Brookdale Shawnee

It is one of the better atmospheres, but it doesn't seem to matter to the residents. If they are sad and missing their family, atmosphere just doesn't matter to them. It's a place I would enjoy living in, except for the urine smell in the module hallway. The rooms smell fine. The cost is extreme, but mom is worth it. The [fee removed] up front fees for admin seems a bit high, but they did throw in a pillow, sheets and blanket and a small refrigerator for drinks. The turnover of staff is ongoing, but the main caregiver for mom is constant, so she hasn't noticed. She's been in Brookdale since July and has recently been put on Hospice, so she receives a lot of comforts care. Her health seems to be improving. All in all I would give each item above a 5.

I would say 5 on everything but staff, there are a couple that I really don't care for, they had an excellent aid leave and did not try to keep her, she is very dearly missed.

Brookdale Shawnee is a beautiful facility. From the moment you walk in, you will find caring and attentive staff, willing to help each other and each resident. Safety and compassion are stop priority. They are top of mind when it comes to referring others. Thank you for all you do!

The staff at Brookdale Shawnee are wonderful. The move in process was very good, they were very accommodating. The meals seem to be okay. I think that the individual rooms need to be cleaned more than once a week. Overall, it's a very nice facility. The staff are just so very nice and caring for the residents there, which means the world to us. I would recommend Brookdale Shawnee to others.

What our family likes the most about the Brookdale Shawnee is the friendliness of the staff members there. They are so helpful to the residents. The community is clean and again the staff seem to really care about the residents. [name removed] is the best. We would recommend Brookdale Shawnee to other families based our experience.

Brookdale was fantastic. We picked this community, because the location was good, but the sales person was above and beyond in terms of answering all of our questions and making us feel very comfortable. I would give them my highest recommendation without hesitation.

We've been happy overall. I feel like the activities are one of the most important things for us. They do a really good job keeping the residents busy. I like that they try to keep everybody in the main areas where they can keep an eye on them, and my loved one isn't just sitting in her room by herself. The cost seems pretty fair and in line with other places.

I'm pretty happy with the community. My loved one is very happy here. The area and rooms are always clean. The residents are always well put together by the staff. You can tell the residents are being well taken care of. Every time I've visited the residents are doing items in the communal areas. The staff keep me up-to-date on my loved one. The communication is amazing! They have music once or twice a week. There is always some activity available for the residents. I think the value is there. My loved one feels relaxed there. The rooms feel more like an apartment, and this still helps with the independence.

The community was extremely friendly and they went out there to take care of my loved one. When I first walked in it just felt right and I wish we would move her in sooner. I would recommend this community to others.

The nursing staff will lie to you about what actually happens at their facility. They say their response time is 5-8 minutes, but my parents have waiting sometimes up to 40 minutes for a staff member to respond. They will also make up services to bill you for and then allege that you authorized these same services. They will put on very nice faces when trying to sell you on their facility but once you're in they will find a way to charge for services that are never or rarely actually done. Run far away!

I think this facility is better for people that drop their loved ones off and aren’t involved with their care. Staff and management are rude and [Removed]. Food is horrible, most of the time the staff can’t even tell you what they are serving. The bathroom toilet and floor are always dirty. Very very disappointed in the quality of care. Mom was very sick for 5 days before they even noticed. It is a huge worry, can’t wait to get her moved. Management is totally incompetent and gets worse from there. There are 3 or 4 staff members that are very good, the others not. Problems have been discussed with the director to no avail, completely ignored. The quality of care you get depends on the nurse on duty. There is one we think the world of, the others not.

This community is working out well for my mother in law, and her needs. They are taking good care of her, and her needs. I know she is safe, and in good hands. The staff is good, and providing her with good care. Everything is moving in the right direction for us since her move to this community, and it is one I would recommend.

My mother was in this community for a month, and she had a horrible experience. I was not satisfied with anything they did for us. This community has major room for improvements. Their staff needs to be more caring, and attentive. They need to provide a better level of care for their residents. We were not pleased with my mothers stay in this community.

The staff were doing the best they could with my dad. The staff had a challenging experience and they still continued with the services he needed. While he was there he did participate in some of the activities. We picked this community because they of their willingness to provide services to my dad and no other community wanted to try or backed out.

So far everything has worked out well with my mothers move to this community. She is safe, and receiving good care. I know she is in good hands. The staff have been very attentive to her, and helpful. They do a good job with keeping around the community neat, and tidy. This is a nice facility, and I would recommend it.
