Before signing the contract, I spoke specifically about benevolent care. The day we signed,[date removed] UPMC sold Asbury to Oakdale. The marketing director, [name removed], would not let me sign the benevolent contract page. I have called to ask about this 3 weeks ago. I have yet to hear back about this concern. Because of the buy out, it took a month for the Director of Care to reach out [date removed]. I could not sign on with their medical staff. Mom will have her 1st medical appointment tomorrow, [date removed]. A few times, I wanted to find a nurse to ask a question. I walked all 3 floors and could not locate one. Rarely is anyone at the front desk. I have talked with [name removed] 3 times and she is friendly and helpful, [name removed] 2x. The place seems understaffed. Despite this, I think the staff that is there are doing their best. Friendliness of staff - It depends upon who you are talking with. Some are indifferent when I ask a question. Some don't get back to you. Some are very thorough. It's a "trained friendliness" if that makes sense. Meds are distributed, my mom's refusing is met with respect. Mom tells me when she pushes her button, no one comes but I think she is not pushing it or pushing hard enough. My experience is they check on her. Asbury Villas offer a bright, cheerful atmosphere. My mom's dietary needs are very difficult - gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, corn free it's exhausting to me. Yet, the staff has been over the top to accommodate her. A friend of mine is the chaplain of a retirement community in Oakmont. He is very interested in building community relationships with the residents. He personally seeks the residents to come to the activities, and requires the staff to do so as well. He plans outings to The Frick, Phipps, etc and goes on those with the folks. He insisted on adding more in house activities to the daily schedule. Above is a photo of their activities. Some of the people I speak with at Asbury love certain activities but they tell me they wish there was more variety. Going to Walmart and Market District is not a stimulating outing. I hear positive comments about the music entertainment and one man gets very excited about playing dart ball. Seems as though the photo I tried to send of activities at Oakmont won't go through. If I paid for private care in her home at [fee removed]/hour for 12 hours a day for 30 days, it would cost [fee removed] That would not include meals, utilities and would only be not be 24 hours of care.

The staff are very responsive to all of my inquiries and they do a great job in managing her medications. They're also very friendly. I also love her studio apartment which is charming with a nice view. Like the restaurant feel to dining area, though it can use some improvement aesthetically. Although my mom is not yet in a place where she can participate in many activities, they don't seem to offer as much compared to the independent living community where she previously lived. Also, I don't like that they can only assist her with showering twice/week and she has to pay extra for assistance with her laundry. Poor Wi-Fi. Non reliable transportation service to Dr appointments. This was offered at no extra charge at her independent living facility. I've had to scramble to find ways to get her to her numerous Dr appointments.

What our family likes the most about the Asbury Heights community is the socialization through semi-structured activities. That has been very beneficial for our loved one. She often remarks on how good the food is and how nice the people are. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

Asbury Heights is a great place, it is very clean and very well kept. The friendliness of the staff members and their care services is just unbelievable. The meals and dining service is wonderful. Being gluten free and having Celiac disease that was a big concern in the beginning, but they have helped me to legitimately understand what i can and cannot eat and I actually really enjoy the meals i am able to eat.

Great place. Residents here are more on the independent side of assisted living. There seems to be a great rapport with the staff and residents. Rooms are comfortable size. They re-carpet (!) and paint after a resident leaves. Residents can choose from two entrees at lunch and dinner; sandwiches and soup are always available. Many activities are available--which makes sense because the residents are more on the independent end of the spectrum. You must be able to get to the dining room on your own (walker or scooter) to qualify for their assisted living facility, otherwise you are in their nursing care category.

So far we are pleased with my mothers move to this community. She is doing well, and receiving good care. This is a good, safe community with kind people. When we visit the community is nice, and clean. It is a expensive community. So I would recommend it, if you have deep pockets.

I was in this community for a short time. the staff was nice and caring and helpful. I liked the meals that were served. They do offer activities to the residents that want to participate. This was a nice community and families might want to tour to see if this is what they are looking for.

A Place for Mom has scored Asbury Heights 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
