Review for All American Assisted Living at Washington Township

I would say that initially we had a great experience but once there's a turnover in administration, customer care and service declined. For the amount of money that it costs, I expected my mother's area to be clean on a regular basis. Oftentimes her clothes/personal would go missing despite being tagged and then I would be asked to replace them. Things that were necessary for her like her Rx glasses went missing on multiple occasions and it seemed as if it wasn't important enough for the staff to make sure she had her glasses. It seemed as if this was status quo. I could understand this reasoning if the memory care population was large but they had a small population (under 20 residents). My mother has since been removed from this facility and administration was uncommunicative and uncooperative during the last few months of her stay. I'm still debating on whether to contact my local ombudsman to investigate All-American and their practices regarding patient care. For the amount of money that was charged on an annual basis including 2 increases since my mom's time there I would have expected prompt communication from administration/executive director when problems regarding my mother's care needed to be addressed.

Review for All American Assisted Living at Washington Township

It's a beautiful, new center that is bright and cheerful, friendly staff and happy atmosphere. It seems that the assisted-living side of the facility is active and happy. On the memory care side-- where my loved one is --there are more challenges because of the diminished capacity of the patients. There's less engagement. There's a fine line between skilled care and memory care that is difficult to bridge. My loved one is there for the memory care and it seems to be improving as her time there goes by. The staff has been attentive and is trying their best to create a comfortable place where my loved one can be herself in the best possible way. When looking for a Care Center for your loved one try to be as clear as you can be about what their needs really are. Assisted-living, skilled care, and memory care are three very distinct levels of care. All-American is a fine choice, and they do their best to respect the needs and personalities of their residents. Keep in mind that generally, the healthcare industry has a difficult time keeping up their staffing levels because of the world we're living in these days. So while you're looking for the best possible place for your loved one, avoid idealizing your loved ones needs or the capacity of any Care Center. Overall, All-American gets very high marks

Community Tour

The only thing we didn’t like was you had to share a room with a roommate. The community was very loud and boisterous, which would have suited one of my parents but not the other. But it was a very happy place. It almost had the feeling of hotel, like you were constantly on vacation. Everyone was very nice and friendly.

Negative Experience

We were not happy with all American assisted living. We did feel like they sold us a bill of goods that did not come through. The whole experience was terrible. None of the things they said they would do were done. They told us [name removed] would have physical therapy, that never happened. Some of the staff were rude to both our loved ones we were very clear in our beginning interview of what [name removed] needs were, and they seem to totally ignore them. We told them she would need somebody to come in at like 10 AM to wake her up if that was what was needed, help her to get to the commode and get washed and dressed. That never happened either Food was good but not great. Unfortunately my loved ones were able to participate in the activities. But they were very much aware of all of the activities that they would be able to participate in if they chose to do so The amounts that we initially were told would be the cost didn't seem to pan out. It seemed like there was additional costs added on to their bill which eventually price them out of the place they couldn't afford the 11 to 12 grand a month that the AAA L was asking for. We are there right now, for his senior living is a little bit more reasonable at all American. They considered [name removed] a level four which meant four times $750 per level so it was like an additional $3000 a month that wasn't the deal when we went in there and they knew they had done an assessment of her so they knew what her problems were, that didn't seem to matter. So I guess overall it's a draw there were some really bad things that I thought were unfair, but there were other things that I couldn't fault them on.

Friendliness of staff, activities and resident engagement stood out to us at this facility. The staff is friendly and accommodating however, there is no point person that I am aware of to discuss issues regarding my mothers care or if I have questions. Activities are offered, but not to the level that is offered on AL side. Housekeeping is provided but there's no communication about how often services/laundry is done for residents. The facility is clean. I would not recommend at this time due to the high cost of care in relation to other facilities in the area.

All American is a great place to live. The staff are very friendly and do as much as they can even though they are short staffed. But needless to say not everything gets done w/o lots of follow up. But they aim to please. [Name removed] (director in memory care) loves each one of the residents and involves them in so many fun activities. And my Dad says the food is great. The only issue we have had is the laundry. My Dad only needs 1 load done a week but they lose clothing, must end up in other residents rooms so instead I bring it home to wash each week which is inconvenient. But if you are not fussy about the clothing it's fine. Overall they do everything they possibly can to accommodate my Dad and our wishes to keep him healthy, active, clean and feeling loved.

Grateful for All American

The nursing staff led by [name removed] is excellent. The entire staff is so compassionate about their residents and treat them as if they were the family members. My father was transferred 3 days a week to his dialysis center and the staff was so efficient with his rides. Sadly my father passed away in [date removed] but the staff at AAAL jumped in over his final days and were wonderful to him and our family. My mom continues to live there and they continue to take great care of her. My family is extremely grateful for the staff at All American.

Misunderstood

The All American facility is excellent for a person who is in good health, can be involved in activities, and can socialize with the other residents. For my loved one, it was a horrendous experience from the time she got there until the time we had to take her out. Before move-in, they did not tell us about a problem with her living situation. We signed her up for a private apartment, and she ended up in a shared apartment with another lady. She was in that situation for four weeks. That whole time, they told me they were getting her room ready with new carpets and new paint. Five weeks in, I was told her room was ready. The apartment they put her in still had the previous resident's furniture in it. The rugs were filthy dirty. They spent five weeks doing absolutely nothing they said they were doing. Their excuse was they couldn't get the help due to Covid. And all that time, they were charging her for a private apartment when she was sharing with another person. I believe thy did eventually give a credit for that. As far as the care was concerned, it was obvious she didn't belong there. She needed nursing care, and I can't understand why they said she qualified for their community when she needed so much more care. I think they took her solely for the money. They did not handle her incontinence needs, and our family had to take care of it ourselves. What All American told us and what actually happened were two different things. And the actual experience was SO different than the promising tour experience we had.

Mom's experience

They could not keep covid out of the facility. She was not the biggest fan of the food that they served. I do think they were expensive especially for the services that were provided. We had issues with communication from the staff and they were just not organized. It was not the right fit for my loved one, she needed more services than they were able to provide. I do not think they should have taken her if they could not provide the care she needed and we were very clear in the beginning. I would recommend the facility is your loved one does not need many services, but if they do I would not.

Caring team

We looked at several local nursing homes for my mom with dimentia and now needing more care than we could provide. After about a month wait, my Mom was now in caring hands of AAAL team. First day was rough leaving, and the AAAL team (including Administrator, Director of Nursing, Care nurse) all helped me, my family and mother to handle the stressful moment. It's been 2 months, and my Mom is very settled, not asking to be taken home (like she did first day). AAAL team shares stories about my "spirited" Mom. We are all very happy with the care and can't imagine her being anywhere else now. I wish I'd done this a little sooner for everyone's benefit. I'd be glad to go there myself as a resident one day. Rooms are decent size, no rooms far from the community center So far, only one drawback - sometimes must wait several minutes at entry door to get in so see Mom, as the Memory area is always locked down (same at all the other Nursing Homes for dimentia residents).

This facility is wonderful. We loved it and so did my parents. All of the staff members we interacted with are so kind and I have recommended them to many people. The only reason we decided against the facility was because my parents were more independent so we were looking for independent living.

Just What We Were Looking For and Wonderful Staff, Love the Communication

The community is nice and the staff are nice to our loved one. The staff keep me updated with pictures of my loved one and call with any updates. Anytime I visit they let me know how much they love her. My loved one enjoys the cheeseburgers and there are no complaints. Holiday parties, local trips, ice cream parties, arts and crafts and more that are increasing for the residents to choose from to participate in. They post pictures of activities on their Facebook page to keep the families updated.

We haven't been able to visit since March due to COVID, however we do know they have bingo and arts and crafts session, but we wish they would offer more activities to the residents for them to participate in. We do wish they would have a better way of getting snacks to the patients, most of the time the snacks are scarce.

Best care anywhere, very reasonably priced

From the maintenance guy all the way up to the director they were fantastic. All staff members knew everyone's name, they would always talk to the residents and made them feel acknowledged. Even when our loved one was not in a good mood they made it a point to stop by and strike up a conversation to cheer him. I have eaten there a couple of times and the food was amazing, it was like a restaurant. You could choose from at least four different options. The chefs were very accommodating to everyone as long as their diet was okay. The rooms were extremely clean, it never smelled like urine or feces. If there was a spill in your room, the staff members would come immoderately to clean it up. Thursday nights were cocktail hour, the residents could choose to have either two beers or two glasses of wine with some snacks. He loved playing bingo, and corn hole. There would sometimes be live entertainment to sing and dance. There was stuff for the residents to do all the time. The activities staff would always encourage the residents to get out of their rooms and get engaged. For the holidays you could paint a pumpkin, make a wreath and help decorate the Christmas tree. Every Sunday our loved one and a staff member would play chess, because that was his absolute favorite thing to do.

Consider this place only if your loved one is independent

All American community is pretty well maintained, the original staff was very caring and friendly, now there is only a few staff members that are friendly. You get what you pay for at this community, they have cut the staff back so much that they aren't able to keep up with the services they promised. However the workers seem to generally care, they just aren't given enough time to spend with the residents to do a proper caring job. Before COVID they had activities like bingo, scrabble, bowling, they would have entertainment groups come in around the holidays. It is a neat facility, but slightly awkward. Two residents share one bathroom per suite. The communication with this community is absolutely terrible, they never keep us up to date when something happens with our loved on.

All American Assisted Living At Washington Township

The community was always very clean and the building was brand new. The staff was all very caring and very loving. After she fell, the staff showed a lot of concern and compassion to my mother. The activities director took up a special relationship with my mother and showed so much care to her it was wonderful. They were always checking on her and would come in and visit with her to her room. They were also very accommodating with my mother's schedule and they kept her very active. She really spent a lot of time with the other residents and spent hardly any time in her room! They played bingo often and would take suggestions from the residents as to what they wanted to do. They also made sure to get the residents outdoors and off-community if they wanted. They did bump the price in the beginning without telling us, however we did think given the level of care they were offering All American was a good value.

lovely but a bit on the pricey side, more than what I'm currently paying for the same service. Anyone living here is fortunate as their personnel are committed to being helpful & following whatever the family & resident wants. They're willing to adjust their approach so a person isn't expected to fit a specific mold. They seem to accommodate the resident's needs.

The best Assisted Living anywhere

I have two friends living at All American Assisted Living and have visited about 30 times. This place is by far the best I have ever seen, the staff are just what they should be, knowledgeable, helpful and caring. The place is always clean and have activities all day long. Also they have a nurse on staff, apt program. The food is excellent, tasteful and served by a friendly staff. If you or a family member needs this type of care, do your self a favor a take a tour, you won't know unless you visit. My opinion 5 star rating
