My only negative comment is that the management, while doing a lot to help my Mom and we're very grateful to them, were a little pushy about trying to get my Mom to stay there, rather than leave and go to her home in Wisconsin, where she is now and is very happy. I understand they need and want permanent residences but they were a little hard on her.

Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social interaction as well as personalized help. Services provided often include assistance with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In select instances, communities may provide skilled nursing, “aging in place”, or respite. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation licenses this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include nursing services, assistance with self-administration of medications, personal care services, and assistance with activities of daily living . Staff must obtain education in a variety of subjects. These include: 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years on topics related to assisted living, infection control, providing assistance with activities of daily living, and community sanitation procedures. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as communities must document such assessment, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , and medical examination report. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the label, licensed nursing staff may administer medications, and opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, and meals must be adapted to residents preferences.
