Memory Care
They have done a really good job at keeping me informed. My mom is in the memory care unit, so there is a lot of extra care that is involved. But they do a good job of staying on top of any issues that arise. We decided to have her care transferred from her primary care doctor to the doctor associated with Brookdale, and I feel like she's getting very good care there. My mom loves the food, and she's eating well. They do a really nice job at keeping them busy in the memory care unit as well. I never could have guessed that we would end up needing care when we did, and everything happened so fast. It was a tough transition to make, but they did everything they could do to not overwhelm me and to make it as smooth and easy of a process as possible.
It is a nice place the staff are friendly and kind. They must all take a class about caring for Alzheimer's patients and they ask us to write a history about my father in law so they can get to know him and when he talked about his past they understood what kind of person he was and could engage in conversarion with him about it. Which was important to him to be treated like a person not just another patient. He felt validated while he luved there. Respected.
My mom is a resident at Avery Heights and the experience has been great. Mom says most of the food is very good. They were giving her two big meals a day. At our family meeting we asked if she could have a sandwich for dinner and that has worked better for her, along with some fruits. There are many activities to participate in, but my mom doesn't participate unless she goes to mass. I visit her nearly everyday and I know that she is being cared for.
