I think that the employee need to be more trained on dementia an how to care for them I know this a bad disease but the people of still human an need respect. An I know there not enough employees for the amount of people but when I was there were 3 employees there were 10 patients in the main room when I would get there before lunch people should be checked a little more often for there hygiene my uncle had been setting in urine from after lunch to dinner an then he gotten an infection. as far as the food should be realistic common food not 4 pieces of shrimp an salad I'm sure shrimp is expensive but for people who don't know what there eating as far as the meds we believe he was given to substation meds.

Do not put your loved one in this facility. We only had 3 good months in Year 2023 before the facility staff fell apart and care declined to a dangerous level. We eventually pulled our mom out and it was already too late. Our beautiful mom, [name removed] passed the following month on [date removed]. Behavior Issues of a loved one will only be medicated by this facility until the medication makes them a zombie. Staff to Resident Ratio is inadequate and I don't care what the State guidelines are and this facility only cares about profit. Ignore the Activity Calendar on the wall it is for show only. Do not believe a thing in your research meeting with sales -- however if the facility was really run like said in the sales pitch.. it would be a great place but its not. Again, not all staff were uncaring. Staff are underpaid. Lots of chitchatting going on and not much social interaction with the residents who just sit in the main room. The Phoenix Company owns this facility

I would like to see a higher ratio of staff to patients. However; in todays job market everyone is understaffed so I take that into consideration. Obviously the patients in memory care often are not willing or able to participate in activities due to their mental state but more encouragement to do so would be nice.

Overall it is a nice place. After mom was there a while, we could tell some of what we were told at the interview was not true. We had to move my mom quickly and didn't have a lot of time to look at other facilities. They seemed genuine there so we just went with them. It is a beautiful facility.

My loved one is a resident at The Retreat at Fishersville and overall this facility is a nice place and we're generally happy with the situation for our loved one. I think staffing might be an issue. The main public areas are quite clean and well kept. That said, I often find my loved one's bathroom floor sticky and wonder when it was last cleaned. My loved one has no complaints about the food, but a new Chef just started this week so we will see. Communication with the family has been good. Sometimes communication from primary care or specialists to either The Retreat or home health care isn't great and someone needs to stay on top of things. The medicine management is well run. Lastly, The Retreat only offers rides to appointments one day a week. Other times it is pay for a ride, wait, and return trip. Not thrilled with that. If the expectation is that The Retreat transports, it might be disappointing.

Great facilities and staff and management all around. Very well run, patient and knowledgeable nursing staff, very clean rooms, upkeep in general is phenomenal, good communication from all levels of the team. I would absolutely recommend The Retreat at Fishersville to other families.

Response from The Retreat at Fishersville
June 16, 2023Matt R, thank you for your kind review; we are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at The Retreat at Fishersville! If you ever need anything else from us, please feel free to give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Very good facility, staff, and activities. Very appropriate care for most, especially at early stages of the disease. However, tragically ironic that this page links to a "Related Article" about "Dealing with Dementia Behavior" where one of the tips is to consider Memory Care but if a resident exhibits such a behavior they are immediately kicked out with no place to go but the Emergency Room where they are left in limbo, social workers scrambling to find care. This after having been a "staff favorite" resident. More appropriately, family members would be told psychiatric medications would be required immediately to prevent a re-occurrence of this behavior, which happened once and the moving out was required to be next-day. Based on this, cannot recommend this place to anyone, as dementia is very unpredictable.

The whole staffing stands out to us at this facility. Friendliness is great in the memory unit, wasn't good at first until they saw that I was going to make sure these people were getting the care they should. Activities are good. As far as meals, some food is appealing but others are not. One day my loved one had 4 little pieces of shrimp and a salad. I don't think too many people eat shrimp. Another thing, it's expensive.

This was a good community. There was no doctor on staff and this was the drawback. The ratio of staff to residents was too high.

My tour with The Retreat at Fishersville was amazing. The facility is very nice and I just love all of the staff there, they are so accommodating and wonderful. I am actually planning to head over there this week to get my loved one on the list to move in.
This community was okay but we did not care for it as much as the other community that we were interested in.
It is a great place, I would stay here. The friendliness of the staff makes it a great community. The community tried to assist my loved one with their eating and delivered meals to my loved one's room.
