The size was important. It has more of a home feel. We picked them because they were highly recommend.

The aids and front desk and nurses are very helpful and friendly. Sadly, the facility has gone through 3 directors in the last year and many things have gone by the wayside.

Response from Brookdale Kenwood
August 2, 2024Thank you for choosing Brookdale and taking the time to share your feedback. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and encourage you to contact our management team.
Our experience at Brookdale Kenwood started well. Good care, nice facility, good food. But more people moved in without adjusting staffing. More demands made on caregivers, kitchen staff. Quality of life for residents has fallen significantly. Three things from the last hour summarize current conditions. 1. After 45 minutes waiting for lunch in the dining room, I took my mom upstairs and heated up a can of soup. 2. I learned the Executive Director quit. Sent in her resignation letter and walked out the door. 3. Another new resident was moving in. Brookdale Kenwood has serious problems that need to be addressed. Stop bringing in new people until you get your house in order.

We had high hopes when we first moved into Brookdale last spring. The care was excellent. The chef very good, providing meals in a small dining area. We soon learned that the facility had recently been remodeled. More people moved in. Staffing levels did not change. Still more people moved in. Key staff left and they have had difficulty hiring and retaining staff. The admin staff try but are struggling, As of today: The nursing staff is often overloaded making it difficult to meet the needs of individual residents. The dining room is a disaster, with all levels of staff, including the executive director and other admins, helping cook and serve. There are often not enough aides to care for the people in residence. Turnover is still high. Quality of care can be spotty. Main issue? They are continuing to recruit new residents. I would guess the need to fill rooms is coming from corporate offices. But they need to get the house in order before bringing in more people.

What we really like about Brookdale Kenwood is the staff, everyone was extremely sweet, proactive and accommodating. The facility was very nice. The location was great. Her room size was sufficient. Based on our experience we would recommend this community to other families. The reason the value for cost gets 4/5 stars is because it is a bit pricey.

During our loved ones stay at Brookdale Kenwood we thought everything was very personable, very caring, the staff members are always very supportive. They always answered our questions and were very complaint when we needed them to give aide and assistance to our loved one. However when our loved one passed there was a big lack of communication when it came to payments, and a big misunderstanding. The issue was fixed after coming to an agreement but make sure to pay attention to the money aspect - we found it to be unprofessional

I toured this community and it was excellent. Very clean and staff was very friendly. I noticed the interaction between the staff and residents, it was very good. Very genuine. If they could have provided the level of care my loved one needs, he would be here. The tour was great, my guide took her time with me and answered all of my questions. I highly recommend them!
It was a much more modern, and older facility. It looked like the typical nursing home. They were going through a cosmestic upgrade.

September 15, 2022Thank you for taking the time to visit Brookdale Kenwood and share your feedback.
We almost did. The tour was informative. It showed us that they were less than truthful. I was looking for a place for both my parents, and they had told us that they would be able to accommodate my dad's cigar smoking. The director told us that initially, and then when we came back a second time and sat with nursing and 5-6 different staff members, they told us the same thing - no problem. Then they sent us the paperwork for my mom, 88 pages total because 56 of them were the same page printed. The smoking section clearly stated no smoking. When I called them about it, they said they can’t allow smoking in the facility. And because they were not upfront with us, we cancelled our commitment to them.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a really nice tour experience
we toured Brookdale and upon first impression it was nice. we chose another community because Brookdale was further away than we anticipated.
Overall we are pleased with our experience at Brookdale Kenwood, my loved one is doing much better here than where she was previously at.

I like their willingness to work with my loved one. I like the fact that when she was in distress, they came to me and let me know their care plan. At one point, she was a little overmedicated, and they were in contact with me about that and how they were changing her meds. I think they're trying to find a good solution and a good place for her to be medication-wise. And they keep her busy. I know she's participating in activities - I'll be on the phone with her, and she hangs up the phone because they come in to get her.

Brookdale Kenwood was awesome during my dads short time here. We chose the facility because it was close to me and close to all of his doctors. We looked at 3 other places and on the surface it seemed similar to others, but once my dad moved in they took care of everything and were awesome. It is a great place and I would recommend.

Brookdale was terrible for my dad. They immediately started Him on a laxative, unknown to us at first, even though he did not need it. He ended up in the hospital. They denied ever giving it to him, even though I had proof. They added $850 more a month for two person lift, because he was so weak from their mistake! They also drugged him, and never told us of the changes and additions. They were often not truthful, and terrible at communication. The care was minimal at best, with very lazy attitudes. We moved my dad out of there, and the new place removed three drugs from his protocol, and reduced the dose of a fourth, and he is so much better! And it’s $2000 a month cheaper. Brookdale Kenwood was a horrible horrible Experience for my dad and our family. I would never ever recommend them for anyone.

January 30, 2020We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. Please be assured the safety and well-being of our residents is our first priority and we share their concerns as well as the concerns of their families.
Brookdale Kenwood looks great, but don’t be fooled. My Dad was there one year and the care was fine during the day and Horrible at Night. Multiple times he was unattended in the night, leaving him soiled! Disgraceful!!! The Administration calls that treatment “A Miss”. Our family was told to be happy for all the nights that he was kept clean. Really?!? The Head Nurse was horrible. Management charged us for more staff than was used. Kind to your face, but unfeeling to the cries of unattended patients. You need to have an advocate and someone watching your loved one Every Day. Not to be trusted.

My mother broke her hip nearly 2 years ago. Because of the changing level of care she has needed, she has moved multiple times. The experience at Brookdale Kenwood has been one of the best . The executive director, activities director are amazing and more than helpful and accommodating. the care and nursing staff are kind and gentle and take good care of my mother. I would highly recommend Brookdale Kenwood.
