Mom has taken advantage of many of the amenities at The Gardens. She has loved going to concerts and shopping. Her biggest complaint is the dining room. I have eaten with her several times. The service is rather slow and if you dine late, they will be out of several dishes. There is a lack of places for someone to sit who doesn't want to eat with 5-6 people. She doesn't hear well and lots of people have their "groups" and don't allow a new person to sit with them. They also charge for To Go meals. Food is good. The question you are not asking is maintenance. When mom moved in the cable tv/ cable was not working. NO ONE assisted with the move. They gave her a key and that was that. They were "upgrading " Cox cable but we did not see this in writing or were informed. Her ice machine didn't work. There were no instructions how to use the in room stackable washer and dryer. Lots of digital settings that were unclear to us. The blinds on the sliding door are very difficult for my 5 foot mother to operate. I even struggle with their massive weight. The pool has been an ongoing issue. Lots of bird poop in the pool or on the pool deck. The filter /heater also hasn't been working. We are hoping they will fix this soon. We (and I mean mostly me), was left to determine on my own why mom didn't have cable tv. She was missing a cable box on the wall. Also discovered the water wasn't hooked up to the fridge so the ice didn't work. If we're in charge at "The Gardens at Octillo ", I would offer an orientation for new people. I would offer a quiet dining area. I would not put things on the menu that don't exist. They say there is late night snack of cottage cheese, fruit etc...but this is not true. No one knows why it's listed at the bottom of the weekly menus. As they say in the military, "They need to tighten up their ship". Value for money maybe a 4. We are waiting to see if they improve soon. Many residents have been there for years and say they've tried other places and The Gardens is their best experience.... Read more

Response from Gardens at Ocotillo Senior Living
May 30, 2024Hi Customer, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to review Gardens at Ocotillo. We are thrilled to hear about your positive experience with our staff. We hope you have a great day!
It's the element of regiment and routine that I found comforting. They could improve by having a nurse practitioner along with a physician that can make necessary adjustments readily. Because they did have an NP that would see mom routinely, but it was more fluff than substance. And in her wind down, they didn't seem to appreciate I chose my own hospice care team to see her through her final weeks. Hope this helps. I saw quite a deep decline that may not have happened if they at least had a skilled practitioner on site. Her last weeks were eminent. Overall I found Gardens well above average. I did, however, find the cost too steep near her end. I found that overall Gardens of Ocotillo is a good community for a senior, but isn't recommended for individuals with a more progressive stage of Alzheimers and Physical Disabilities.

May 15, 2024Hello customer, We appreciate your positive feedback about your experience at Gardens at Ocotillo. We take pride in serving our residents and their families, and if you have any further questions, please let us know.
What a bright, clean, amazing community! All of the staff and residents we met on our tour were so warm and friendly. The apartments were so much larger than others we had seen and the floorplan really worked for us. Everything feels positive and friendly!

April 25, 2024Hi Theresa, we are happy to hear about your good experience. We appreciate the positive feedback. We hope you have a great day!
The tour was terrific. The guy showing us around was great and I enjoyed the environment. This probably would have been our first choice, but by the time I looked and took my parents back to look a few months later, their pricing structure had significantly increased and they had reduced their amenities.

February 22, 2023Hi Customer, that’s wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Have a wonderful day!
The experience has disappointing for the family and our loved one. They are short staffed overall. There are limitations on choices for the residents meals and quality is no up to par. Housekeeping they are supposed to come in every other week. The family or loved one needs to call to make sure this service is getting done. We were not told about different options such as limitations of food, that guests such as family isn't able to eat in the dining room and this is still going on. This was disappointing to find out after the fact of my loved one moving in. The staff communication with the family has been okay. There have been times that I've not received a phone call back and I realize they are busy and short staffed.

Was an extremely nice place with lovely facility. Very nice and very well maintained.
The biggest issue I have is the billing and the care level they want to place my loved one at. I feel this is because of a new nurse in the memory care and they tried to raise the care level for my loved one without it being justified. Everything else we are happy with. Other than the billing the communication with the staff has been okay. The family can sign up to have their loved one seen by the community doctor rather than having their own doctor continue the care. It wasn't as quickly as I anticipated.

Our tour at Gardens at Ocotillo was good, and I thought it was a very nice place. They just didn’t have an apartment available during our timeline to move.
The person giving the tour was great. We were looking at memory care and that portion of the facility is SO small. All of the residents looked crammed and the rooms were very tiny.
Do NOT send your loved one to this community. The staff were incompetent and the executive director was even worse. They could not handle a patient who had Alzheimer’s- sent him away after two weeks. They memory care unit only takes those who are drugged enough to not cause any issues or challenges. And trying to get the executive director to follow up on anything was like pulling teeth. No empathy to the resident’s situation. They are strictly a business. Go to Parkland or a dedicated memory care facility if your loved one has Alzheimer’s.

April 28, 2022Dear Jennifer, we are appreciative of all feedback and work diligently to address any concerns brought to our attention. Working with our families as we navigate difficult situations is important to us. There is much about this particular situation that is misrepresented in your review. In situations where we must recommend a resident seek other placement, it is not one we make lightly. While understanding the frustration felt by family, our primary responsibility in all situations is the health and safety of every resident as well as compliance with state and local regulations. We take great umbrage with your assertion that other residents in our memory care neighborhood are "drugged", it is an untrue statement. A primary element of our approach is minimal use of medication when the sole use is to reduce functional ability of a resident related to behaviors. This aside, there are behaviors that cannot be managed and create risk of safety to others; and in these situations, difficult decisions must be made. It is unfortunate that you have chosen to demean the incredible work of our team members in the manner elected, they work hard every day to ensure residents receive the very best care possible. We do hope that your loved one, you and your family are doing well and wish you the very best in the future.
Our family had an in person tour and this community was very nice, this would be a great place to live
I toured this property alone and then again with my father as a potential independent living facility for dad and his companion. The Gardens are very conveniently located and everyone was especially helpful. They seemed to really care about us and the residents. We even had a very nice apartment reserved. Regrettably, my dad's companion chose to live elsewhere.

We chose Gardens because of the convenient location, the value for the money was pretty good comparing to others in the area, and I liked the layout of the facility. My loved one got a smaller apartment than she was supposed to get which was disappointing. I do think they could improve on the activities provided for residents, they are taking all of the covid precautions but there do not seem to be many things going on. There did seem to be a lot of things going on before covid. My mom loves the food and is really enjoying the meals. Overall I would recommend to others looking.

September 24, 2021Thank you, for the great review of The Gardens at Ocotillo Senior Living!
As a local professional I toured this facility so that I could recommend it to clients with a need. This facility was so friendly and professional. The residents were very active and you could sense a strong feeling of community. I met with the Executive Director and some of her staff. They spent a good amount of time sharing with me very helpful information about the services and care offered here. The Executive Director was very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone locally looking for Assisted Living Care, Independent Living Care and/or Memory care.
