All the way. She lives with me now because they sold the property and raised the rent on her studio apartment by $[removed]/mo in 2023 and then gave us notice that they were raising it "at least" $[removed]/mo in Aug 2024. At least they had the decency to tell us in March that they were going to do it. Thats the only positive thing I'll say about them. Those immoral people drove so many of those residents out of their homes without so much as an apology. Turns out it's only immoral to raise rents that much in NJ. Not illegal. First, they made the food awful. Honestly a line at the desk constantly complaining about how bad the food got. Then, activities were cut. They got rid of the activities director. Said he had too many hours so he had no choice but to leave

I was very disappointed with the way my brother was treated at the end of his time at Woodbury Mews. My brother became a resident in [date removed]. Although he had some medical challenges (a prior stroke and he used a cane and then an up right walker), he lived an independent and enjoyable life at Woodbury Mews. But in [date removed], my brother had a new health challenge which resulted in him having seizures that resulted in a 7 day hospital stay and then a rehabilitation stay. After this new health issue, my brother was wheel chair bound and no longer able to use his cane or upright walker. Woodbury Mews Director told our family that my brother was no longer able to stay in his independent living facility without around the clock care or he needed to transition immediately to Assisted living care. The family was told that based on his finances from his application less than a year prior, that he would NOT be able to afford a single room in Assisted living and that there were NO AVAILABLE SHARED ROOMS for men in the Assisted living facility. So our family was stuck between a rock & a hard place. After being in the hospital and rehabilitation for over 1 month and still paying his rent in [name removed], my brother's daughter had to take him home with her and hire a Certified Nursing Assistant to help with his care, while she and her brother searched drastically for a new assisted living facility that could take their father. They found a new assisted living facility outside of his preferred Gloucester County, NJ location. We explained all of this to the Director of Woodbury Mews and we were told that without 2 months written noticed there was nothing that could be done regarding the stopping of his rent payment. My niece appealed this decision and was still told no, to any return payment or stoppage of rent payment. Our family got a lawyer involved to once again explain the extenuating circumstances of Woodbury Mews essentially denying my brother to return to his independent living apartment without 24 hour care which was not feasible financially but, Woodbury Mews did not have any available Assisted living rooms available so we would need to be released from his contract early so he would not be paying rent to two (2) facilities at the same time. Only after threatening to sue did the Director agree to a 30 day written notice agreement vs. 60 day written notice termination of lease. My brother was forced to pay June's rent at Woodbury Mews even though they said he was not able to return due to his new health challenges and even though ALL his physical belongings were FULLY MOVED OUT by the last [date removed], Woodbury Mews STILL charged him for a prorated week of rent for the month of July, which was a total shock to our family! My initial rating would have been 3. Because although expensive for senior citizens on a fixed income, my brother was able to receive an internet special that discounted his monthly rent by $[removed] which helped tremendously! But once his new health challenges occurred and he paid May and June rent even though he was not physically present at all and once out of hospital and rehabilitation, he was forbidden to return without round the clock care out of his pocket, we were told that even if his could transition to Assisted Living Care they WOULD NOT HONOR HIS INTERNET $[removed] discount. The director was very aware that with this new health challenge that my brother was not on the count down period for qualifying for Medicare and the extra rent that they had him pay for June and July would be needed for his new assisted living facility. And to treat him like a stranger off the street versus a resident who needed to transition from independent living to assisted living and to say we would not honor his internet discount felt like an additional slap in the face!!!! So I would give -1 as the final rating for this category and say that for many employees Woodbury Mews represents a family but not my family's experience with the director of the facility!
Read MoreWoodbury Mews offers a welcoming home whether you’re looking for independent, assisted, or memory care living. Various activities are available for those who want to take part, but the choice is always yours. I have been in independent living for 3 months and am amazed at how time flies. I enjoy the activities and have made many new friends among the other participants. I also enjoy some quiet time too. For that I go to the courtyard where turtles swim in the pond and I relax to the trickle of the water. But what about the food, you say. I have to be honest. I have no complaints about the food except that my waistline is getting bigger. Whether you are looking for yourself or a loved one, check out Woodbury Mews.

We moved dad out of a different slightly more expensive community after we had consistent issues with not being told important things about his health and about problems at the facility e.g. a flood that caused residents to have to move out for a day. We wanted to have him closer so that even if something happened at the facility we would be seeing him everyday and could monitor things. We found that Woodbury news is more Hands-On and has followed through with daily activities in a way that the other community did not. A lot of these places promise various activities but do not deliver. WM seems to actually do them. The other deciding factor was the length of time that employees have been on staff. They've worked here for up to 20 years and seem very devoted to the location and the residents. That counts for a lot. So I don't get a fancy dining room but we do get a good location and dedicated staff. So far so good and good luck as you search for a place for your parents or loved one

The common areas are clean, but I would give the personal apartments a 3 since there have been staffing issues and sometimes my Mom's room gets missed for a week or 2. My mom says the food is great although sometimes they are short staffed and the waitress is slower than usual due to the work load. Others complain about the food as well but my Mom is happy with it. She can eat in the dining room with full service or ask to take her meal back to her room. Nice and flexible. There are lots of activities but my mom does not go to many. She has started a Bible Study with a group of friends and the staff has added it to their activities calendar which is nice. The rates go up each August. Seems very expensive to me but cost of living is going up for all of us so I guess it can't be helped. It is nice that all meals, activities, utilities (except cable and phone), even van transportation for shopping and appointments is the included. They even have a hair dresser and blood lab available on the premises which is great since Mom doesn't drive anymore. Insurance covers lab work but the hair dresser is added to her bill. Overall, Mom is very happy there which makes me feel good

I wish the staff took a little more initiative with the residents. All of the residents seemed happy when I initially came to visit and I happened to be there when they had happy hour (every Friday) with live music. My Dad loved that and that was what really sold me. Highly recommend Woodbury Mews.

My biggest gripe, other than the recent 10% rate increase, is the lack of a care manager to contact. Every time I have question, I am referred to the nurses station. They do a good job of making something for you if you don't want the main meal. A lot of starchy, high calorie food is on the menu. Perhaps that's intentional. You have to remember these older folks sometimes just want something to complain about. ?? My only other minor issue is delivering packages that come to the front desk. Sometimes things are delivered to the wrong building and don't make their way to the resident in a timely fashion. The recent price hike after new owners took over was a bit of a shock. I received a letter about it and left a message for the new director that was never returned, even though the letter said call if you have questions.

The staff that took care of my mother was very good over all. My biggest complaint was the initial fee they charged me after going to my brother's home and evaluating her. A month later they increased the monthly fee by almost [removed] dollars. They told my brother and I that after they got her into the facility they found she needed more care than they initially thought. My brother warned them that he thought they under evaluated her in the first place but they assured us they did not which turned out not to be the case. I really felt this was a bait and switch scheme to get her in there and I did let them know how I felt about it.

My mother is very happy with mostly everything there except the dinners. Quality is poor and even the temperature at time served is not good. Frozen sometimes. Vegetables not cooked ( most older people prefer softer veggies) and pasta very hard. Even soups are cold. Also the rate went up a few hundred 4 months in. I've tried the food and the meals I've tried are worse than elementary school cafeteria.. If food was better I'd give it a higher score. I have to supplement her refrigerator so she has something to eat in her room when she can't eat what they have.

My dad is currently a resident at Woodbury Mews and his experience at this facility has been good. The staff is attentive. They keep the facility clean and they have many activities that the residents seem to enjoy. Communication with the family is good. I can't comment on the move in process. They seemed to have forgotten that we were coming, so things were very hectic but they adapted and settled my dad in. Everyone seems to like the food, I usually visit at lunch so I see what they are serving. It looks good and the residents like it.

The staff is really wonderful with the residents. My Aunt said they always make sure she is included in things if she wants to be. We see the people we met with when trying to decide on a place on most visits there. My Aunt is having a great time with all the activities and really enjoys the entertainment. She even has a best friend already! In addition, it has brought her much closer to her son who can now visit without having all of the caretaking stress. It was the best place for our Aunt. Thank you for your help.

A Place for Mom has scored Woodbury Mews 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
