Assisted Living
The facility was extremely open and friendly to all family members. The facility worked with us to get my mom acclimated to the place and try different solutions.
It's fine for Alzheimer's care. They had an 'age in place' philosophy but did not have the appropriate staff for deteriorating patients. No RN at night to give needed meds. People who could go to the dining room seemed to have a much better experience. They did come when we called and for the most part, the aides were good. The RN wasn't good at following through with instructions from hospice and once said he will tell her if he's uncomfortable. He was non-communicative and didn't get his meds because of her. All said, I think they are good with patients who aren't too challenging. Many similar places were more focused on female residents.
Mom is eating good, walking more and enjoys the company. The staff that are there are so loving with the residents. It does seem like they are a little understaffed as I do not think mom is getting checked on as often as she was supposed to. There is a nurse on site all day and night. I have good communication with the staff and I would recommend this community.

In Illinois, assisted living communities are licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Assisted Living. Assisted living communities are licensed as either Assisted Living Establishments or Shared Housing Establishments. Once an Assisted Living Establishment or Shared Housing Establishment receives an initial license, the Department of Public Health will conduct annual inspections.
These two types of communities offer similar amount of care, but have a couple of key differences.
Assisted Living Establishments:
Shared Housing Establishments:
Both Assisted Living Establishments and Shared Housing Establishments also have assessment requirements that must be completed before a new resident moves in. New senior residents are assessed in the following areas before moving into an assisted living facility:
The initial comprehensive assessments must be completed by a physician. Residents are then required to have assessments annually, but may need more frequent assessments for things like skin integrity and nutritional health.
Illinois has several services that assisted living establishments must provide. Mandatory services include:
For additional information, look to the Illinois Department of Public Health assisted living page, which has a comprehensive outline of the laws that facilities must follow to keep their license.
