Review for The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living

Although The Ridge is one of the best senior living communities in the Salt Lake Valley, valley, it's far from perfect. The on-site medical staff is minimal, and EMTs are needed more often than I expected for minor health events. The cost is high considering lower than expected staff presence and high staff turnover.

My loved one is currently a resident at The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living and most everything has been very good for her at this facility so far. The facility is very clean. The staff are all very positive and kind. The move in process was acceptable. The care services and value for cost are okay. The activities are good. Overall, I would recommend The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living to others.

Would recommend

I believe they have the same staffing issues all facilities have. Sometime requests for assistance take 20 minutes. Some staff are nicer and more patient than others. Dining room can be slow with service sometimes.

Quality community

We are still getting used to the nature of memory care and all that comes along with it, but overall The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living community is a really nice place and the staff really do the best that they can. We would recommend them to other families based on our current experience .

It's really a great layout and we liked that my mom got a room on the main floor and the size of the room is great. It is clean and the staff is friendly. They seem understaffed sometimes. But mostly they do good. My mom loves the food. Especially compared to other places she has been. My mom isn't very mobil so she doesn't go to the events or excursions that much but we wanted her to have options instead of a really boring place. The price seems really high. It was more than other places when we were looking but we've had 3 price raises since she moved in. Her care level is a 3 now but she doesn't even need that much more help than before. My mom has [medical need removed] and she is struggling with weakness and shaking. The [date removed] she was hospitalized and they took her off some of the medication her doctor and hospice were recommending and she has improved but that's when they upped her care level. They say she is a two person transfer now but they never send two people in the room. She transfers by herself and only needs one person to watch. During the time my mom was so weak, I tried calling the head nurse [name removed] to discuss my moms condition and she was very slow to call me back. She is always in meetings it seems like. Her hospice nurse has been good but has dropped the ball a few times too. She is doing better. So I like the place but now the price my mom is paying seems way too high. She only eats twice a day and doesn't really do the activities and so it's starting to not be a great fit. I am thinking of looking into other places. I think her rent is [amount removed] a month now.

The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living review

So far it has been a nice and day experience for our loved one - we have not been here long but it is so much better. There are no temporary staff here, all of the staff that do work at The Ridge are very knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's care. They actually have activities as well.

The Ridge Cottonwood would have been my 2nd choice. The environment was superior by far compared to other places we toured. They also had solid activities. The food seemed quite good. I didn’t get to meet many staff though.

Great Care Staff

I have a couple of little nit-picky things (clothing disappearing, random people in different rooms), but I understand that comes with dealing with people with mental issues. I've had no major concerns. The care staff are a hoot - I love those guys. I don't get along with the administrative staff quite as well as I do with the caregivers. But everybody seems to be doing the best they can. My loved one seems to enjoy the food. And the activities are great. I've even joined in on a couple of those myself.

Overall excellent place

The Ridge Cottonwood has just been wonderful to work with from start to finish. They had a room available the same day when we needed it and they were super accommodating. They went right to work and got everything taken care of by 5 o'clock that night. They have been this way ever since, they have their hands full but they do a great job and they take really good care of him. Some cases of covid showed up in February and they shut it down and I was not going to be able to visit him. I asked them the next day if I could come in the backway since his room was by the door and they let me do that everyday to help him since he was still upset. We have had many family members visit and they always comment about how clean it is and how great it smells. They always have plenty of activities going on for the residents although my loved one does not participate much. I would absolutely recommend the facility others looking.

My Review of The Ridge Cottonwood Senior Living

This was a very nice community with engaged staff to assist in engagement with the residents. The rooms are smaller, and the price was higher than we wanted.

I would recommend

We chose The Ridge because of the openness of the facility. You walk in and it opens up into a big atrium and we really liked that. The layout of the rooms were much better here as well rather than some that we looked into. It is well kept and they have all updated decor throughout the building. My mom really enjoys the meals here, they are chef prepared. I would recommend to others looking.
