I can only comment about the memory unit. Those girls worked hard to maintain order and keep up. I thought to myself a few times that however much money they are making probably isn't enough. It takes a special person to that job.

This is a fantastic community, my father is doing well here. He loves the place and we are satisfied. A place for mom was amazing with all they help they provided. My sister says they are providing him with great care. We are pleased with everything they have done for us.

Woodlands at Canterfield in West Dundee, IL
4.3

Quality of care - the doctor that was chosen is a bit lax & not as organized as we would like. [name removed] has been helpful with dealing with the dr & keeping on top of meds & changes. We understand its a new facility & everyone needs to get their rhythm. The menu has been the same for months with a daily special offered. The server we have had is in need of appropriate training. Very inefficient & confused. Sweet girl though. Hopefully she will learn the ropes in the next few months. She is inexperienced & needs to work beside an experienced server. The first meal we ate with the parents was amazing. Delicious & professionally plated. A month or so later, not so much. Activities - they aren't participating. More expensive that the last residence they were in (independent living) and offers a slight bit more. Yes I would recommend this community to others- the base staff is friendly, attentive, helpful & kind. There is a high volume of camaraderie amongst the residents. They walk the halls in groups going to & from their activities smiling & chatting. They have a huge end to end table in the dining room that seats about 20+ people & they all sit together. Even the in-laws who are not that social.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home provides lodging to at least two persons who have no familial ties to the administrator. A nursing home community provides its residents with care by on-site nurses. These nurses provide health related services for people who cannot take care of their own needs.

Nursing homes are a helpful and easy care alternative for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will often allow access to persons 55 and older which is unusual for other senior care types. Often times seniors may prefer to live in a nursing home over another type of community due to a mental or physical condition that prevents them from easily accomplishing their standard of living. Types of amenities and services offered at nursing homes can include senior centers, bill pay, intravenous or nutrition therapy, and social and recreational activities. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to to manage your money, be free from abuse and neglect, form or participate in resident groups, and have protections against involuntary transfer or discharge. Many occupants of nursing homes are individuals with behavioral problems, which can include verbal antagonism, resisting help, or an urge to wander. The most common mental condition experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their memory function, and their sense of familiarity with their surroundings, and decision making capacities.
