Overall, it was a very good experience. The only complaint is Brookdale making major cost increases two years in a row [fee removed]. Excessive increases in a short period. I was able to negotiate a reduction to the CPI for each year, which was helpful.... Read more

Plus, an alert system and keypad entries have been installed to heighten security. With more peace of mind, you can spend your extra time doing what matters most to you. Discover new literature in the well-stocked library, unleash your creative side in the arts and crafts studio, or take a stroll along the scenic walking paths. Cost went up abruptly 15%, but they worked with me to adjust down some. Overall it has been a very positive experience. The staff are very friendly and attentive to our mother's needs. They assisted greatly with the passing of our father. Very compassionate and experienced in dealing with the death of a loved one.

The staff are very friendly and they are communicative with the family about our loved one. They are attentive towards my loved ones. There are three meals a day served and there are choices for the residents to choose from. There are activities for the residents to participate in, if they choose to.

The community was nice and we did a virtual tour. I would have liked the tour to be more comprehensive and the community just didn't fit our needs.
My first indication that Brookdale New Hope was the right place for my mother occurred when the executive director, [name removed] insisted that I come visit with her to evaluate the facility. I had informed her that I had visited other facilities, including Brookdale properties and commented that I assumed all were very similar. She insisted that I visit and the rest is history. I was most impressed with the culture of friendliness and caring. It was obvious that [name removed] set the standard for others to follow. Despite the poor condition of my mother at the time of admission (surgery followed by pneumonia and rushed rehab), the goals were set high and all parties have delivered. The Brookdale staff at every level have been accommodating, responsive, and genuine. I must not overlook the physical and occupational therapists and the doctors used by Brookdale to care for the patients. They were excellent and the results exceeded all expectations. They all have an extremely difficult job in what is a very trying time for the families and their loved ones. We are very satisfied with the service and care given to our mom to date.

Mom is like a seenager at camp. She thinks her room is so special and has developed special friendships. She feels safe and comfortable and has excellent rapport with the staff and feels they truly care about her. She wishes there were more activities for mental stimulation. However there has been a transition in that they were temporarily without an activity director and hopefully that will be addressed. When I visit the residents are always excited to see me and love that I eat with them and attend their programs. They converse about the people that come and give their time to be with them.

My father has been at Brookdale New Hope over 3 years. The appearance of this place pretty on the outside and hallways are kept clean but they do not keep the rooms clean on the inside. My father had a small cut on his leg and blood got on the carpet and the staff never attempted to clean it up. He fell on [Date removed] and was not attended to when he needed help going to the bathroom when you pull the Help string you always are waiting for assistance. Staff has poor rating, when a person needs Help you are Ok if you don't need help. I also think they were over medicating. my Dad after his fall on pain meds. He later died in the hospital on [Date removed]

I had a nice tour of this community, everything went well for the most part. The community was falling in disrepair from what I saw. The staff was friendly, and kind. Everyone treated us well, but this was not the community for my father, and his needs because it was one of the most expensive in Gastonia NC.

When we first moved into this community everything was going well, but now we are not pleased with the care my mother in law is receiving. They have dropped her twice, and they have not been responsive when we express our concerns. The meals need improvement, and when I expressed my concerns about the food. They told me there is nothing they can do about the meals. With the amount of money my father in law is paying out, we expected better. This community is for someone that requires little, or no care at all.

My mother in law has been in Brookdale for a short time- the response to needs is very poor and she has fallen while being transported by staff members- the management team has assured us they will train and look into these issues but we have yet to get an update-

I've been very happy with it. It's really clean and nice, you couldn't ask for a better situation. There were some questions we had about getting some things installed very smoothly. Most recently we asked some questions about medicare, and they haven't been able to answer those for me. So some billing issues.

When I go visit Brookdale New Hope the nurse gives me prompt and accurate service. Anything I need she helps me with. The marketing lady is also excellent. My sister is in good of shape now being in this facility as she was before her stroke. Things are really working out well for her there. My only complaint is I haven't gotten the billing straightened out yet.

I have been very satisfied with the services given to my brother, who is 84 years old and blind. He is the only blind person in the facility and we are charged for someone to come and get him to take him to the dining room. He has been unable to learn to get there without help. His room is cleaned once a week and items that have fallen to the floor (kleenex, papers, etc) are in the floor when we arrive unless it is the day the room is cleaned. He has been very pleased with the meals, but sometimes he said they have only "cottage cheese and salad" for a meal. I believe he just does not see his choices and hears only a little of what may be said to him, as his hearing is also bad. The Sunday church service is recorded. He is unhappy about that and so he does not go. He likes that a minister comes on Tuesdays, and they sing and play the piano. My brother has always been in choir and had started singing with them. This is giving him some times to look forward to. They have holiday celebrations with decorations and mini-parties. Prices increase each year. You may start out being able to afford the rate, but it keeps climbing. You can talk with the office personnel and may get a discount if you truly need it. It is no higher than others around, and in fact, is a little lower than some. You are charged for any additional services "you" require. An extra charge is levied because he has to be led to the dining room, living room, etc. He is charged because he needs help taking his medicines. I am proud to tell people that he's at Brookdale New Hope. Residents are treated like the valuable people they are. The outside of the building is nice and the inside decor is quite nice. A large living room like home, dining room with table that seat only 4, not long dorm tables. This helps for people who are hard of hearing. I recommend Brookdale New Hope as a nice alternative to "home>"

I visited this community and thought it was really good. The staff is friendly the community is clean but it was just too big for what I am looking for. The size of the community really seemed overwhelming. Everything else in the community is nice and seems like a good value but the size just steered me away.

We have already visited Abingdon Place and enjoyed our visit. We are still in the process of looking at different assisted living facilites and appreciate the great tour and lunch we had at Abingdon place with Mother, myself, and my daughter. We have not made a decision yet.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale New Hope 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
