I give my move to the Oaks of Clearwater from River Commons Port Charlotte 2 years ago immediately after Hurricane Ian. With some good aspects. [name removed], second floor nurse, was excellent. The location of the facility was good. There were some standouts, but there were a lot of people that were just not happy to be there and were not kind to my husband. A lot of the staff were not qualified to handle my husband's health challenges. My husband's dietary needs were rarely honored. [name removed] did not participate in many activities. it is good to note that there are two elevators for the entire place... and there are 14 floors I think. And the dining room is on the first floor. Not great.

My mom who is living at The Oaks loves it there. She is in memory care and they keep her clean (no stains on her clothes) and she doesn't smell like urine!! They change her often. The Oaks is the best thing I did for my mom!!!

Dining room is understaffed and food is average at best. Certain areas could use more deep cleaning. My mother in law is in independent living currently but will be transitioning to memory care at some point. We may move her to another facility for that since I've found out they never let the memory care residents outside.

Dining service wait, additional housekeeping staff, site clearance of 29 two story villas with no information as to future parking and access, elevator repair/adequacy, outside lighting are all areas of improvement. As a early advocate and influencer for senior/assisted living in Oklahoma 1976-2008 I see positive signs of dramatic improvements in the Oaks since I moved from Port Charlotte after Hurricane Ian in October, 2022. The Oaks is on the path of reinvestment and reformulation of their ALS business model.

We toured The Oaks of Clearwater during our search for Independent Living for our loved one and it was okay. However, the facility felt very institutional to us. We decided to continue with our search and to keep looking.
Our family had an in person tour with The Oaks of Clearwater and we really liked the tour experience as well as the community and would of been a nice fit for our loved one but we just decided to go with another community because it felt more like home.
If you care for your loved one, this is not the place for them. My wife entered the facility in the middle of [date removed] and was admitted to the skilled unit on the 2nd floor. There are four beds in a room. Not a good health practice. Some of the staff is helpful and some I found in the break area using cell phones for long periods many times. I also noticed that at times when the food trays were placed on the table, sometimes the food was not warm. The quality of food is not good. I noticed that some of the staff would take the leftover food that the patients did not eat.The rooms and hallways are not that clean. On one evening there was a flood in my the room my wife was staying, The aids placed a bed sheet on the floor and said maintenance will look sometime the next day. In the middle of [date removed] [name removed] (a wannabe social worker) is not capable for her position My wife had many falls and half many were not reported on record. Do not send your loved one here.

I toured The Oaks at Clearwater and overall the experience was poor. I feel like the overall appearance of the facility was poor. The facility was not clean and smelled, it was also very dark inside.
Elevator issue's constantly. Mail is always lost, never makes it into their mailbox, even after multiple complaints. Aides aren't always available due to being understaffed. Dryers are taking much longer to dry residents clothes now. House keeping is suppose to come daily but has only is only coming 3 days a week lately. Nobody seems to know who is responsible for what. Always have reconfirm issues to be handled/fixed. A lot of promises were made up front but after move in were quickly forgotten. But management seems to be striving to get better. The Memory Care floor (which my parents live on) has had a lot disturbances from the amount of unstable residents. Management has yet to come up with any solutions. Montessori program promised, still has not been implemented and we have been paying since September 2022. Understaffed. Too much salt, oil, breaded foods. Need more healthy choices. Ranges from too bland to over spiced. Need more middle of the road. Activities - 3 stars but to be fair my parents aren't very big on participating. For value for cost large floorplan is a big factor in this response.

I was not impressed by what we saw on our tour at The Oaks. The facility was terrible and not clean. Staff were few and far between. The entire building was seven floors, and they only had one working elevator the day we were there. This was not a place I would want to put my loved one.
On our tour, they presented themselves as being very nice. But my mother-in-law had a dog, which she was told they had the capability to accommodate. However. when she brought her dog in to walk around with her, they immediately wanted her to put it away. Apparently she would be allowed to have it in her room, but that was it. They would not allow her to walk in the front door with it. All of which I thought was very strange. Their facility was one of my top choices until I heard that. . .
We toured this community and it was beautiful. The rooms were very nice and had a great view. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions but the community was way too big and it felt really impersonal.
My parents just moved here last month because of their Couples Special and so far they are really happy with The Oaks.. We've been worried about them being at home so we're also happy they're here. They say they like the views and that the staff all know them by name already.. we're just happy they're happy

The Oaks of Clearwater is a great place to live. The building is right on the water, and the views from my room are awesome. There is always something fun going on at the building thanks to [name removed] and the activities team. I love playing corn hole, and our monthly birthday parties.. I have made some of the best friends here. My family convinced me to come here, against my initial wish. It was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The Oaks is my home forever.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
