Brookdale Staunton

The staff at Brookdale Staunton were very helpful, especially at move-in with all of the logistics and they gave helpful info.

Honestly they could improve on everything. She only stayed there for about 9 months, she hated it....when I visited I saw the food they prepared and was really saddened and felt what they advertised was 100% false There were a lot of issues, mostly small but they add up. .I would recommend for a person if they have family close by that can provide most of the attention and nutrition needed...but for an isolated person without a really good support system I would not recommend. Yes it is a very nice place, but they aren't currently capable of doing what they advertise....mom has been out of there for almost a year now, so I don't know if there have been improvements or not

Overall, I have been fairly satisfied with Brookdale Staunton. I was recently very concerned about staffing, but this has improved. I was also concerned about the increase in cost at the beginning of the year, but my dad's care plan was revised (considering he is seen by VA and Hospice staff) so my rate is back down to a reasonable rate.

I still think it is a good choice. Always places to improve. Lack of help has created some of the issues.The layout of their room and the feeling when shown around made the difference.

I have been in the facility every day since we moved in. They have taken care of them well, and they have developed a relationship with my parents in a very positive manner. The whole process of including the family in the transition has been amazing. They've been open and honest and caring, and all steps of our family transition.

Mostly clean some days the bathroom looks like a truck stop bathroom. The staff members do have lots of smiles. When it comes to care services, they are suppose to check on her every two hours. Sometimes she will fall and it will be 4 hours before found. Items are broken or lost or stolen such as her silverware, lamps. Staff vaporizer e-cig found left in room. When we scouted Brookdale we were shown a great menu. As soon as we move her in the kitchen closed due to water damage, so that big menu is now a sandwich or usually a marinara style dish. We know the circumstances, but we are still paying the premium price for a lot less then we were shown. My grandmother reads and watches TV. She does not take part in the activities, however once again we pay thousands of dollars for something we don't use. Overpriced, well presented but in practice kind of scammy in my grandmother's words. Our experience hasn't been great. A lot of great talk, but once you pay you get whatever you get.

I recommend doing your research so you know what to expect. We've had a very positive experience at Brookdale Staunton so far. I feel very comfortable with the staff. All of them are friendly, from the head nurse, to the lady who runs it, to the care staff. Not only are they friendly, but they're also very consistent, which I appreciate. Recently a bunch of pipes broke with the deep freeze that occurred in the area, but they accommodated food and other needs well, as best they could. And my loved one feels comfortable there, which is the main thing.

Just like every other place right now they are short staffed which we do not blame them for, we do like and appreciate just how much try to encourage our loved one to get involved with things.

What sticks out most to us about Brookdale Staunton is the friendliness of the staff, you can tell that they truly care about the residents.

I think it's a nice place overall. The staff are engaging and appear to care about the people who live there. I think there's a lot of info they could be a little more forthcoming with that would help navigate certain areas of the experience. We kind of had to figure out some things as we went along that would have been smoother from the beginning had we known right away. Of all the places we looked at in northern Virginia, it was the number one place we saw - in terms of the facility physically and the people. We definitely felt comfortable moving our mom in.

I do not have anything bad to say about Brookdale Staunton, they were great! My aunt got in touch with them and the staff was very responsive to her needs. They scheduled an interview right away and did not drag their feet. My loved one had a single room and it fit his needs perfectly. He loved all of the activities that they had provided here. Our family would definitely recommend Brookdale to others.

I would tell others that once Brookdale tells you what you will get, is not what you will receive. The community did allow us to speak to them with our concerns. There were some wonderful aides; however, there were some other aides who didn't give the attention to my loved one or other residents that I observed. Also, there was no internal communication with the different shifts. The family ended up having to put signs up in our loved one's room to let the staff know what not to do with our loved one. The staff wasn't cleaning our loved one's room at all. There was some times that the call button would take 7 minutes, and other times it would take 80 minutes to respond to. The administrative staff were very open to all of our concerns. This would be a good community for a loved one who is more active, than a loved one that needs more care.

Brookdale Staunton is a smaller facility. The staff really listened to my situation and everything that was going on with my mother at the time.

They have great activities there and our loved one is really enjoying playing bingo. The value for cost right now is efficient. Our only issues is that we wish they had more of a consistent sign in and sign out sheet. Sometimes people and come and go during the entire day and the staff will have no idea where they went or what time they left.

The staff is very friendly. There are lots of activities for the residents to enjoy. They have food that is like home cooked. They work with the residents and the doctors to get the medication correct for the residents when needed. It would be nice to have a suggestion box for the residents to use. [name removed] is amazing to work with, and goes above and beyond for the residents.

WE chose Brookdale because of the location, it is outside the city but in a rural area. It is a nice, quiet safe place. The value for the money is great as well. We also liked the ability to move her into memory care when the time comes and not have to move facilities. My mom has a studio and it is quite large, we were very happy with it. My uncle mentioned security is not really tight so that could be improved. They are very good about covid guidelines. I would recommend to others looking.

We chose Brookdale Staunton after looking into several places because it had that homey feeling that my mother has always had. I also liked the personnel and how they handle everything. I felt she would be the happiest here and she is. She absolutely loves it. They have been able to get her out of her room and participate in some of the activities they provide which is amazing for me because she can be a loner. The best part about the community is the individual care of the residents that the staff members provide. They have had no cases of COVID here. I would most definitively recommend the facility. I wish they provided medicaid because my mother does not want to leave, but we are going to have to move her.

I would tell my friends that it is very clean place. I haven't meet staff that isn't friendly, caring. The staff are very attentive to my loved one. I feel comfortable with my loved one there. They have bingo, auctions, banana splits, shopping trips, and more as far as activities go. The activities calendar is pretty full as well.
