This was a great community. They had friendly staff. The community was further from family than we wanted.
My loved ones have been at the Villages for over 5 years and the facility and care have had significantly declined. As more facilities have opened the caring staff members have left due to the bad and lack of leadership. We have considered leaving MANY times, just don't want to put them through a move. There were considerable medication errors, and they now give us many excuses as to why they CANNOT do things such as allow us to use their wheelchair on return to the facility after a hospitalization. An example of the fake caring occurred this weekend. We brought our loved ones back in the evening and expressed vocally that we would appreciate help. The 2 at the front desk and the aid "Standing There" just looked at us as if we had asked in a language they did not understand. We were left to have our father sit on the walker as we pushed him. This was very unsafe, so we left him sitting in the hall to go and get our wheelchair from our room. 2 aids approached us in the hall to ask us how he was doing after they walked past him without saying a word to him. Really do you think elderly are invisible? As much as we do not want to put them thru a move, if there are not drastic changes soon we will need to make that decision. When we moved in, I would never have imagined that this could happen.

Very niice facility if you just need a retirement home. My mother was there and eventually needed assisted living. I would NOT recommend it for assisted living. The apartments are not wheelchair/waller friendly, she could not easily navigate her walker through the bedroom and bathroom doors. There is one nurse over all the assisted living patients, she is very hard to communicate with if you can ever get a hold of her. They do not have a call button the patients can wear around their neck, my mother fell quite often and would lay on the floor until someone would find her as she didn't have the call box in her hand when she fell. By the time I moved her to a private assisted living facility she was covered in cuts and bruises from falling. If your loved one needs a high level of assisted living this is NOT your place. On e positive note, the aids were very nice and kind to my mother.

On over building I’d give it a five, but for the rooms I’d give it a four. They’re very friendly and welcoming, which is just the most I really have to say. The food is good. There are path ways on the grounds. Parking is a little tight.

We toured this option when we were looking into options for our loved one. We really liked the look of this community, and it was one on our short list. What weighed against this one was that the residents didn't appear to be as active and social as what our loved one was hoping for. But otherwise the staff were all very friendly, and the facility itself was well kept and clean.

If you’re looking for a cozy, beautifully-appointed residential facility that is home to friendly seniors who do not require a high level of assistance, this is it. IF, HOWEVER, YOUR SENIOR REQUIRES ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES OR SKILLED CAREGIVERS IN WHOM YOU CAN BE CONFIDENT, THE VILLAGE AT OCOTILLO IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. Apartments are spacious and inviting but NOT EQUIPPED FOR THE DISABLED. Installing more grab bars requires approval from management and residents pay equipment and labor. Showers do not have seats unless provided by the previous tenant. Sinks, faucets, microwave, laundry cannot be reached by the wheelchair-bound. Transportation is limited. Caregivers, who are NOT closely supervised, do not have medical training, and turnover of the small nursing staff is higher than the industry standard. Staff is poor at communicating medical issues or providing actionable assistance. Great for independents. Poor for those needing daily assistance.

Layout of property is especially nice having everything under one roof, yet accessible to outside parking is ideal. Also available progressive assistance great.

This facility was warm, inviting and fit the needs of our mother. The food was delicious in the restaurant as well. Our mother connected with staff and management and made the selection immediately to commit.
