Trinity Oaks, a CCRC in Salisbury, NC
5.0

My life was rather chaotic when I first visited Trinity Oaks apartments. My husband had Alzheimer's disease, and I was needing help. Through a series of circumstances, he was admitted to the memory unit, a part of Trinity Oaks continuing care sections. I wanted to be near him to visit, so I committed to a 1-bedroom apartment. After he passed away, I realized that this was the place for me to stay. I had no major responsibilities, a pleasant apartment, kind and loving friends, compassionate staff members, plus 2 meals a day provided for me!! There were and are numerous activities to choose from, opportunities for trips, a library filled with books and puzzles, programs with speakers, a pool and gym, and housekeeping and maintenance service. Most of all, I think I and my children feel thankful that I am safe and have access to help if needed. There are many residents in their 90s here who look much younger. I wonder if it's because they have found a "safe landing place" too.

They tend to get friendly and helpful staff. Mom enjoys the interaction. Some food is good and some not so good. Consistency of food quality would be nice.

Independent Living

Independent Living Communities offer seniors a handy harmony between an opportunity to live an independent lifestyle and not having to worry about the basic tasks of housekeeping and chores. Basic needs such as meal planning and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and social activities is maintained, allowing residents the autonomy to use their time as they wish, free from daily responsibilities. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and interests. Within the individual units, residents have access to a private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a companion if they prefer. While policies vary between communities, numerous residences allow pets as well. If residents decide they would like to utilize the services of independent medical providers, they always have the option. There are an assortment of benefits and costs to balance while deciding on an independent living community. It is important to learn if these amenities are included in the care plan: private phone, Waiting list deposit, housekeeping, move-in fee, meals, parking, transportation, and wellness program. The luxuries associated with independent living include fitness center & swimming pool, concierge services, private rental hall, community activities, transportation, laundry service, security guards, and beauty salon & barber shop.
