The assisted living places that I had spoke to would not take [name removed] because of his ostomy. The nurse at the Woods said they would take him. I was very hesitant but my family wanted him to be in a place as nice as the Woods. So we hired movers to take our beds & lazy boys (they do not have furniture at the Woods.). and clothes, supplies, towels, utensils for eating or drinking in the room, bedding were moved there. The staff consisted of a nurse & a few young women who were very friendly but seemed very new to assisted living. I still wondered if the Staff was able to care for him. I was visiting [name removed]on [date removed]. He had very bad back pain. The next morning I found that he had been sent to Froedtert & it was questionable if the Wood would take him back. We didn’t know what to do. So we hire movers & moved him out while he was in hospital. His room was cleared. Then I received a bill for Dec. rent because contract stated that I must give 30 days notice before vacating.

Response from The Woods
August 13, 2024This was an unfortunate situation. We assessed Richard at a rehab community and determined we were able to accommodate his care needs. Unbeknownst to us, the rehab community and the family, his health care power of attorney was activated during his hospital stay before he went to rehab. We were not made aware of this out until he was readmitted to the hospital for an acute medical need, and they provided us with the activation form as we were ready to take him back. Due to our state licensing, we are unable to admit someone with an activated POA. We would have definitely been able to accommodate his care needs, including his ostomy. We now have over 25 assisted living residents, some of whom have high care needs, receiving our exceptional care.
Very friendly and caring staff

My experience thus far has been quite interesting. Each day brings on a new experience of learning and living as we talk and visit with the residents and staff. There is always something to learn. I remember the first time I listened to a music program of old songs - "oldies." I was happy to sing along remembering each word. Then as I remembered the words, I could not believe my mother let me sing along to the suggestive songs. But then I became a mother and let me kids sing along to the suggestive songs. I now have time to reflect on my life - good or bad - in a place where I am treated with respect and kindness as I continue to live.

A Place for Mom has scored The Woods 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
