Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland is a lovely facility. I have gotten very comfortable there and I like the style and the layout of my apartment. There are a few area areas of weaknesses that occur occasionally. However, I must say that the administrative or the leadership staff are aware of the problems and are very open to suggestions or complaints of the residents. I really feel like the staff places the residents first and we are their priority. A major area that needs improvement is the dining and the food. We are lacking a head chef and a manager of food services, so that makes a lot of people very unhappy, and I must say that I am quite disappointed in that part, especially since the rent for Brookdale is higher than anywhere else that I looked except for maybe one other place. To others that are searching for assisted/independent living I feel like Brookdale is one of the best places. The Director of activities and programming is excellent and uses feedback from the residents. All of the activities are fun and interesting, diverse, etc. I would say to not be alone or to have lost a loved one and wanting a place for activities and socialization, Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland is top-notch.... If I could give the overall experience a 2.5 I would, and I would move them but it would be difficult. Overall it is an ok place to be, they are understaffed and they don't seem to coordinate when one person is in charge and knows what's going on and then they leave for a few days. That person doesn't seem to leave notes for the next people that are in charge .

When I moved my parents to Brookdale Green Hills, I unknowingly fell for the "chandelier effect." This is where a place looks fancy and beautiful, and is expensive, so you think that it must be a great place to live. Nothing could be further from the truth. Brookdale was a horrible and traumatic experience and I would not recommend it to anyone. My father left there two months and then died. He was unable to pass away peacefully at Brookdale due to poor care. He had to be transferred to a private hospice outside of the facility. my mother lived there five months and then was sent to the hospital because they were unable to care for her. They would not allow her to return unless I enrolled her in hospice, which was unbelievably inappropriate because she did not have a terminal diagnosis. She just had difficulty walking. I herniated a disc there trying to lift my mother when no one else was available to help. I was out if work (as a physician) for a month and had to have surgery. I could have sued them, but I just want to be done. Needless to say, she did not go back. We are now at a different facility is absolutely wonderful and much less expensive. Please do not send your family members here.

I do NOT recommend Brookdale. It was horrible. The sales woman , [name removed], makes a lot of promises that are just lies. She promises catered food to your needs, new theater chairs ( broken) , dog park, and countless other promises. [name removed]- completely unprofessional and speaks about private conversations to staff , non family members and residents. Only admits truth when confronted with facts. The facility is out dated. Front doors haven't worked in almost 2 months. Doors were not locked in the night time. Under staffed all the time I tried to battle with them and corporate on behalf of my mother and a lot of other residents. But- they just lie

[name removed] was very welcoming, and accommodating, and made me feel confident that people would care deeply for my parents. The nursing staff is responsive and caring. Last, the rooms are more spacious than other places. Literally, a God-send place to care for my mom and dad at the end of mom's life. [name removed] is an angel.

The staff at Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland are mostly friendly, but not always helpful. It may take days for my phone calls to be returned or they may not be returned at all. I have had a couple of encounters with staff being shockingly rude. The facility is kept incredibly nicely by housekeeping, but the individual rooms are not necessarily. There was something that had spilled on the floor in my parents' room that stayed there for over a week. Communication with the family does occur when there is a major event like a patient fall, but as above, communication is not always returned. And with things like falls, I usually hear about it from my parents before I hear from staff, sometimes pleading with me to help them because no one is responding to their own emergency call buttons. I have driven out there in the middle of the night a couple of times because no one has been responding to them. The combination of movers and interior design was extremely helpful, and they did an excellent job. However, my parents did not have a working telephone for over a month, despite enormous efforts on my part. The meals are excellent quality, but the dining staff has been a problem. Most of them are quite nice, but I had the worst dining experience I have ever had in my life in the dining hall, due to the severity of rudeness that my parents and I experienced. Meals can be brought to the room, but there is an added charge per meal for this, and when that happens, there is no guarantee that the food will actually be brought. My parents have missed meals due to being too ill to go to the dining hall and no one bringing them food or encouraging them to eat. I would not recommend Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland to others.

It was a good tour experience. The community was not as inviting, as other places. It was a more formal atmosphere, and some people like that.
Staff is great! They know their residents and greet them by name. They answer any and all questions

They really need additional personnel to assist especially at night. One nurse on call for this facility is not enough. Properly trained care personnel would help.

If your loved one is active, Brookdale is a fantastic place for active seniors. There are residents here who actually run their businesses from their apartments! If a couple decides to move in and one is independent and the other is in need of assisted living or memory care; Brookdale won’t divide the two or say one can come, but the other cannot. The 2 bedroom apartments are very spacious and you have the option of choosing a full kitchen or a kitchenette. If one person needs to leave and can’t bring the other with them, they will allow a 3rd party sitter to come over or you can hire one from Brookdale. A lot of communities don’t offer that. The Brookdale sitters are substantially better in my opinion, because they will assist with everything in a bedside manner. They can pretty much do anything aside from administer medication unless they are certified for that. They go with the residents to their doctor appointments and Brookdale provides transportation to appointments and other places. If you are fully independent and would prefer to drive your own car, you can do that as well. It’s a great place if you have a loved one with dementia or in need of advanced care, but you aren’t in a good enough space to retire. You can live here and still work everyday. I’ve seen residents operate full fledged work from home businesses in their apartments. This generation of seniors knows how to operate technology and oftentimes have jobs in tech support, computer engineering, software development, etc. This could be a wonderful place for those people who don’t want to part from their significant others, but would still like to work themselves. Brookdale is a community where you can work hard your entire life and still feel like you’re getting the best quality of life in your last years. They provide a great environment for that. It's nice being able to see couples stay together and I love that! You can also age in place there. Some places don’t allow you to do that depending on your level of care or needs. At Brookdale, their philosophy is that the community is your home. So, if you have a surgery or procedure that is not too invasive, you’re able to go back home to Brookdale right after. I really like that philosophy and I think it can be comforting for those who may not have children or a lot of family. In those cases, Brookdale becomes your family. It really gives that feeling of, “I’m going to my apartment”. There’s also a fabulous locked memory care unit for those who need that level of security. Their patient to staff ratio is very good in that area. It’s kept separate, but sometimes the other spouse is on one side of that unit and they are able to come and go as they please. There is even a sense of independence in the memory care unit and with its residents. They have a person who comes in 5 days a week to entertain the dementia patients with activities. Brookdale is the best of both worlds and I would recommend them to others. I would tell others that if you need more one-on-one care, you need to hire additional help or a sitter. Despite how much you’re paying to be there, wherever you go, there are very few facilities that can provide one-on-one care for someone who is mentally or physically high maintenance.

Our tour with Brookdale was excellent. the facility itself is very clean and the staff were friendly and responsive to all of our questions.
We chose Brookdale Green Hills because it just seemed like a place my mom would like. The staff members are extremely friendly and welcoming, the decor is beautiful, and the director of memory care we got along with very well. It does cost more, but it is a nice facility so you get what you pay for. She seems like she is doing very well here and I would highly recommend them to others looking.

Our family had a virtual tour experience with Brookdale, and they did a great job. We did get to see a couple of rooms which was nice.
The tour guide was late, the place was under quarantine and the tour was still planned. It was chaotic, unorganized, understaffed and we left 11 minutes after the tour was to start. Not impressed.

We really liked this place but it's a bit too fancy for the inlaws. Also at the highest price point. Not planning to pursue for now.
