I am very pleased with the way the staff are attentive and take care of the residents. My mother really likes living there. I think they can have just a little bit more activities. Other than that, really love it.... Read more

Please ask about the cost of level of care, we were told the amount was going to be [dollar amount removed] a month never telling us about a charge for level of care which could be up to an additional [dollar amount removed] a month. But at the time we were told we couldn't back out because our loved one was being discharged from the hospital and needed a place. The staff that work with the residents are good. The higher up executive's, you can't get a hold of them when you need to. I would tell others just to make sure and ask questions. I learned the hard way.

The value for the money was good. Everyone was great, including the nurse and activities director. Before making a decison, you must see Atria. The administartion was fantastic and helpful. Some of my friends, have family members there and they have gave good feedback.

The staff at Atria are very friendly, although they could use a bit more activities. My loved one really likes the music - when the pianist comes in. Communication between the community and our family is good. Overall I would recommend Atria South Setauket to others.

We, unfortunately, had a very difficult stay there. Not by any fault of theirs, they just weren't equipped to care for my mother. My mother was injured before we got her there & the staff told me they could handle her but they couldn't. And 2 days into her stay we found out my youngest brother passed away so things were even more difficult. The care staff does not work for Atria you hire them directly. Also after all the insanity of getting my mother settled [name removed] called to say they were moving my mother to a different room! My brother & I said absolutely not!! We had to fight to keep her settled. After the funeral I took my mother out of there as soon as I could! My sister, up from Florida, stayed with mom for 4 nights to help with her care. It's a very nice place for someone who is well. Can get around on their own & doesn't need assistance. Btw we were in the Independent Living side... I cannot speak to the Assisted Living side.
This community was nice but this community did not have any memory care so that would not have worked out for my loved one.
The tour was good and the community was good in its own way. We found a community that was all inclusive and this was something that we were looking for with our loved one. My loved one needed medication assistance and more and having somewhere that did not charge extra for this was a benefit.
Our family had an in person tour and it was a good experience, it was better value for the money but it was older and darker looking
So far our loved one has not complained about the meals and dining service and they are keeping her very busy with all the activities. We would recommend the Atria South community to others based on our experience so far.

This was my second community that I was interested in for my loved one. This community was expensive. I wrote the cost and the service that was provided and I ranked all of the communities that I was interested in. It just is personally not my way to go. I had to find a middle ground to make the best living situation for my loved one.
I wasn’t impressed with Atria South Setauket. The rooms I saw needed a lot of work.
My dad is happy there. My loved one has there independence back. The staff try really hard and work great with the residents . There is no glitz and glam and the building is on the older side. Has some issues with building maintenance but my loved one not directly affected. But this works out great for my loved one. They prefer for things not to be very fancy. He is a basic kind of guy and his needs are met and has been able to make friends.

I would tell others that the community is friendly and clean. It is a good value for the money. The food is very good, and there is a new chef at the community. The staff are accommodating for the residents dietary options.

Response from Atria South Setauket
September 1, 2021Thanks for sharing your experience! We take pride in delivering quality service each and every day.
The staff members are very friendly and the community is very clean. Everything there was very good except for the food, especially for the money that is being spent. For breakfast you would go down to the counter, they would give you a coffee and a snack bag that had either a cereal box or an apple. For lunch you would do the same thing go down to the counter and they would give you a snack bag with either a ham sandwich, PB&J, or a turkey sandwich. For dinner, you were able to sit at a table in the dining room where you can order a few things off of a menu. One night they had chicken parmesan which I ordered. I got a slab of chicken with cheese that was not melted. The cooks there are not good at all, they need to be paid more so they can make better food.

September 1, 2021Thank you for sharing your feedback. It's important to us. We take pride in serving our residents and families with the quality service Atria is known for.
I would recommend the community to others, and have recommended it already. I like the cleanliness and it is very clean. The food is good. The only thing I found in the beginning was the communication was a little difficult on when things were to be taken care of. Once I spoke to the management team they were receptive and quick to make sure changes.

September 1, 2021Thank you for being part of the Atria family, and thank you for sharing your experience.
In the beginning the food was great, but then it just went downhill. For the activities you have to sign up and the sign up sheet is on the first floor so if you live on any other floors you will probably miss singing up. We think that the overall management needs to be looked at, our loved one was only there for a short time and the seniors were just not treated like adults. The atmosphere was very chaotic and it seemed understaffed. the activities and dining hall was in the basement which caused our loved one to get sick from the moisture. It was not our first choice, just seemed to chaotic and not well managed.

September 1, 2021Thank you for sharing your concerns. It’s unfortunate that your brief experience with us did not reflect our commitment to being a great place to work and to live. If you'd like to personally speak further, please don't hesitate to contact us at customerservice@atriaseniorliving.com, and I will put you contact with the appropriate person.
The community moved fast to help us get our loved ones in there ASAP. They were very helpful and accommodating. The communication between the staff and the family is very good. They send out a covid update weekly and keep us informed. I would recommend this community to others

Response from Atria South Setauket
September 1, 2021We're happy to have your family member call Atria home. We value your feedback and appreciate your kind compliments of our staff.
Atria was very nice and the people friendly and helpful. I feel some things as far as extra care increases were added on without discussions. Because of the pandemic it isn't a prefect time to be there. My mom has gone downhill since being there and we had to get a 24 hr aide. We are moving her out and into a house with my sister and aide. It's become much too expensive and lonely staying in a small room 24 hrs a day.

September 1, 2021Debra, It has been our pleasure to serve your mother and your family. Your feedback is important to us, so thank you for sharing your experience.
Atria South Setauket is a wonderful place! Their people and food make all the difference in the world and in the world of older folks, there is nothing more important; Excellent food & companionship! Chef [name removed] is well-known for his kind staff and his tasty, nutritious dishes. The majority of the workers have been there a long time; that says a lot. They take care with COVID but still manage to keep people active & engaged with many options for mind/body fun & challenges. The activities people are AMAZING Heroes! [name removed] was extremely helpful & available with the initial move-in & ongoing process. The buildings are older, so a family taking the time to decorate the living quarters is important. They also listen to your comments & respond with fair, timely answers. Based on comparisons & what we’ve heard from other families; the value is also high. We are grateful to have our loved one living here.

September 1, 2021Lynn, Thank you for your support, understanding and trust of us through this pandemic. Our residents and staff are what matters most to us. Thank you for choosing Atria!
The Atria has been a wonderful choice and experience for my mother in law! They are taking Covid-19 very seriously while at the same time trying to offer as many opportunities as possible. They are offering socially distant dining on a limited basis, exercise groups, small gathering groups, movies, and my mother in law is enjoying the meditation and aromatherapy. We also appreciate the Atria bringing her to and from doctor appointments. I would also like to commend [name removed] and all she has done to help my mother in law make the transition into Independent Living. She was the first person we talked to and met while we deciding where my mother in law was going to live. She was so positive and helpful and helped us feel comfortable in our decision. [name removed] has also been so good in always getting back to us and answering our questions. She is an asset to the Atria!

September 1, 2021Valerie, Your compliments mean the world to our team. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for choosing Atria.
We learned of Atria from a friend that recently had a family member move into the Assisted Living community. After a couple of visits including one with our mother we felt this was the place that Mom would find comfort. [name removed] at Atria was a blessing in providing a caring, compassionate and professional experience throughout the entire process! Mom has been there now for almost a month and speaks of her positive experiences and highly of the staff. A warm and friendly staff. A special thank you to [name removed]!

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
