The Bridges program appears to not have the staffing or the activities you would expect for a program that is intended to provide more support than the ASL program. The communication between staff and family is not scheduled but only on request. Hence little ability for the family to understand the staff concerns or the staff to understand family concerns regarding the bridges participant.... Read more

All my ratings are based prior to the pandemic. The professional staff was good. The direct support staff wasn't very friendly and didn't seem to care that much. I believe they could be a little more engaging with the residents.

There is sometimes a language barrier between families and staff. The community has a lot of activities going on and available for the residents. They are very good during COVID. At first they were giving us daily updates on COVID and now it is once a week to keep us updated. I wish they had more sidewalks available for residents to walk on for exercise. They do have courtyards outside for the residents to sit outside and enjoy the community.

When we first came to visit Harbor Chase we really liked how friendly the staff and the residents were. The rooms were very nice on the assisted living side. They were very spacious and more than adequate, however on the memory care side they were smaller but still adequate. The food in the main dining room was very good, but on the memory care side it was pretty bad, sometimes it would be cold and bland.

I have never noticed the community not be clean and the staff is continuously cleaning. It feels very comfortable to visit because of this. The staff is usually friendly. The staff seems to go above and beyond with the care when it is needed.

HarborChase is NOT a retirement community. IT IS A FIVE-STAR LUXURY RESORT HOTEL THAT OFFERS ASSISTED LIVING AND MEMORY CARE. OMG! Words can't describe our experience. We stopped in off the street just to look the place over and make an appointment since we were passing by and [name removed] (the Director of Marketing and Sales) approached us and said why bother with an appointment, "let's tour right now if you have the time" (It was already four in the afternoon). My wife and I fell in love with the facility and [name removed] almost immediately, he was very knowledgeable and shared with us that his mother developed dementia in her later years and based on our shared experience, he really put us at ease and was able to share things with us that we didn't know (why doesn't anyone else tell us these things). He described Dementia as a "journey" for those afflicted AND their loved ones as well, and they concentrate a great deal on not only navigating the resident through the journey but navigating the family through the journey as well. They don't just have Memory Care but something they called "Memory Care Light." It's essentially Assisted Living that is geared toward people suffering from the early to moderate stages of Dementia. The resident (as long as they don't present a danger to themselves or is a wander risk) is free to come and go and in every way is treated as if they were in regular Assisted Living but they are given special consideration, activities and treatment to help them specifically deal with the onset of their dementia. One thing you will notice when you start touring communities is that some are a little too aggressive when it comes to steering residents to Memory Care. Obviously, NOT the case here. [Name removed] was also very honest with us and I appreciated it immensely. For instance, he told us that Dad (based on treatment, activities, sensory engagement etc - they even offer Speech therapy (SP) in addition to PT and OT) may initially get better but Dementia eventually takes us all, the condition always worsens and things will happen in the coming years that we did not even anticipate or imagine and that HarborChase will insure that we know what is coming... Again, he said it would be upsetting at times over the years but it's best to know beforehand. I could go on but I'll just add: FRILLS, FRILLS FRILLS... AMENITIES... AMENITIES... AMENITIES... it seems they had everything under the sun imaginable. I was ready to move in myself. It is pricey, 6K to move in and 6.5-8K a month in rent (admittedly, many places in the Metro Washington D.C. area are even pricier) but well worth it and a great deal for everything you get... more than we wanted to spend but are inclined to take the plunge anyway! Wish there was a six-star rating on this board.

November 13, 2019Thank you so much for your awesome five-star review! We’re happy to hear that you love our live entertainment, delicious dining, exceptional quality of life and especially our compassionate associates. We very much appreciate your review and recommendation!
In the year that this place has been opened - there exist lack of consistent communication (Fire drills), food presentation is unappealing and often untasty- not farm to table concept as marketed, much of the nursing staff members are hard to understand the turn over rate is appalling high, activities were scheduled outdoor and in 90+ degree and no cared to cancel event - so resident went out and waited. outdoor groups come in to hold singing events - in the lobby area, where the reception desk is and one can't hear others (doesn't HC have other rooms for such events), Director is more focused on looks/appearance that does not care of residents well being or being truthful to them

September 19, 2019Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on our community. As a new community in our first year, we are working hard to create the best senior living community in town. We strive to alleviate any worries or concerns our residents and family members may have as quickly and comprehensively as possible. We certainly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to focus and adjust as we need to. We’d love the opportunity to speak to you further about your thoughts and your experience. Please give us a call at [removed] to set up a meeting.
Mom is adjusting to living st HC. The biggest complaint is the food they are being served. One evening a few weeks ago they had beef with a sickly looking green sauce. No one and I mean no one at her table ate the dinner. Also when we can, we try to bring her downstairs to the restaurant so she has a choice. Again at a recent visit I ordered a Apple Waldorf salad. What I received wasn’t even close to a salad. There were 4 yes only 4 pieces of lettuce and a lump of chicken salad. So frustrating to order and not receive what is described on your menu. Please fix this. It’s hard to order anything other than soup from your restaurant. You are not providing what you describe on your menu. And you brag about the chef and fine dining. Sorry for being so direct but you ask and I tell the truth. All other issues with mom have been handled professionally and timely.

HaborChase is brand new and exquisite. That said, as we were touring the property, it twists and turns and I found myself wondering where I was. I can imagine my mother going out for a walk and becoming lost in the halls. The rooms are gorgeous. Price wise, it's a little on the high side for us at this time.

July 5, 2019Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on HarborChase. Although our spacious community may seem daunting at first, we can assure you that the community layout was meticulously designed for the safety and well-being of our residents. In addition, many of our residents and family members comment on the tremendous value of HarborChase. Every day, our residents enjoy a variety of dining options, exciting experiences, a wealth of fun activities, housekeeping services and innovative health services. Our Executive Director would like to invite you back for a chef-prepared lunch and a personal tour with her. Please call to arrange this: [removed]. We hope you’ll visit again soon.
It is a difficult decision for a family to place a loved one into memory care once their dementia has progressed. We chose Harbor Chase based upon the atmosphere and caring staff, unfortunately it is very expensive and additional costs keep coming up. Just another example of an industry that prays upon the elderly and their family's emotions during trying times.

April 30, 2019Thank you so much for your five-star review! Please let us know how we can be of service to you in the future.
I am an RN and my Dad lived with us for 7 years. It became unsafe for him at home and it was decided that he had to be placed in a memory care facility due to Dementia. It was the hardest decision my family had to make. Harbor Chase provided a unit that we had not encounter- the SOUND. This unit was in between ADL and memory care and was perfect for Dad. He was one of the first residents on the Sound, so he pretty much received 1 on 1 attention, which I know will change as more residents come. The CNA's are attentive, competent ,encourage Dad to engage in activities. He is doing so much better there than at home, and most importantly is safe. there is an RN who oversees the staff and has very high expectations of the staff . She is diligent in the hiring. The facility has the feel of a 5 star hotel, with a chef, restaurant, bar, gym, salon, reading area, paint studio, fabulous game room and many outside areas for the residents and their families to visit. Very grateful for this find.
