Brookdale Hagerstown

Although we did not ultimately choose Brookdale for our Mom, I was very impressed with the facility in Hagerstown. I especially liked the feeling of safety and dignity afforded the residents in memory care. The rooms were clean and comfortable and very much the same as those in assisted living. Memory care residents also were able to attend activities available to residents in assisted living, which I did not find elsewhere. The garden was lovely and provided a restful space as well as a safe place to walk. [name removed] was our guide and she was empathetic, caring, and professional, which I truly appreciated.

The lady at the front desk is just absolutely wonderful, and we are able to see some of the activities they offer to the residents online through Facebook.

If I could score Brookdale 25 out of 5 I would, it's that great! They are 100% at everything they do. I have never experienced a senior living community that cares this much about the residents. The food is very satisfying, especially their holiday dinners are amazing. All of the staff in the building pitch in all of the time. It's not about a job description, it's all the residents. The executive director's door is always open. The communication is prefect. If I call and leave a message, they respond promptly. I told my husband, If I ever need to go to a senior living community, this is where I would want to be.

We really liked Brookdale and thought that the accommodations were very nice. It's been awhile, and things start to blend together, but our overall impression was a very good one. They have a secure protected outdoor patio that I think my Father would like very much. They are the only place we have toured that has this asset. Their programs sound good and their staff seemed kind and helpful. Costs were in the average to medium high range. Good value for the cost.

The below review is based on my first visit to this establishment. This place looks good and seems to be fairly clean, however, the quality of service leaves a lot to be desired. My mother-in-law is presently living there and she definitely does not receive the personal care as they advertise in their brochures. I visited her recently from 1:00 pm until 8:30 pm and I observed only one professional employee the whole time who came in to administer her medications at 8:00 pm. Not one employee checked on her well being the whole time prior to that time. Visitors had to assist taking my mother-in-law to the bathroom since she’s incapable of doing it herself. What’s even more astonishing, she has no way to ring or call for help (no buzzer around her neck). In addition to this, she was recently found lying on the floor twice within a one week period. She has badly bruised hands and a cut on her leg which could not be explained by the nurse. It’s very hard to say how long she was lying there—this kind of personal care it totally inappropriate and unconscionable. I recommended to my father-in-law to have her removed from there as soon as possible.

So far everything has been good. The only thing she has complained about is the food. I think she just needs to ask for thing that she would like. Everyone is very friendly and nice. They seem to take good care of her. She is already going out on trips with them and seems to be going to activities that they offer. They seem to have activities going on all day long for the residents. I feel comfortable with her living at Brookdale.

The management and staff are extremely customer friendly. They were very patient with my father who went through a period of adjustment in transitioning from his single family home to a spacious one bedroom apartment. My father has made friends with a group of men who h dines with and now looks forward to seeing them daily. He is very active with the activities available according to the staff. As a nurse, I think I have a realistic expectation of what assisted living facilities can provide and Brookdale does a very fine job. The first month I had to advocate for my father and speak with the DON to review monthly charges and make sure that we are being charged for the appropriate level of care and I think that this is good advice for any family at any facility as they are for profit. I would recommend Brookdale to others.

I highly recommend this facility. My grandmother has lived there for over 4 years. The staff is very friendly and got her involved in painting and the chorus. She loves it, and they even went to sing at a local nursing home, she can't stop talking about how good she felt giving back to the less fortunate. We have lunch with her from time to time and the food is really good!! I would give this community 10 stars if I could.

This looked like a nice clean community. The staff I met were nice and knowledgable. This community was little more expensive than what we were looking for.

Please read the reviews below too..this place is bad!!! My husbands family had their mother there. Preferential treatment was given for her entire two year stay to individuals at this place. Our mom received it too. It is not right!!! The staff was giving private medical and family information to parties they should not have regarding our mom. This came from the top RN at this site. Management was advised..nothing changed. While she was there, another resident had fallen from their bed. Our mother told us he needed bed rails and she even told the staff! Nothing happened...even though he was injured from the fall. Our mom was lethargic and depressed while there. We have moved her to a new place and she is like a new person...no depression, very energetic, literally a 180 degree change. Please do not place your loved ones at Brookdale Hagerstown. Please take care and watch out for your loved ones while in these homes. I was astonished that even the RN at this location participated in this kind of care. If a zero could be given it would have been done.

They did not listen to us that he was having a reaction to the medication and he was hospitalized. I would not recommend this place to any body. They were giving him too much medicine. They don't have enough staff to care for memory care patients and [Removed] them . Nurses lie and are incompetent. They told me nothing was wrong and he was having a reaction. When we went in to speak to the head nurse we were told she had left but she was still in the building listening to everything we said. After his hospitalization, we were cleaning out his room and they had the nerve to hand us a bill for the next month. They should have to pay for his medical expenses.

Please do not promote this property. I had to pull my husband out in an emergency and he was hospitalized for 3 days. On top of that they want me to pay for the entire month. There nursing staff does not listen to the family members and they deny anything that will make them change how they take care of the individuals that live there. You can not tell me that my husband was just stiff from sitting when the hospital tells me different.

BEWARE: Nursing staff are [Removed] incompetent. Had to remove my loved one. The place reeked of urine and the staff were rude. Please, never send anyone here.

They are a very good place. I had a gut feeling that this was the one and it worked out, I just knew. Mom is getting therapy and is getting much better since being here. She has not complained about the therapy. She does arts and craft and gets her nails done. They have a great chef and she enjoys all the meals. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner with the her and the community. The housekeeping has been fine, no misplaced or lost articles. Working with [Removed] was great.

Night tour operator rude and indifferent. I wouldnt let my dog stay here.

We are very pleased with all this community has done for us. My father is doing very well here. We are very happy with his move here. This is a lovely community, everything is very well maintained. His health has improved since his move here. The staff is amazing, they are great with informing me of anything that happen. Everyone is very kind and patient. This is a wonderful community with great people. We are very impressed.

This seemed like a nice place when we toured it. It was larger than the community we choose but the people conducting the tour where nice and knowledgable. The only thing I did not agree with is that the dementia residents are on the second floor.

Mom is doing better since moving into this community. She is starting to participate in some of the activities. The community is clean and I have already recommended it. I had a chance to try the food it is good and they offer a variety of choices. I am glad A Place for Mom recommended this community.
