Good programs and supporting staff focused on residents quality of life. They try to meet the residents where they are in their dementia journey. Some turnover in senior staff and administration makes communication slow at times. However complete attention to family needs are addressed when meeting/phone calls occur.... Read more

I’m adding to a previous review. I forgot to mention that the activities are basically the same week after week. There is little to help keep seniors mentally stimulated. There is little to help with any manual manipulation activities. There are however plenty of ice cream socials. If you are looking for an assisted living community that doesn’t allow its residents to become bored, again look elsewhere!!

My mother has lived here for 18 months. Over the past 6 to 8 months things have changed dramatically. Staff is constantly changing and consistency of care is questionable. Management tries but is unable to follow through with what is promised. If we were looking again for assisted living for our mother we would definitely look elsewhere.

My mother-in-law recently moved here. She calls everyday saying she’s had the best day. She raves about the meals and the activities. The med distribution and Doctors Making Housecalls has reduced her stress. Her apartment is stunning.

Have my parents there for >1year and the services have been declining rapidly. Issue after issue. Misplaced meds. Or meds not given on time. Mandate increasing Level of Care needed for no good reason. Work to push folks over to the Haven as they conveniently asses that memory care is now needed. Someone outside of their business warned me prior to move in, but the folks seemed so honest and nice (fake) that I didn't heed the warning. Food is not good. From the director, to the head nurse, to the wait staff, and med techs, staff turnover is constant.. But, they always have a great excuse. If I can get back the community fee paid, I would find a new place for mom and dad. Check other reviews you can find online. Beware.

My loved one has been a resident for several years. Overall the Laurels is very nice. They redid the furniture in the living room this past year and it is not good. Obviously a designer from corporate did it to look good but it is not functional - way too big for almost all residents and doesn't take spills and other possible accidents into consideration with the fabric choices. They also only updated the main living room and dining room - not the resident rooms which REALLY NEED IT! They also hired a new general manager this past year. She [Removed] is awful. Cold as a fish, very unfriendly, autocratic and doesn't listen well. She and the new head of nursing, [Removed] (lots of recent turnover) are both uncaring and dictatorial - no partnership/discussion with them on issues - just declarations of decisions that were made without any input from family. They seem to be focused on moving residents to The Haven (memory care) so Five Star can make more $$ - makes one wonder if their compensation is based upon that. Food is very good and the caregivers - with the exception of a handful - are nice and very caring. My loved one has had some small items stolen from their room and the cleaning staff regularly opens up a kitchen drawer and eats from the candy in there - without invitation. This is an expensive private pay facility - they do a good job overall, but I expect more at this level - especially from the general manager and head of nursing. They are really bad. Numerous people have complained and Five Star turns a deaf ear. I am listing this review as anoyomous because I do not want repercussions on my parent. That's how much I don't trust [Removed].

First class and flawless. They have worked with us. It's never an easy thing, but they worked with us closely. We also got a somewhat of an upgrade on her room for the same cost as the regular. Everything has been good. The food is good. The facility is very clean. The management is outstanding. It has been an excellent experience at The Laurels at Highland Creek. Everyone has been very friendly. It's great.

We visited 5 assisted living facilities in the Charlotte/Concord area. After comparing all the things my parents wanted in their new home, The Laurels was the best choice. The staff, both administrative & healthcare, are attentive & very eager to help when needed. Thank you for taking great care of my parents!

They have been very accommodating to my dad, and very friendly to all of us. The food has been excellent as well. The only complaint that I would have is that the sheets are not changed as often as I feel they should be.

We visited 5 assisted living facilities in our area before choosing The Laurels of Highland Creek. My parents chose The Laurels & what a blessing it has been. This very difficult transition was made as easy as possible thanks in large part to the welcoming attitude at the facility. The administrative staff was very accommodating & willing to work with my parents during this really difficult transition time. The staff has been very friendly & attentive in every way too! When comparing in home health care vs. assisted living, The Laurels is a great value for all the amenities offered. More importantly, for us, the socialization of the other residents was just as important as the physical care aspect when picking a facility. It's a community where they look after, encourage & share with each other. I feel like my parents are blessed beyond measure to be there!

I really liked them a lot! They were a sister community with the one we chose. It's not in a very good part of town. They had a lot of amenities and they were clean and friendly.

Response from The Laurels and The Haven in Highland Creek
February 28, 2014Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and compliments! We realize that being in the heart of a large, upscale neighborhood does put us a little off of the beaten path for some. We are pleased to know that you found a great fit and location with one of our sister communities.
It was a very good place. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Our aunt was very reluctant to go but once she got there the made friends and was well taken care of. She just recently passed and they were very helpful; they sent flowers. I would definitely recommend them. We looked at a few places in the area and The Laurels seemed to be the best fit for us.

We chose The Laurels because the cleanliness of the community was just excellent and the staff was so easy to work with. With everything put into perspective just seemed like a sure bet. The community has lots of trees and a very nice courtyard to sit and relax. It is also very conveniently located. We are very pleased with our choice and would recommend to anyone.
