Very Disappointed

The staff are very personable and helpful. However the maintenance on the 4th floor, the Alzheimer's/Dementia floor is horrible. Whenever I visit my loved one, I bring a bucket and cleaning products to clean the bathroom and room. They currently have a rodent problem. While one of my sisters was visiting, she saw a mouse run across my loved ones room twice. We reported the issue to management. The family is really disappointed with Brookdale.

Would recommend but they need a bit of help

Overall, my moms experience has been positive. The challenges Brookdale Echelon Lake faces are turnover and being short staffed. But I don't think that situation is unlike many facilities these days. One big plus is that it is a facility that has Medicaid beds allotted.

My Tour Experience at Brookdale Echelon Lake

Our tour at Brookdale was awful and we were a bit disappointed. We felt it was poorly run from the tour. We decided on another community in the area.

We had a good tour experience with Brookdale but it was a high rise and we wanted something all on one level. They also were not going to be able to care for my loved ones needs.

Brookdale Echelon Lake just wasn’t for us. It was larger and seemed more like a hospital. Our preference was for a smaller, more homey community.

My Tour Experience

I checked them out because a friend of mine had a loved one there years ago, but my impression wasn’t great. I thought it was terrible, sort of like an office building, sparse and not homey. The execution of the virtual tour itself was good, but you can make anything look the way you want it to in a picture.

virus makes it unable to visit parents

My mom and dad lived here. I cant go into detail of what I experienced but I would not recommend this place especially if you cant visit your parents during this virus pandemic. At this place I would want to visit my parents daily. If you cant do that then its putting the resident at risk.

Great Place to Go

I would tell my friends it is a nice place and to go. The rooms are big enough for one person. My loved was in a private room. The food was good according to my loved one. The activities included: trips going to the mall, crafts, music, religious services, and more.

Anytime I have a question I ask and they will let me know the answer. I would highly recommend it to friends. The food is good and my loved one enjoys it. My loved one was diagnosed with COVID and made quick response with getting her to the hospital and the transition back to the community. The communication to the family was wonderful during the transitions. The director is [name removed]. Anytime there is a question he makes himself available.

Wonderful Memory Care!

I visited many assisted living facilities for my mother who was suffering from Alzheimer's. But when I found Brookdale at Echelon Lakes, I knew I had struck gold. The facility is beautiful, the staff (to a person) so friendly, caring, helpful, and welcoming, but most importantly, they offered me the hope no other facility did. My mother was set against going into "one of those places." Every facility I visited expressed concern that they would not be able to take her if she was not willing. I knew my mother's unwillingness was based on irrational fears and I only had to get her there to show her it was the best place for her-- no longer alone, things to do, caring staff looking out for her. Brookdale staff told me "just get her here and we will take it from there." And they delivered. I got my mother transferred there after a second in a week fall at home and a brief hospitalization. They prepared for her a meal of her favorite food and welcomed her with open arms. Photos they took of her on her first few hours showed a smile on her face we had never, in a very long time seen! We visited an Elder Care attorney at the same time to be sure we had all bases covered and the lawyer spoke highly of Brookdale, mentioning their "very robust" memory care program. The staff able to get my mother dressed in street clothes for the first time in a year (she insisted on bed clothes at home), got her participating in activities, and socializing. I wish I had gotten her to Brookdale sooner.

A Wonderful Assisting Living Facility

My husband and I want to thank all the loving and caring employees who work at Brookdale for all of their support and concern relating to [name removed]. Sadly, [name removed] passed away on [date removed] at Samaritan Hospice. She had many medical issues. [Name removed] stay at Brookdale started last December 2018. She would always tell me how wonderful everybody was and she never felt alone. God bless all of your staff for giving [name removed] the proper treatment and care she so deserved. I would highly recommend Brookdale Echelon Lake to anyone who needs to place a loved one in an assisted living environment. Again, bless all of you who helped [name removed] have such a pleasant stay. Sincerely yours, [name removed] and [name removed]

Happy Family Member of 3 years

Brookdale Echelon Lake has made major improvements to not only the building but the staffing as well. My family needed a place for Dad, he has dementia and we as a family did not know how to care for him anymore. We were in a difficult position because dad only had 1 year of private pay and we could not find a community that would financially accept him, until Brookdale Echelon Lake. My Dad has now been a resident of the building for 3 years and he spent down all his money and is now a medicaid resident. We absolutely love the lake setting the community sits on. We also love the new management team. Brookdale Echelon Lake truly is a blessing.

Gem by the lake...

My aunt was a resident at this place. I was surprised when I first came to visit her, it is an older building so I didn't expect it to kept up so well. This was about 1 year ago. Everyone was so friendly, it smelled like berries when we 1st walked in, my aunt and the others seem to get along with the staff and they looked well taken care of. It has the most beautiful view of the lake. I wish I could live there.

THE Senior Living Gem of Southern New Jersey

My loved one lived at Brookdale Echelon Lake and she absolutely LOVED her experience. In a trying time in her life, battling cancer, Brookdale Echelon Lake was our families savings grace. We were put at ease from the moment our tour began through-out the entire move. My Mom's concerns about moving into a senior community were answered honestly when we asked hard hitting questions. The staff truly cares about their residents and takes pride in their service. The building serves all walks of life and even accepts Medicaid after 1 year of private pay. This is a niche community, 1 year private pay, water front lake views and close proximity to a shopping mall and the library. My mom felt independent and like she still had a life to live while at Echelon Lake.

Comments from a disheartened child

I have been so disappointed in Brookdale, Echelon Lake. I blame corporate Brookdale on this. Extremely poor management. Receptionist placed in charge of housecleaning. One custodian leaves and my mom’s room hasn’t been cleaned by staff since. My sisters and I have to clean everytime we go to visit. My mother, who is wheelchair bound- is so often soiled because staff doesn’t come for 30+ minutes after being called. My mother has been told by staff they don’t have time to care for you- we have others to care for besides you. That is all my mother asks of them. Family members shower my mother. We supplement my mom’s meals because of low nutrient meals. I could go one, but don’t think any of it matters. Our elderly are being taken advantage of by large corporations who don’t care and don’t know how to manage facilities housing human beings. They hire staff at minimum wage or slightly above and put our parents at their mercy- of which there is little. I am saddened and sickened that this is where we have placed our mother. Choices are so poor for our beloved parents.
