We had to make some hard decisions very quickly but now into our third month at Clayton Oaks, we would make the same choice again. We are involved with my husband's care, questions are welcomed and responded to promptly, and the environment is warm and welcoming. The staff is pleasant and professional. There have been difficult times as medication routine and his overall care plan were worked out, but problems are addressed and followed up. Caregivers are compassionate and respectful. Their menu is varied and food is very good. There are choices for group activities and entertainment for those who are able to participate.... Read more

I like that most would be room size is larger than other places. They tend to be understaffed (sometimes severely) as far as caregivers are concerned, & many of them aren't as good as they should be. The food also leaves a lot to be desired, & there's has been a high rate of turnover for chef.

The one thing that I can tell you is that my initials experience was incredible. [name removed] (the executive Director) handled the task of getting [name removed] (my wife) set up to be moved to the facility. My wife was coming out of the hospital due to a broken hip (but her dementia was late stage) and as it was, I was in the hospital also at the time she was to be transferred to Clayton Oaks. [name removed] went over above. She made at least two trips to visit with me prior to my discharge. Additionally she offered to go to our apartment GREATWOOD at Sugar Land) and collect some things that she would need, and she had done this two times. Additionally the fact that she was so pleasant, we were able to really connect. I have had no issues since our first encounter with Clayton Oaks, so I guess my overall rating would be a five!

Mom is in memory care so may be different but I find that the care staff does not properly take care of her personal hygiene. It has been largely up to me to make sure she is showered. Provide a log of when she was showered, ate, activities etc. the family does not know how they are being treated and loved one can't tell them. Facility is kept up and the food is good.

Response from Clayton Oaks Living
February 6, 2024Hello. I am sincerely sorry that this has been your experience. I would never want a family to have to track when services are provided. The Memory Care Director and I are highly involved and welcome the opportunity to fully understand and address your concerns. Please reach out to me directly at 281-341-6200. I look forward to speaking with you.
All areas are 5. My mother chose not to participate in activities, but a variety was offered. I am grateful to Clayton for helping make my mother's final six months as safe, comfortable, and pleasant as possible. I would highly recommend Clayton Oaks to potential residents and their family members. My mother received compassionate care there during the last six months of her life. She loved the aides, physical therapists, and her dining room friends.

Based on the experience we have had so far with Clayton Oaks Living, we can say that the food definitely needs major improvement. They seem to be short staffed, but most of he caregivers at the community are nice.

February 23, 2023Teresa, thank you so much for your review! We're so glad you have had a good experience with our staff and community.
I am a Chaplain with a major hospice company and I go into a lot of facilities around the Greater Houston Area and Clayton Oaks by far has always been my favorite facility. Not only is the facility in top notch condition, but they have staff that truly care for their clients and patients. I have never been more impressed with the way they treat their guests and it becomes very evident from one’s first step into the lobby. I truly enjoy my time visiting my patients at Clayton Oaks! Great people is what makes it a great place!

February 23, 2023Jason, thank you so much for your review. We are so glad you have had a good experience with our staff and community!
I felt like the director was out of touch, even after meeting with him twice, and only cares about the money. The director is very arrogant, uncaring and rude. They allowed our loved one to fall 4 times, requiring them to be hospitalized.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a fantastic experience. It was an older facility compared to others we had looked at but we really liked all the staff we met with and the director actually made time to sit down and speak with us. We would highly recommend this community to other families. Everything was super clean, well kept and there was a great sense of community there.
Walking into this community it is very grand, it is so welcoming. Sometimes our concern is with the staffing and the turnover rate and being short handed but they are so attentive and helped our loved one transition from assisted living to memory care which we appreciated.

Nice building and nice furniture, but staff are rude and snobs. Very unfriendly employees. They will act nice when family is present, but beware of how they interact with their residents when they think no one's watching.

Clayton Oaks Living is a very good facility, and the care services are great. From what we have seen the meals and dining services look good we have not seen otherwise. We also think the value for cost is fair.

They have been good, but it's hard to judge fairly because of the pandemic. The staff was very helpful in handling all of the pre-paperwork and getting my loved one moved in. This was during the pandemic, so they had to do more than normal. I think they have had a decent amount of activities with the pandemic going on. They're having some inside activities, like bingo, arts and crafts, there's an exercise class, and movie night in their theater. But they've not been going anywhere, which was a big reason we decided on senior living. Although just today they made a trip to Target. And I think they just started Happy Hours back up for the residents. I believe that family members used to be invited to those once a month, pre-pandemic. So things are starting to get better. The staff have been very polite, and super friendly. They all appear to like their jobs.

While COVID was not present, she had a good experience here, but once that hit it all went downhill. My mom got COVID while she was here, they assured me that she did not get it inside the facility, but she had not been out even for doctors visits, so she had to have gotten it there. After mom went to the hospital the second time, we were getting ready to take her to rehab and I discovered she had no glasses, no hearing aids, or her dentures. So they sent her to the hospital without that stuff and they said they didn't know where they were. Overall, we did not have the best experience at Clayton Oaks.

My loved one started off in the assisted living, and then moved to memory care after about 5 years. All the ratings are combined for both the assisted and memory care unit. If your loved one is going in under assisted living, and able to function for themselves. You won't have an issue with a community. The community states they have memory care assistance, and it is for the basic memory care for assistance. If your loved one needs assistance on daily living activities, I won't rate this community very high. They are not setup to offer more memory care assistance. You can bring in your own staff, but the cost is there as well.

Don't be fooled by the nice look of this place or the salesperson trying to get you to sign up. You will regret putting your loved one here, and it will be heartbreaking. We thought this would be a safe place for our mother, it is not! They are short staffed and there is high turnover, so residents in Assisted Living have to wait a very long time for a caregiver to come help. The call system is useless and rarely works properly. There are constant medication errors at Clayton Oaks. They allow unqualified people to distribute medicine, because they have very few trained staff. In Memory Care, residents are either parked in front of a TV for hours, or left alone in bed with soiled clothes and missing meals because it's easier for the caregivers to just leave them there. The staff has no empathy for them. Many of the residents have fallen and broken bones. Family members install cameras in the rooms, and have watched helplessly as their parent was treated with neglect. Clayton Oaks had a major COVID outbreak and at least nine residents tested positive, and many staff members. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Your parent will quickly experience major decline if you admit them here. I hope my review can save at least one person.

Nice facility. Too close to the freeway for us. Didn't see that many residents when we visited. Rooms can be changed according to your needs which is a plus.

A Place for Mom has scored Clayton Oaks Living 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
