We chose Colonial at Fort Lauderdale because I wanted a facility with both assisted living and memory care, and they provided that. The location is great, and the rooms are large and airy and have a large sliding glass door to the outside. The visual aspect to the facility is very pleasing as well. The man who brought my loved one in went above and beyond and I want to give him credit. I cannot say enough good things about him. They could use improvement on the food. Most fruits are canned instead of fresh so they could improve the quality. They do not listen to your food requests. They said there is a salon on site, but there is not one. There is also no dedicated person to go to if there are issues, so that has been a little frustrating. I would recommend if your loved one is more independent.... Read more

Colonial assisted living has gotten horrible since they brought in the new head [name removed]. Since then my mother has been overmedicated. Ana had her sign papers so they could control her social security without notifying family. My mother is blind and had no idea what she was signing. I moved her out and now she is thriving.

We do think that [name removed] is a really good manager but just like many places right they are struggling with staffing. We have to remind them to get our loved one up during the days so they do not miss a meal. It does take awhile for things to get fixed when requested, and house keeping needs improvement. It has been good lately but we do have to bring things to their attention more then what we should. We do think it is a nice community but just needs some improvements.

My husband had fallen out of the bed, he had Covid from the facility and had not handled it well. He went to hospital due to this fall. Had not great experiences, he was in dirty bed and there were numerous occasions when he was not checked on so many times. The social worker was really only associate whom assisted me during this time. Staff is not doing there job at all.

We did not have a very good tour experience with Colonial at Fort Lauderdale. The gentleman who was showing us around would only talk to my husband and not me even though it was my parent who was going to potentially be moving into the facility. He also did not show us the memory care area which is where my loved one would be staying, so we had no judgement of what it was like.
I was researching placement of a family member living in the area & I live out of state. Initially Sales was all accommodating, as the move-in date approached details kept changing & answers to questions were vague & evasive. On move-in, the resident was confirmed for secure memory care area, but now was being put into general population! Family caregivers left & resident was combative. Colonial called caregivers in parking lot & were told that resident would not be admitted, take him home. My call to get details & how to correct situation to regain admittance was met with vagueness & empty promises & the DoN refused to talk to me. All calls I placed went to voicemail with no response ever! Resident was never in Colonial's care, yet they were keeping all fees paid some 30 days in advance to secure room, community fees etc. Email refund request was met by email stating "will look into situation", with no response over 30 days out. My continued emails to them were ignored.

After my loved one passed there were a lot of personal items missing. Things would just end up missing as soon as we bring it. Communication between the staff and the community was not good. There were times when my loved one was sent to the hospital and we were not informed. I would not recommend this community to others.

We chose this facility because i felt it was a homey place, it did not feel cold and institutionalized. My favorite part about this facility is the people there. The workers are very outgoing and will help in anyway they can. My mom has no complaints about the food, I have never eaten there before, but the coffee is very good. The first room my mom was in was small but nice, now the room she is in is much bigger and brighter. I would definitely recommend this facility.

The community is usually spotless and the staff is always great. I was very skeptical placing my mother in any community until I met the staff. After I met the owner, they made my mother and I feel so welcome and at home; I have been extremely happy with them. They have kept the residents active by doing exercise classes and painting and things like that. My mother seems to be very happy when I talk to her. Definitely a good value for the price given the level of care. I would highly recommend Colonial to anyone looking for a place for their loved ones!

I went to the Colonial Assisted Living in Fort Lauderdale because my Mom requires special needs. Let me just say, WOW the transformation in architecture and staff. they created a mini town and neighborhood indoors. its a very welcoming atmosphere, the staff is very warm and welcoming, always smiling. Pricing was awesome considering the accommodations and services provided. they have specially trained staff for my moms needs and that was the deal breaker for me.

I toured Colonial Assisted Living today at Lauderhill, and what an amazing transformation. The new owners have put real thought into recreating the community, it is beautiful!!!! Not to mention how reasonable the pricing is, and how warm and friendly the staff is towards us and the residents. They have shared, single and executive accommodation.

They are about average. They all have an odor but this is no more or less than others. The carpet needs to be replaced, and some deferred maintenance kind of things. The management staff is pretty aloof, but the daily staff is pretty good. The food seems to be ok.

I have a family member live in this place and he is treated like a second had citizen. The owner has been in there room at least three times a week finding complaints about the roommate. He has a companion dog and keeps it with him and he complains that the dog being inside when it doesnt make a sound. Not a place that is very wheel chair friendly. If you have a choice send your family member somewhere else. there is no activities for the resident exce0p maybe bingo.

There was an entire shake up in the entire place. She wasn't happy there so we moved her. They had a new owner and he was not pleasant in the way that he treated the employees. When we were there it was the Courtyards of Inverrary, and they've changed the name.

There was entertainment in the lobby when we arrived - a woman singing. She was so loud, I had to write our names on a piece of paper for the receptionist. I understand hearing issues with elderly people, but this was ridiculous. Did not find the facility to be clean, and was unimpressed with the tour provided by Wendy in Linda's absence.

A Place for Mom has scored Colonial at Fort Lauderdale 1.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
