The major factors were the size of the community. It is small enough to not be intimidating. The other huge factor for my brother is that it actually has a decent size group of older guys who eat together, watch sports events together and keep each other company.

Experience has been, for the most part, good. I still have some things that I need to figure out or speak to someone about, and honestly, I would love it if there were a community much closer. I would definitely recommend it.

Journeys Crossing in Elkton, VA

My mother was at Journeys for quite some time. All the staff from housekeeping to kitchen workers treated her like family. The activity director was amazing with the elderly. She was loved and well cared for. Would not hesitate to recommend the facility to others. She enjoyed the food. It is a great place to be when you can no longer care for yourself.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a building that houses two or more seniors who have no familial ties to the administrator. This type of establishment offers its inhabitants 24-hour care by registered nurses. These nurses provide health related services for seniors who are unable to adequately take care of themselves.

This type of facility is a helpful and comfortable living option for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will often admit individuals 55 and above (a rarity in the realm of senior care).Nursing homes are required to provide nursing and related services, routine personal hygiene items, specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), and room and bed maintenance services to residents. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to make complaints, exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen, be free from discrimination, and be free from restraints. The most frequent mental issue effecting residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their memory function, and their sense of familiarity, and decision making capacities. Often times persons might decide life in a nursing home due to a mental or physical impairment that prevents them from easily accomplishing their standard of living. Examples of amenities and servicesoffered at nursing homes might include 24-hour emergency care, friendly visitor programs, injections, and intravenous or nutrition therapy.
