We have really liked having my father at CAL Sweet Memories unit, he has dementia and throat cancer and having a rough time. The med techs and staff have been wonderful with taking care of him, some ladies more than others that have dealt with cancer and know how to handle my very stubborn father! They are very caring and very knowledgable of the care needed for their residents! They are also very reasonably priced!

Price wise they are comparative, no others would be better. What they do and what they say they’re going to do are not the same things. I thought the food was good. Every time I’ve been there it looked good. There is an enclosed sun room and when the weather is nice they can go out into the court yard. It’s a real good idea to visit frequently and at different times and to always let the staff know or administration writing know when there are issues and they seem to try to take care of them promptly.

We are very happy with it, they are very nice people. The only thing is the parking, if you go during the day parking is limited and it can be hard to park. The Value is very good! They were very reasonable compared to other places we saw. The food is good depending on personal taste and what the meal is that time.

The rooms appeared clean and organized and the residents content. this facility is nearest the VA Hospital and was one where the staff and administration were anxious to assist me. $ approx $3510/month with added cost related to laundry and cleaning. Less emphasis upon outside trips but was mentioned with option for outside transportation to medical.

The front area, where you would walk in, was clean, but when we went to my dads room his room was not clean. There would be trash and needles for his insulin under the bed and on the floor in the corners. I even picked some up and showed the nurse and I asked her what they were doing there and she just said "Oh well, I'm sorry" and that was it. His bathroom... basically him being an amputee and tryign to get himself on the toilet would make a mess and the toilet was leaking. My mom went to the adminsitrator and maintence several times and they told her it was going to get fixed, it never did. Then she called the corporate office and they just kind of mopped around it and said it was fixed. Lets just say there were probably 1 or 2 nurses that acted like they really cared and the other had turned up nose attitudes and would say "we have other patients". I know that, but i work in the medical field and I know that each nurse is assigned to a patient and every body needs to be taken care of. If they don't care or have compassion they shouldn't be in this field. Once my dad got there he started to deteriorate, it kind of pulled his spirit down.

My mother spent a couple of weeks in Commonwealth for re-hab after a surgery, and loved it. This is what caused us to consider assisted living for her.

A Place for Mom has scored Commonwealth Senior Living at Hampton 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
