The Residence at St. Peter’s in River Edge, NJ
4.5

We went with The Senior Residence at Se. Peter Apostle because they offered a comparable level of service for almost $2000 less a month. The facility is smaller with only 20 rooms, it is a former convent so you have to be ok with a small room versus some other places that had large rooms. They have communal bathrooms and showers but there are 4 per hall so she has never had to wait. In terms of services, the other places we saw were not offering much more than this one and were more expensive. Here they offer 3 meals a day and access to coffee and tea throughout the day in a common room. It offers towel and bedsheet cleaning. But they do not have as many activities provided which is ok. The atmosphere is homey and she is comfortable here. I would absolutely recommend that others check it out. Staff are amazing and it doesn't matter who it is, they are super helpful to the residents. You can reach the director at anytime, she even gave me her phone number if we needed anything.

Westchester Center for Independent and Assisted in Yonkers, NY
4.0

My father in law is doing okay here at this community, he is still adjusting, but they are caring for him well. We do feel comfortable with his move to this community, it is a nice place. [Removed] is amazing. She was great to work with, she was very helpful, and understanding. The front desk receptionist isn't very pleasant, but the rest of the staff is very kind, and helpful. His room is well maintained when we visit, but the guest restroom could be better maintained. They have been very accommodating, and this is a community I would recommend.

The Bristal at East Meadow
5.0

I have toured many assisted living before deciding to place my family member here. I am so pleased with the decision! You can tell the management truly cares about us and it stems off into all the other workers. [Name removed] went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and I would recommend this place to anyone looking!

Complete guide to independent living

Learn More About Independent Living in Queens, NY

If you travel to New York City, chances are that at some point, you’ll find yourself in Queens! The largest in size of NYC’s five boroughs, Queens is one of the most culturally diverse places in the world. It’s also home to the both of the Big Apple’s airports, the U.S. Open tennis tournament, Citi Field where the Mets play, and the beaches and seaside villages of the Rockaways. With a seemingly endless amount of art and history museums, music and ethnic food festivals, and unmistakable icons of New York, Queens distinguishes itself as an enchanting world within a city, an urban marvel with a variety of lifestyle options.

Independent living communities — also known simply as retirement communities — in Queens are geared towards seniors who are able to live on their own, without daily assistance, and prefer to live among people their age. This usually means residents are self-sufficient and do not require hands-on care. Think of Queens retirement communities as age-restricted (typically 55+) complexes, which provide organized activities, meal services, and transportation.

Cost of Independent Living in Queens, NY

The median monthly cost of independent living in 2019 was about $3,100 within the New York City metropolitan area and $3,000 in the state of New York. To learn more about the cost of independent living in Queens, contact A Place for Mom’s Senior Living Advisors.
