apartment (it's already very expensive to live there). The fact that she could use a little more attention to her needs, such as making sure she isn't sitting in human wastes for hours while it soaked through many layers on the bed through to the mattress. I don't like that I have told them repeatedly what mom doesn't eat and they continue to serve her those foods which get thrown away and she misses a meal. I don't like from day one- no one encourages mom to do any activities: crafts, happy hour, etc. or even to go down to dining room for meals. I have asked repeatedly for help with this issue.

It's very nice, clean, and doesn't look like a nursing home environment.

Our loved one lived there for several years over the period of several owners and directors. The biggest positive was the amazingly caring dining room staff and the housekeeping /maintenance staff. There were some standout resident care aides but the turnover was dizzying and the outstanding ones were far and few between. Sadly., many care staff had a language barrier making it hard to converse and understand each other. The nursing elite was mostly stand-of fish and lacked the compassion of the outstanding aides. Happy hour was a weekly respite from the mundane and unimaginative activities. Food was mostly mediocre at best. I have to say some didn’t look fit to eat. Retention seemed to be a problem among Chef/cooks, as well as care staff. I visited several times a week so I have a first hand opinion of the place.

I would say I could recommend them without reservation. The amenity care was very secure and everyone comes together in the common area every day. It was also very clean and everyone was friendly and attentive.

They were really amazing! The only reason mom had to move out is because my dad refused to pay for it anymore! She wants to go back. They help you through every step of the way and have answers for questions you haven't even thought of yet. They take the time to understand your needs and not rush you. Mom had the smallest little studio apt and it was just the perfect size for her. She didn't really participate in the activities unfortunately, she was only there 8 days and just getting used to it before she fell and hit her head. She just got home yesterday from rehab for five weeks and hope she can go back soon

At first...Huge mistake on their part for placing my Mom in Memory Care and not Letting me take her to her apartment on assisted living side. After a month I was allowed to move Mom to assisted living. Things have been great since then. It is very clean in most areas, however the dishes are not always clean in dining room. The dining experience is very nice, food is not always palatable. the activities sound fun- my Mom has become a bit of a recluse, sadly..so, she has not taken part in them. It is very expensive. We can barely make the monthly payments. But it is a nice place with a friendly, caring staff and my Mom is well taken care of.

We picked this community because, it was newer facility, they had 24 hour nursing staff, and overall value for cost. My advice to other families is to, look for care levels provided and ability to accommodate as health conditions change. Also for staff to resident ratios.

Our experience with Discovery Commons was a nightmare. The nurse who evaluated my loved ones said they could not take them because of a wound. I went to take him to the ER and then they called and said it was no big deal. It was a huge mess all because of a tiny cut on his head. The only person who was good was the administrator, other than that whenever we would call no one else knew what was going on. I wouldn't recommend this facility.
We really like this community. They have some wonderful caregivers here, but some aren't as great. The facility is nice and clean. They offer a lot of activities. We pay extra for shower assistance and mom is supposed to get showers twice a week, but it's often only done once a week. We addressed it with them and they fixed it for awhile, but it's now back to once a week. Mom is very happy with the food. Good quality and variety. During the hurricane they were on top of everything. Health and safety was top of the line. We eventually lost power, but they still stayed in contact with us by email, which was great. Housekeeping is once a week and they do a very good job. They do offer transportation, we haven't used it yet. Overall, it's affordable and pleasant. They even upgraded her to a bigger suite for a lower price. I would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

My dad thought he would have a hard time adjusting when it was time to move from his home to assisted living. He has been living there a few months and really likes it. He has met new friends, the staff has been very kind and helpful, he loves the food and the facility is kept up very nicely. He is less isolated now, due to this move, and we believe the additional socialization has had a positive impact on his health and mental faculties. Very nice place!
