Most of the vegetables are hard and aren't cooked long enough for the residence to chew them. Most of them have false teeth or missing teeth, so soft veggies would probably be eaten more often if they were cooked a bit longer. More on the matter shy side. It would also be nice if the food could be spiced with powdered garlic, onion powder and pepper to add more flavor without causing blood pressure to rise, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They seem to try very hard, and they know most residents by name! The atrium area is very nice, and a lovely place to sit and relax after dinner with friends. It's a safe place, with someone at the front desk 24-7. When my mother calls me at night not feeling well, I can call in to notify them and they check on her immediately and get back to me about her. Also, if she doesn't go down for dinner they call and check on her or send someone to her apartment. Overall, I feel that The Lodge is a really great place for people to enjoy the rest of their lives.... Read more

They do a lot to engage their residents, and it's up to them as to what they want to do. The place is clean and inviting, with live trees in the eating area with little lights in them for ambiance. The fireplace is on year around to sit around and enjoy. The individual apartments are cleaned once a week and the laundry done. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. It's a nice environment at an affordable price for those that like the best but can't afford more. I hope that last statement makes sense. It's the nicest place for the amount one has to pay for the amenities offered.

I thought The Lodge was very nice. I liked that the rooms had balconies, and the rooms we saw had views of the lake. It was a very scenic location. The main factor in our decision was we chose a place that was closer to where we live and therefore more convenient.
When our father became very sick and even through his passing the staff were overwhelmingly supportive. They handled everything so wonderfully and when our mother became sick with covid they followed up with us on a regular basis and checked in on her constantly. We are able to eat the meals in our loved ones room which is great, but we do wish we were able to eat in the dining hall and be apart of the activities but we do know because of covid things are closed off.

Never knew what the one call now messages were for, it didn’t include the facility name in the message and it said to check my email and I am not getting the email. My mom said that some days the food is very good and other days it isn’t. The people are very nice, but my mom feels the are short staffed like many places these days, my mom stays to herself due to Covid. I wish they would try to get her out and involved in activities

Positive experience: nice grounds, amenities, 2 bedroom/2 bath cottages with small patio & washer/dryer hookup. Only disadvantage: there’s no covered parking available

We chose The Lodge Retirement Community because of the location, when we went to visit they were very nice and helpful. The facility itself was very cheery and bright. The room they were able to get here was very nice size. We had a great experience here, my mom passed here and the staff members truly could not have been better to us. I would absolutely recommend.

It's a good place and they take care of the residence. It is also very affordable, the apt size is nice, and the food is amazing with a great variety. I would recommend this community to others and have done so already.

We chose The Lodge because of the location, the value for the money was tremendous, and my mom really enjoyed the food. My mom is in the smallest room it is a studio but it is plenty of room for her. The meals are chef prepared and they get a variety of offerings every night. There are also other options you are able to order if it is not on the menu. The best part about the community would be the staff members, they are always very friendly and helpful.

I highly recommend the lodge. The staff is very personable, friendly and professional. My mom loves it there! Even during the pandemic, the staff has worked very hard to keep the residents busy with activities even while being socially distant. They truly care for the whole being- physical, emotional, spiritual and social.

This 5 star review is for the assisted living facility--not the skilled care facility. My husband's mother went into assisted living there about 4 years ago when she began to show signs of dementia (having trouble preparing meals) and mild balance problems (issues with stairs). She started in a larger room with a porch, and moved to a studio when her balance issued increased (and as we needed to be able to afford an increase in the services she required). Both spaces were well thought-out and comfortable. The facility, the grounds, and the dining room are well-kept (the gardens are lovely). The decor is a bit dated, but frankly, perfect for older adults (soft, cheery colors). And they decorate for each season, which made walking around feel festive. There were great on-site and off-site activities that mom enjoyed regularly. The food is surprisingly good and is served sit-down restaurant style. There's also an assisted dining room in the loft, which mom used as her health declined. But most of all, we are impressed with the nursing staff in the assisted living. 4 years later there are many of the same kind faces as when we arrived. They took such good care of mom and kept us well informed about her health and well-being. Later, we brought in additional nursing services from the outside, in order to keep mom from having to leave her 'home.' And finally, we also had hospice coming in. The Lodge staff did a great job as the liaison between the agencies, and we are very grateful for their help at such a difficult time for us all. We were so touched when one of her wonderful nurses attended mom's memorial service. These are very special people. I hope they are appreciated (and rewarded) by their employer--I know they are appreciated by us!

Response from The Lodge Retirement Community
May 24, 2023At the Lodge Retirement Community we do not deal with or bill insurance companies. Our facility is private pay for Assisted Living and Independent Living so I believe the reviewer has commented on the wrong community. Our DON has been here for 8 years (myself 19 years) and no one has ever complained about her in any manner.
Dad is liking be in The Lodge. He's participating how he wants and while that might not be getting involved he likes the fact that he doesn't have the worries and concerns that he had living alone.

This place is so outdated. The workers break hippa laws daily. They Tell everyone business even the director of nursing. They don't take care of their employees. Their nursing department is always understaffed. You will see new faces all the time. They even add their own reviews to the page to make you think its great lol... Yes if your trying to just get rid of your parents and dont genuinely care about them then this is the place for you!

Staff is wonderful here, but the medical director believes her religious views supersede patient's wishes. When dealing with a loved one at the end of a difficult road, that is an unbearable burden to be forced to carry. Why should someone think their religious views are more important than listening to a patient who has carefully evaluated their options and made their own choices? Before placing anyone there, be aware that this "doctor" will attempt to force you to do her will, not facilitate your choices and decisions.

Response from The Lodge Retirement Community
May 24, 2023The Lodge Retirement Community has never had a medical director as Assisted Living or Independent Living is not required to have one. I believe this reviewer has mistaken us for another community.
Everything is going well for my father here at this community. I'am satisfied with my father's move here. They are taking good care him and his needs. They have a pretty good staff, they are helpful and attentive. He is trying a few of the activities offered. They do a good job with the cleanliness of the community. It has been a good experience for us here. This is a community I would recommend.

A Place for Mom has scored The Lodge Retirement Community 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
