My parents are taking full advantage of the best features of Village Shores, the staff and activities. This is a community that actually STAFFS its advertised services. It effectively encourages its residents to exercise, get out, and get together.

Village Shores feels like a friendly community with residents watching out for each other. Staff are also friendly but has a large turnover. There have been some issues with management level turnover for the past several months but hopefully that will settle down soon. The dining room even switched management and there have been some problems with short staff, no food and long wait times. Overall my dad loves this place! I just think that pricing for any good care facility is rather high. If my siblings weren't helping with the cost, my dad could not afford so nice a place. Very sad.

Environment, staff and food are all great! Onboarding was bumpy, and like any place, lots of kinks to work out in the first few months. Chose the facility for its location, price and availability of the room.

I am currently a resident at Village Shores and most everything has been very good for me here. My family, who helped me move in ,said that everyone they met was very welcoming. The staff is especially good. The administration is great. The exercise opportunities and social activities are excellent. I would definitely recommend Village Shores to others.

Village Shores has a broad selection of activities for residents of all stripes and the food is very good. Unfortunately, if your senior needs a lot of care, Village Shores is not for you. The Assisted Living services are limited and expensive. There is no buddy system or friend for hire on staff to sit with lonely, failing seniors. My mother is mostly blind, and there were no accommodations for that. The medical team is extremely limited in helping people who require care. If your senior falls in the lobby, no one is allowed to touch that person except a member of the medical team, and they may be otherwise engaged. The person on the floor has to wait. The assisted living daily check-in is just that and nothing more. They cannot chat with your senior, or bring something from one room to another without charging a fee. The accounting dept did not charge the correct monthly payment once during the five months our mother lived there. VS is great for healthy seniors.

The staff there are very helpful, friendly and get back you in a timely manner. They have made this transition smooth for our father. Village Shores is located in a convenient location with banks, grocery stores, and restaurants near by. It is exactly what we needed for our 90 year old father.

Dining program has problems. Few residents seem to eat regularly in the dining room. The Bistro (alternative food source) is often not open. Van service for appointments, shopping etc, is very limited in the number of residents they can accommodate, and Village Shore is a large building.

After a full month "transitioning" Mom and Dad are beginning to attend activities. Dad LOVED the excursion to Orchestra Hall and he's attended several in-house events. He's a big fan of the workout room. The fact that it's staffed is a giant plus. They have had one praiseworthy meal, but they more often comment about the mediocre ones. The Pizza Luca next door gets some of their business. An unexpected benefit is the Chase Bank across the parking lot. The bank agents have occasionally brought documents to sign right to the lobby of Village Shores! A nice symbiosis. We love having Mom and Dad close by. We can take our grandson in his stroller for quick visits!

Village Shores is a friendly clean facility. Most of the staff is very personable. There have been a few billing mistakes (charges for services not requested) that I have not been able to clear up with the billing staff. So make sure you review you monthly statement closely. The prices are a bit high, but are in line with other facilities in the area. They offer one-on-one PT for residents but there is a waiting list due to lack of staff. The nursing staff is hard to get a hold of if you are a family member calling to check on your loved one. Generally they do call back but not for several hours, and only if you leave a couple messages. The dining room offers a small variety of food, along with daily specials. But the food seems to be overly salted and given that this is a senior facility, that is concerning. But my father loves this place - the help and care he is getting along with the new friends he has made. And as long as he is getting the care he needs and is happy, I will continue to keep him here. I should add that they are setting up a 'family committee' to influence the quality of service for the residents and I have joined that group. I think they are trying to improve any areas that are lacking and this is a good step in that direction. We will see how this goes.

The cleaning lady comes in once a week and she'll vacuum, clean the toilet, sweep, etc.. My friend remarked on how clean Village Shores is. I love eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner while speaking with people who live here too. I love hanging out after meals and having conversation with one another. I'm in a wheelchair, so care is very important. They help me with showering and they never crash. They'll wheel me down and back to both lunch and dinner. When or if I use my walker, they're right behind me with my wheelchair just in case I need to sit down. Their care is beautifully planned; they have physical therapy and occupational therapy right there in the building. You don't have to go anywhere, they will come right to you. The staff are very helpful, they'll help me fill out my monthly care claims. The kitchen staff are very loving and helpful, we know most of them by name. I think the food is very good because I don't have to prepare it. Breakfast is wonderful, you can get what you want. Lunch is good too, but I'm not too impressed with dinner. I'll go down when I like what they're offering like taco salad, shrimp, or salmon - most of the meals are well worth the [price removed]. They have a tremendous amount of activities as well. If you're a shy person, you don't have to worry because the people are really friendly. We know each other by name after a little while. The community has Wi-Fi and Comcast so you can watch TV as much as you want, I often use my iPad to follow the news. They have a lot of groups like Bridge Club, bible study, and nondenominational church services. We trade books with each other from the wonderful library. People will leave books on the free table and my friend will bring me things because she remembers that I love history and reading about Christianity. So she's a great resource and she's very cheerful. I am in assisted living, these wonderful ladies do my laundry and I wouldn't be able to do that myself. People can sign up for as much as they want to, based on their budget. So for each thing, they can tell you what it cost for the whole month. They have a very good setup for letting you customize your package - so to speak. They also give you your own mailbox, so when the mail comes in everyday you'll use your own key to open your access your mail. Another other cool thing is you can go outside and sit on the awning that has cushioned chairs and a swinging chair. You can go right along the sidewalk to the pharmacy and clinic. It's so cool because you don't have to drive, you can completely live here without having to drive. Of course you have the wonderful Woodlake Nature Center that can be reach via sidewalk, as well as the Richfield Lake. People will go to look at wildlife and come back with the wonderful things they've seen. The community also has their own van that will take you grocery shopping once a week and they'll also take people to their appointments if they're on a Tuesday. I believe it's included with your monthly cost because you can just go down and sign up. There's a lot of pervasion for the residents, you can have your own parking spot too. They have Friday and Saturday night movies - the activities director picks the movie, but people can bring their own DVDs and ask for those to be included, so its a pretty wide range of possibility. [name removed] and [name removed] are apart of our staff, but they're also musicians. They'll do impromptu concerts with folk music and guitar; they always pick songs that people my age can sing along to. [name removed] has a class in mythology and there's an opera club too. When I first got here they showed a video of one of the famous operas, there's all kinds of cultural enrichment here. There's a hair salon you can sign up for and on Mondays one of the activities directors will paint your finger nails. You can also go the Red Nails and Spa within the Marketplace Plaza (via sidewalk) and get your nails and toes done. Village Shores has a great location!

I really enjoy all of the other residents here at Village Shores, everyone is super friendly. I do not get to participate in the activities as much as I would want due to my health but I do really enjoy their movie nights. It is pretty expensive but based on my experience so far with the Village Shores community I would recommend them to other families.

This is a very friendly atmosphere. My loved one enjoys all of the activities they have provided. Some of the activities she likes is bingo and their exercise class. They do special events like after Valentines Day. They do one big event every month. They decorate their doors as a contest during the holidays. They take pictures and put it in their newsletter at the end of the month. My loved one really enjoys the meals along with the choices during each meal.

They're doing a very good job so far. Everything seems to be going well. I'm satisfied with the care my loved one is receiving. I think at any facility like this you have to watch and be observant, but for the most part things have gone well. If I have a question, they answer it right away. My loved one tells me the food is very good, and they had steak and lobster dinner the other night. They have quite a few activities as well.

The negative was that they had difficulty with hospice and did not know how to interact with them, which made it really hard for us. The lack of communication was the biggest issue. Overall due to our experience I would probably not recommend Village Shores to other families looking.

This is a great community for your aging parent. My loved one had to press the call button and the staff were there immediately to assist them. My loved one doesn't care for the meal options. The bistro is better than the dining room.

Our family had an in person tour and Village Shores is close to a lot of natural areas which we thought was nice, but we just did not resonate with it.
I would recommend this community to others based on my experience, and they have something for everyone at Villiage shores. The community is neat, clean and the staff is friendly, kind, and very helpful.

A Place for Mom has scored Village Shores 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
