The state of Florida has specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation licenses this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, assistance with self-administration of medications, nursing services, and assistance with activities of daily living . This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, and meals must be adapted to residents preferences. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , medical examination report, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , and communities must document such assessment. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of fields. These include: community sanitation procedures, 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years on topics related to assisted living, reporting incidents, and 26 hours of training plus a competency test. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include staff may take previously dispensed, properly labeled containers from where they are stored and bringing them to the resident, licensed nursing staff may administer medications, and opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program.
