I'm speaking as an outsider. Going on my mother's opinion. We chose Solstice because of the cleanliness, friendliness of everyone, and cooking her meals, etc. But rent is very high for being understaffed I think. My sister and I have been helping to pay her rent for about a year. They usually seem short-staffed which leads to delays at mealtimes, affects housekeeping, etc. We moved mom in in Nov 2022 and are still unable to get any assistance through Patriot Angels. They ASSURED me before she moved that it would be no problem. Yet we didn't. My mom is moving this month to the retirement section of Complete Care in Groton and will get assistance through the state to pick up the excess that she is not able to pay. My mom made wonderful friends there and would love to stay, but can't afford it now.
I'm pleased with the responsiveness of staff and think the pieces are in place for my aunt to have a good experience. I picked this community because of proximity to family and where my aunt used to live.
Three years ago, my husband [name removed] and I elected to become residents at Stoneridge after researching and visiting five similar communities in New England and Florida. Stoneridge stood out because of its culture of caring, coupled with daily adventurous activities that rival those on a cruise ship. However, as we made the transition to Stoneridge, we had regrets regarding the comfort of familiar friends and environments we had become accustomed to over many years as homeowners. To our pleasant surprise, we have found many new forever friends to add to the old. It sure is fun here with a sense of freedom from the physical and financial cares of home ownership. Plus, Scott loves the bocce and pickleball.

Independent Living Communities offer seniors a handy balance between an independent lifestyle and not having to worry about housekeeping. Basic chores such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and social activities is maintained, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they see fit, free from daily responsibilities. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar ages and backgrounds. Typically consisting of a private living space and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but with none of the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and there will be more time to spend with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies differ between communities, numerous residences allow pets as well. Nursing and health care services can always be arranged for with private care providers if desired. There are a number of benefits and costs to balance when choosing an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are included in the plan: initial assessment fee, transportation, laundry, housekeeping, meals, cable TV, field trips, and parking. The luxuries associated with independent living include security guards, concierge services, private rental hall, game/TV room, transportation, fitness center & swimming pool, golf course, and laundry service.
