Brookdale’s priorities are messed up! They used to care about the people living there, now they care more about money and filling the rooms with a staff that could care less. They have certainly changed over the past 3 years!

Things have certainly changed at the facility since my family member moved in as a resident. But if I had a better option I would take it. Initially they presented better on the tour. I liked the fact that when my family member was in standard AL room she could have her cat. Big sell point for me and her. Also they have basically eliminated activities for the memory care residents. That wasn't the case when I chose them. But the Director left and now they don't do anything.

Response from Brookdale Hagerstown
September 10, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear we are not meeting all of your expectations. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you further and encourage you to reach out to our management team.
Our family member enjoyed living there but moved in February of this year to South Carolina just a couple miles from our house. I would recommend this community to other families. It was smaller than where she lives now and we actually prefer the new place and its grounds. However, when we were looking, it far surpassed other local facilities we visited who had immediate availability. It was very clean, no foul smells, bright and well decorated. Meals were OK if not outstanding and employees were responsive to her needs.

Mom has had all her money stolen, her wedding g rings and her entire jewelry box. They did find the jewelry box but all gold jewelry had been taken. After the third theft they told us we could put cameras in her room. Brookdale does not have any cameras in their facilities, nor do they have any outside of the facilities monitoring who goes in and out. Cleanliness: In the beginning I would have said a 5 but now it's more between 2-3 they have had a lot a staff turn over. Friendliness of Staff: Most staff I would give a 3 but there are a few who are a 5. Quality of Care: Mom only needed help with meds up until about a Month ago. Meals and Dining: The meals are the worst. We bring mom groceries weekly for her to eat. Even the staff say the food is not good. The meat is dry and most food is very spicy. Activities: The activity director quit a few months ago and they are in the process of hiring a new one. Value for Cost: average. Her cost went up by [fee removed] last month when she needed help with bathing and dressing after a short hospital stay. Her total is up to about [fee removed] /month.

August 16, 2024We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and hope you will contact our management team to further discuss.
Negative is you never know if there will be a med tech on duty because it's unbelievable how many times they don't show up or they come in late. Same with room assistance . Communication is not good either. They can't keep an activity director so many days there is nothing for the residents to do. Only positive thing is the nice residents out there.

My mom was previously a resident at Brookdale Hagerstown and overall it was a very good experience for her. The cleanliness and care services were good. The friendliness and the staff were both great. Brookdale Hagerstown was very helpful and took wonderful care of my mom. I would recommend the facility to others.

We moved our Mom from a facility in NC back to her hometown of Hagerstown. We were so disappointed and discouraged with the care she received in NC that we were hesitant to start the process all over. After interviewing 6 facilities in the Hagerstown area we settled on Brookdale. In the year our Mom has been a resident of the memory care facility at Brookdale we have been impressed with how well they communicate with us, their caring attitudes, and all the activities they do with the residents.

My father was in Brookdale Hagerstown when he passed. I'd recommend that if your loved one was near death to remove all valuables from their room. He died on a Monday and when we went on Tuesday to collect his things the three most valuable were missing. An "investigation" supposedly occurred but we were never notified nor items returned.

My favorite thing about living here is the laundry service - silly but true! I love the clean linens and clothes. I think the food is really good and I love the puzzle table and all the activities. The birds in the programming room are a wonderful thing to have around too! So far so good...

I moved into Brookdale a little over a month ago. Everyone has been super nice, staff and residents included. The food is great and all of my needs are met. I was hesitant at first, like most are, but coming here ultimately was a very good idea.

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. My loved one has commented that they are pleased with the care they receive, the residents are nice, and the food is good. My loved one has settled in nicely in to the community. There are three meals a day served to the residents and there are choices for the residents to choose. They have snacks available as well. The staff communication with the family has been good, and they even do care meetings to keep the family updated on our loved one even do re-evaluations. There is a monthly calendar of activities that are planned. These activities are varied to keep the residents interested. There are pictures and comments sent to the families of the residents weekly by the Executive Director.

Mom enjoys it, which is the most important thing. The staff do what they can for her, which is also important. Sometimes they have an issue with communication with me. But if I have an issue and take it to them, they correct it right away.

The staff is great, aides are wonderful. They keep the same people for mom's group, they make a strong effort to do so. Very good with communication and getting back with me on requests and medical info. The only downside is I feel that I must clean the room when visiting. But overall the facility is great thus far.

We are extremely pleased with Brookdale Hagerstown. From the very beginning the director was super friendly and we immediately felt like it was home, the staff could truly not be any nicer. My husband and I even said when it is our time this is where we want to go. The residents were so welcoming and looked to be very happy. There is a lot going on inside the community, Sundays are a little slower, but during the week there are all sorts of activities. They have meetings with the families frequently just to update you on how your loved one is doing and we really like that aspect. We are extremely happy with the experience and would absolutely recommend them to others, it was a hard choice but we are glad she is in good hands.

we toured Brookdale Hagerstown and it was a good experience and tour. we ultimately chose another community because it was less costly.
While I have only been a resident at Brookdale for two months, the community has exceeded my expectations. I was extremely hesitant to move but am so glad I decided to. The food from the kitchen is good, the residents and staff are nice and my days are filled with so much more than when I lived alone. Thank you to everyone at Brookdale!

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Hagerstown 8.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
