It is a great place, My father really likes it. The food is really good and he likes the entertainment. Convenient parking is very limited? It has been good. They have some very strict rules about keeping OTC meds in the room. His doctor had to do an order so Dad could keep simple OTC meds in his room. We got it worked out finally.... Read more

Our tour with The Montera was very impressive, we were just looking for a facility where the staff spoke Spanish so it would be easier for my loved one to adapt.

The Montera is a beautiful place to live. Everything was kept well and I didn't have any bad experiences here. The food was delicious, and had a good variety of options for the residents to choose from. Some of the activities included poker, outdoor trips, games, arts and crafts, and more for the residents to choose from.

I have told many people about this community. this is a group of really skilled and really kind people. they go out of their was to make my mom feel welcomed and make her feel like she is part of the community. She is so happy and she is really thriving. She is a lot better than she was being on her own. They have activities like happy hour, a counsel for the community, manicures and pedicures, and they also offer in room physical therapy. My loved one has also made friends here. People were out and about and it just gave us that feel good feeling. They congregate and all interact with each other.

The staff are very friendly. We're comfortable with our loved one's placement in memory care. We feel they have handled Covid appropriately. We're now moving another loved one into independent care there.

I was able to do an in person tour and the community was very nice, the staff were very pleasant but I was looking more for independent living not assisted living or memory care.
Our family was able to do an in person tour and The Montera is a great community, this was one of our top choices. Unfortunately they only had an upstairs apartment, and the other community we checked out had a first floor apartment with a yard which we felt would be best for our loved one.
Very nice people

The staff here are nice and friendly. I think communication needs to be improved, all the communication was always with activities or on covid, but it was not separated so we did not know what was going on on the memory care side. Our experience has been gated with covid because they did have an outbreak so I could not get a good picture of what was going on. My dad has Lewy body dementia, so if your loved one has that I would not recommend them for individuals who have that since it is so different than Alzheimer's.

We really like it here. The biggest standout to me is the community adapts well to what the needs are of the family and residents are. No matter what stage of health your loved one is in, they have a plan and a wide range of services to help provide care for your loved one.

The staff members are brilliant, very responsive and friendly, however there has been a lot of turnovers on every level. Our loved one feel the community is very clean, well kept and taken care of. The food is being delivered to their rooms now since the dining room is closed so sometimes the food is cold, and there pretty much have been no activities since they moved in. They did just have their 60th wedding anniversary so the staff went out of their way to get balloons, wine and flowers.

Our experience with memory care was awful. Communication was awful between the staff and the family, When you called you could not get ahold of anybody and sometimes they didn't even call us back. I would not recommend this community to others.

We had a great experience at The Montera. We chose it because we were in a hurry to find a place, when we toured they were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating and made a great first impression on us. His room was great size. The director was really great to our family, very accommodating. I would absolutely recommend this facility.

DO NOT entrust your loved ones to this facility, especially if they need memory care. My mom spent a total of 2 1/2 months there, and in that short time fell numerous times, (laid on floor sometimes in her own waste), went from ambulatory to wheelchair-bound, without so much as a call to any family members to inform us. This happened within a week!! When we would get to visit there were times when she had not been showered, was in her p.j.s and unkempt. Memory Care NO ONE EVER answers the phone. You leave a message, NO ONE calls back. All for the low price of $7,500/mo., and the "non-refundable" $2,500 move-in fee. So, for the 2 1/2 months she was there my mom spent $17,000 dollars. This place is nothing short of horrific. I wish I had read a few reviews or dug a little deeper before entrusting my loved one to this horrific situation. Their marketing manager sells you something that the Montera could never deliver.

Response from The Montera
March 20, 2023Thank you for recommending The Montera to others. We're pleased to provide an inviting community, full of engaging programming, wonderful cuisine, compassionate care, and high-quality service.
Virtual tour was good. Units are small and expensive. Would not consider this facility

My mother has been a resident of The Montera for a few months now and I can say that she has been receiving excellent care. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I needed to have mom checked on today and that was done within 5 minutes of my call. It is a comfort to know that she is in good hands at all times. The programs and activities are very comprehensive and enriching. From my experience they seem to add new and interesting activities every month, such as wine tasting. The management is very approachable and there is a high level of caring about the residents.

Current management has driven out MANY good employees. Residents are DISAPPOINTED that [name removed] was made ED. She treats employees very badly, has a long record of people leaving the company due to the treatment they received from her. Many good people work there, but are treated horribly by management.

This is the worst place to place your elderly family member!! I have a family member who has lived there for 9 years. Every time management/ownership changes we were told it was for the best and it just seemed it was for the worst. Med techs and RSA do the best they can and The Montera needs to decide weather their employees are Med techs or RSA. I have seen the employees Med techs one day then the next they are RSS!!! All this causes confusion to the residents. Management is the worst especially the GM Mercedes she is one NOT to be trusted. She has made promises on Monday and by Wednesday she swears she didn’t. Be careful with The Montera their are a lot better places in SD and you will get your monies worth!

Great staff, amazing people. Too many changes but they promoted a very genuine, compassionate lady. Old management sucked but luckily they now are owned by MBK. Lots of hope for this place.
