I think on weekends they should have a couple activities. Due to staffing, it's not like it was 2 years ago. We picked this community because it was more of a cozy home feeling environment and close by.... Read more

I like the area where the facility is located. It's close to everything which is super convenient. I've unfortunately seen staff be discourteous to my mom and communication is lacking. I wish they could get rid of their bad apples (the bad staff) and I also wish they had a nice place for them to go on a walk.

If we’re paying you to care for our elderly, then why did we have to come in 3 times a week and bathe our grandma whose basic hygiene wasn’t being watched by the staff? This was a horrible experience and I will make sure that everyone within York County is aware. Moldy food left to set around her, inconsistent room check ups. Things that should never happen at that price point (or ever) lol.

Essentially, their follow up is lacking at Autumn House East. You have to stay on top of the staff to get things done that they said they would do. So, it's like I'm having to manage my loved one's care, which is what I thought I hired them to do. I would not recommend this facility to family and friends.

Our loved one unfortunately was only there for about 3 days before he passed, but [name removed] who we dealt with during the move in process was wonderful and very helpful. All of the staff we did work with were absolutely wonderful.

Before moving in the facility we were told that Autumn House East would provide outings to stores and transportation to Dr appts. In reality, they do NOT!

I have also had a good relationship with their leadership team. They are relatively laid back, accommodating, and understood that I was suddenly navigating in a world I knew nothing about. The staff are stretched pretty thin, and even though they are dedicated and do their best, they struggle with timely medication administration. Out of necessity, Med Techs are assigned to multiple locations within the facility. However, if you do ask to speak with a Med Tech, they try to get to you immediately to address questions or concerns. I can't stress enough how kind the staff members have been to both of us, and they all do their very best to accommodate every need.

My mom does seem happy here, which is good. The overall cleanliness is ok and nursing staff is good. But the lack of communication issue really needs to be addressed. That's my main concern here. I'm out of state and it's very difficult to get in touch with my mom. They have a phone in her unit, but no one every answers it. When I try to reach the nurse station due to not getting through on the resident unit line, I just get voicemail. It's alarming. And very hard not being able to get ahold of her and talk to her. We're talking days, I go days without being able to reach her. I've spoken to administration about it. We're also having transportation issues. My mom is supposed to be transported to doctor appointments, they have a vehicle and say they offer it. But I think they're so severely understaffed that it's just not happening. Overall, things are just not great. Especially when I'm not close by and we rely on these things. During a visit, I actually heard a staff member say she wouldn't put her loved one in this facility if they ever needed care, that says a lot. Until they get these issues fixed, I would not recommend this facility to family and friends. We're actually looking at moving mom somewhere else.

They did have some recent staffing changes but the all the staff members have been very helpful and understand. The activities do change a lot they do have some good ones Monday thru Friday but not much over the weekends, we do wish they had a little more things to do to keep them busy. Our loved one says the meals are very good but they do give portions. They do bring the residents breakfast in the morning to their rooms which we think is great.

The move in process and apartment our loved one has is very nice. Our loved ones apartment has a stackable washer and dryer so she is able to do her own laundry. Her apartment gets cleaned once a week but sometimes in the big general areas the rugs can get a little dirty but with the amount of traffic going on we do understand it is hard to maintain it perfectly. Our loved one gets three meals a day delivered to her room and for the most part it is pretty good. They have a lot of different activities going on, there is live entertainment every week, bingo three times a week, physical therapy, exercise classes and a really nice library with a lot of books. They also have a really nice inner the residents can go sit at and enjoy the nice weather.

Post-Covid they did not have enough help. The people who were there were good, but there were not enough of them by far. When my mother would go to the doctor, I would meet her there. The day she had her last stroke, the man in charge of transportation at Autumn House called me and said he didn't think they should send her to her appointment because she was sick and throwing up. So I went straight to Autumn House and found her in her wheelchair in her room, with vomit all around her, with no one around. She had had a second stroke, and they just left her be. Her necklace never worked from the day she went in to the day she died. Anytime I would push the call button for her, nobody came. They wanted their money, but they did not have enough staff. We had a very bad experience, and I believe my mother could have lived longer had they provided more help.

They have recently gone through a massive staff change in the last couple of months. It was good before, but after the staff change, I have seen improvement and positive change. Living there has helped my mom. And it has also helped my dad as well, who can now relax more into his role as husband, whereas before he was husband and main caretaker. They've managed her medications and dementia side effects well. Because they deal with dementia challenges every day and have that experience, they are well equipped to care for their residents.

Overall we are fairly satisfied, we like how the staff show interest in their residents and seem to really care about. Our loved one complains about the quality of the meals so that could be improved, they also could use more staffing but we do understanding the struggles with that right now. Based on our experience we would recommend the Autumn House East to other families.

This was a nice community. The community was slightly larger than we wanted for our loved one.
Everybody at Autumn House East has been so friendly, and so good to our loved one she absolutely loves them and the care givers. She is enjoying playing bingo, going to their Church services and doing arts and crafts which she is really proud of. She absolutely raves about the meals and dining service and based on our families experience we would definitely recommend this community to other families.

This is a very nice place. The friendliness of the staff and they are willing to help stand out to me. The staff were right on anything that we needed. The staff communication was great and they were willing to work with us and were able to answer our questions. There are three meals a day served and the resident have choices of meals to choose from.

We toured Autumn House East, it was a nice facility and it would have given mom a lot of room to roam if she would have been up to it. Her budget wouldn't have allowed for her to stay in the room that I liked. It was also an older facility, so it reminds you of a dungeon or an old hospital. If we would have needed to, we would have had to come up with more money. It was also further away, out of three children the community we chose was closer for two of us, whereas Autumn House would have been further for all of us. I liked the staff here and the activities director they introduced me to. The dining and activity room were wonderful and beautiful. I also liked that they broke down the lunching room into separate groups. Everything was clean and nice.
Our family had an in person tour and it was a really nice tour experience
It was a living hell for our loved one - we wish we could figure out a way to tell the world to stay away from this community. It terrible experience.

This community was okay but it was my last choice for where I would want my loved one to be.

A Place for Mom has scored Autumn House East 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
